Cyclists in Wales are spoilt for

choice with on and off road trails

prefect for adventure cycling

holidays. The traffic-free routes

and gentle slopes of the back

roads take cyclists through

breathtaking landscapes and

coastal paths. The National

Cycle Network trail, runs along

the seaside shoreline (North

Wales Coastal Route 5) from

Colwyn Bay to Prestatyn, is

regarded as one of the best

cycle routes in the whole of the

UK for all abilities. The route is

traffic-free and well surfaced -

there are two short climbs at

Llanddulas.

This is an open, coastal route which

can be quite windy at times. If you

are going to cycle there and back it

is best to cycle into the wind at the

start while you are fresh and have

the wind help you on the return

journey.

If you wish to venture out and

explore on your bike, then try and

stick to the tracks marked as

bridleways on the Ordanance

Survey maps and cycling lanes.

Avoid footpaths that are not

designated cycle routes or you will

spend more time walking than riding,

due to the shear amount of foot

traffic. Out of season, October-

March has fewer tourists walking the

streets and you can find it easier to

ride around, and take in the

surroundings.

For mountain biking in Wales, Coed-

y-Brenin Forest Park, near Dolgellau

is a premier centre and boasts some

of the rockiest, technically advanced

mountain bike routes. They also

cater for families and riders of all

ability, and have one trail especially

for families to enjoy.

Coed y Brenin was the first forest to be developed for the sport of mountain biking

and to this day retains its reputation as the sports premier location. A range of

routes suitable for everyone from families and novices (Yr Afon) to rocky technical

trails for expert riders radiate out from our stunning state of the art eco visitor

centre. Wales is a great place for food and drink too, so rest assured when the

adventure cycling is over, you can rest up and be ready to go the next day.
