Music and Art Therapies:
Effects on the Emotional, Social and
Psychological Attributes
of the Elderly at Nursing
Home
RationaleThe proposal to conduct a study on the effects of music and art therapies to elderly in a nursing home is one of the recommendations in the ethnographic-phenomenological study on the journey of the three elderly women at ANAWIM .
Research localeANAWIM is a nursing home for the poor and abandoned elderly founded by Bo Sanchez.
Conceptual Framework Psychosocial theory (Erikson) disengagement theory exchange theory of aging activity theory Socioemotional Selectivity Theory
Ego integrity means coming to terms with life, and thereby coming to terms with the end of life.
VSDespair means being preoccupied with past experiences(failures, the bad decisions they made, and regret that they really don't have the time or energy to reverse them
disengagement theory
‘ego energy’ declines with age and as the ageing process develops, individuals become increasingly self-absorbed and less responsive to normative controls.
Exchange theory of aging defines that the aged has less power in relation to younger people because they possess fewer resources
activity theory states that the more active and involved older adults are, the more likely they will be satisfied with their lives
Socioemotional Selectivity Theory explains the tendency of older adults in becoming more selective of their social networks
