Strength
All Advantage Feeders can be used
for feeding deer.
All outer extremities are reinforced to
withstand the roughest treatment.
Advantage Feeders are stronger
because they are formed from
connected sheetmetal, flange jointed
instead of parts that are simply butted
up and welded.
Two year warranty
Advantage Feeders provides a two
year warranty on all purchases.
Fully galvanised
All parts are galvanised, not painted,
ensuring the product lasts longer.
Tube components can often sit in the
mud and muck and rust quickly – all
tube on our feeders is hot gal dipped
to ensure that’s not the case.
Lifting frame
All feeders can be moved fully loaded.
The NGF1800 and NGF3800 are
designed with Z shaped rails under
the trough to spread the load.
Accurate feeding and
consumption sticker
The Upper and Lower Adjusters have
a series of painted dimples on them –
allowing them to be set accurately.
The lower side panels have a table
to show the intake at each adjuster
setting.
The table should be considered a
guide only but is a good starting point
for setting the feeder.
Adjuster Guard
The Adjuster Guard is a part that
sits above the feed access area to
partition it into 100mm gaps. This
ensures that animals stand in the same
location whilst feeding – ensuring
other stock aren’t disturbed by being
pushed.
See page 16 for more information.
Volume stickers
Our volume stickers allow you to
quickly determine the ration being
consumed and make adjustments if
required.
Quality components
All fasteners on our adjusters are
stainless steel – ensuring a long,
functional life.
All rivets and Tek screws have high
quality coatings.
Sight glasses
Sight glasses are a simple and
effective feature that can save you
getting off, or out of your vehicle to
check the volume in the feeder – we
know you’ll appreciate that when it
rains.
Multipurpose
Advantage Feeders can be used to
feed deer, sheep and cattle.
The feeders have adjustable skids that
can be changed in height to suit any
animal type.
Retractable roof
Our roofs can be easily opened and
handily fastened on the same side.

MGF3800
Mobile Feeders give farmers the convenience of filling the feeders up at a silo and taking them out to the paddock.
The MGF3800 is constructed by adding a tandem-axle chassis system to the NGF3800.
The MGF1800 is constructed by adding a single-axle chassis system to the NGF1800.
Central wheel position
The centralised axle reduces the load
on the tow ball of the towing vehicle.
Other mobile feeders on the market
have the axle at the rear which can
place over 800kg of load on your
tow ball when most vehicles have
a maximum tow ball loading of just
300kg. This can cause the kind of
catastrophic failure which can lead to
accidents.
Our tyres are only 480mm high (195/55/
R13C) and have a load rating of 900kg
each. Most stock can easily reach over
the wheels but lambs of less than four
months must eat alongside the wheels.
Please note: Wheels can not be retro-fitted to NGF 3800 or 1800.

MGF1800 Advantage Feeders give farmers the control to limit the amount of supplement that stock consume. We do this through our revolutionary saliva-restriction, Advanced Adjustment System.
Whilst the Advantage Feeders Advanced Adjustment System can be set to feed unrestricted rations to stock, it can also limit the intake of deer to 150 grams/day.
Advantage Feeders can be used successfully to do the following tasks:
1) Ration feeding 2) Creep feeding; and 3) Ad-lib feeding
How do Advantage Feeders work?
Our Advanced Adjustment System requires stock to lick feed out of a groove between two adjusters. Changing the position of these adjusters changes the ration that stock can consume.
Our research has shown that when the lick system is in its most restricted setting, stock lick for 5-10 minutes between periods of grazing.
The licking period is limited because livestock use the saliva on their tongue to get the feed out of the groove. The saliva decreases with each lick until the animal can no longer access the feed.
Our tyres are only 480mm high (195/55/ R13C) and have a load rating of 900kg each.
Most stock can easily reach over the wheels but fawns of less than three months must eat alongside the wheels.
Suspension
Mobile Feeders have suspension to ensure the longevity of the products by providing smooth transportation at higher speeds.
The MGF3800 features load-sharing springs to spread a full load evenly over all four wheels.
Advantage Feeders have no maximum speed limit. Many others have a maximum of 25 km/h.
Telescopic stands
The Mobile Feeders feature a telescopic stand at each corner to prohibit movement when uncoupled.
Adjustable axle height
Our Mobile Feeders are manufactured to allow the axle(s) to be set at one of three different heights (approx. 300, 400 or 500mm), to suit different stock.

Trial outline and methodology
A trial currently underway, comparing
the profitability of a mob of 200
weaners supplemented with
Advantage Feeders against a control
mob of 200, trail-fed three times/week
and a mob of 200 with no supplement
is already showing stark differences
between methods.
The trial is specifically looking at
four areas:
1. Increasing the growth rates
of weaners
2. Increase the number of weaners
at marketable weight before the
chilled market closes
3. Reducing the amount of
supplement required
4. Reducing supplement delivery cost
All mobs are weighed regularly and
have equal freedom to graze.
The rumen
Bacteria and protozoa are the most
important microbes operating in the
rumen – billions are found there.
“...they digest about 70-80% of the
digestible dry matter in the rumen.
Different species of bacteria and
protozoa perform different functions.
Some digest starch and sugar while
others digest cellulose.
The numbers and proportions of
each type of microbe depend on
the animal’s diet. Maintaining a
healthy mixture of different microbes
is essential for keeping the rumen
functioning efficiently.
Dietary upsets, such as feeding
too much grain too quickly, can
cause rapid change in the microbial
population. This changes fermentation
patterns and interferes with fibre
digestion”.
Source: www.publish.csiro.au/?act=view_file&file_id=SA0501041.pdf
Consequently, the rumen operates
more cost effectively, converting
pasture, if it can receive frequent
and small doses of supplement
compared to large amounts only
2-3 times/week (such as that gorged
during trail feeding).
The feeders
Advantage Feeders offer a system that allows stock to access supplement regularly throughout the day while having control over the amount they consume.
Our feeders do this by limiting the amount of grain and/or pellets that stock consume by their saliva.
Our feeders aren’t a ‘silver bullet’ or a ‘set-and-forget’ system. It is essential that livestock are competent at accessing their supplement – but a modest initial investment in training stock to become competent at eating from our feeders delivers impressive results and pays off the feeders quickly.
Hinds train their fawns to eat from the feeder as soon as they are born. Initially the fawn will lick up any spilled feed that falls into the trough. By 3-4 weeks of age it will be able to reach the feed access area and feed itself.
Once some stock that are familiar with our feeders, they can train others by making up 5-10% of an untrained group to lead the way.
A trial currently underway, comparing supplement feeding methods, is showing a clear leader despite being only 30% complete
Advantage Feeders Deer No.2, 2015 5
The results
Supplement feed conversion is already less than a 3.7:1 ration in the feeder group!
These exceptional results are due to the rumen having a constant source of supplement, therefore efficient production system.
The table below shows interim details but can’t yet show the significantly higher number of feeder-fed deer that will reach target weight early and the consequent premium chilled market price. Expect a huge difference.
About the trial operators
Kris and Brian Russell run 2300 hinds, finish about 3000 weaner deer as well as running 2300 ewes and 100 cows.
They are a Focus Farm for 2015 so are doing a lot of performance measuring.
They are currently setting up Farm IQ to track individual animals.
Notes from the Russells
Kris and Brian have had eight falls of snow since April when it is common to have only one or two. Access to feeders has been quite fortunate in managing their stock this season.
It has been very wet – raining most days since mid April.
Brian thinks it’s great that he can still feed barley through the feeders, because there would be a huge loss with trail feeding under current conditions.
The feeders have also allowed him to feed later into autumn and winter when ground conditions don’t allow trail feeding.
In a normal season, Brian said he would have had higher growth rates in the trail feeding mob due to being about to feed more grain but this would come at a higher cost due to a lot more grain and labour being used.
They already want to run the trial again next year to see if the results will be even better than the exceptional results achieved so far.
