EDITORIAL
It is always a pleasure to share AGS updates with every edition of Colour News.
There has been an upbeat atmosphere in the industry with the new government in power. The new government has a positive approach towards the manufacturing sector and also believes that the major thrust on job creation will be mostly through this sector only. It is also promoting new ventures and supporting the companies who want to expand. There is also an open invitation to International companies to set up their manufacturing units in India.
The Textile Minister has also got support, and has announced setting up of up to 25 Textile Parks in India. This should give a much needed boost not only to the textile or automobile or paint manufacturing industry but also for the overall development. A positive sentiment is seen in the market since the new government has taken over.
The month of September 2014, was a landmark in AGS journey. The new logo for AGS Transact Technologies Ltd. was unveiled which is a composite of bidirectional arrows symbolising ability to deliver reliable and fast end-to-end payment solutions. The brand colour resonates energy, passion and commitment.

Discover the benefits of innovative techniques in bulk dyeing with Hang
Jie Yarn Dyeing Machines
In the last issue, we saw how the use
of laboratory dye stock solution
making and dispensing systems
provide accurate and recursive dyeing.
We had discussed how the dye
solution directly dispenses in dyepots,
thus eliminating human error and also
dependency on any lab individual. The
solution reduces time required for
recipe preparation and in turn
increases throughput of laboratory
working. In this issue, we shall
discuss yet another laboratory dyeing
machine which will provide Right-
First-Time for yarn dyeing in
production.
The Solution Hang Jie Yarn Dyeing Machine
It has always been a matter of great
concern to every colorist to have a
meaningful correlation between the
dye produced in the laboratory and in
bulk. Simulation of bulk dyeing
conditions in the laboratory has been a
major cause of varying results.
Conventional production machinery
manufacturers, supply mini cheese
dyeing machines together with
production machines. These mini
machines are just replica
of the big machines having similar
controlling parameters. These
machines certainly simulate
Taiwan based Hang Jie Xing Yie Co. Ltd., has filled this
technological gap by introducing their unique high
precision and state-of-the-art laboratory exhaust dyeing
machines. These dyeing machines are based on unique
and innovative technique called Magnetic Levitated Vortex
Laboratory Dyeing. It simulates bulk dyeing conditions in
laboratory thus ensuring integrity of laboratory dyeing,
which avoids any scaling and manual adjustment of
laboratory recipe. This certainly makes the Right-First-
Time dyeing in the plant, a reality.
The biggest advantage of this machine is that one can dye
5 gms to 200 gms of yarn, a sample dyeing in true sense.
At the same time if one needs 1.0 kg of dyed yarn sample,
one can also have such an option. Secondly, the yarn is
wound on a bobbin and not on a lose hank. Another very
important feature of the dyeing machine is that each
dyepot is an independent dyeing machine in itself that is
each can be programmed for different dye cycle with
independent heating system. in short, one can dye cotton,
polyester, wool, nylon etc. in the same time in different
dyepots. One doesnt need to have separate batches for
each fibre.
7
Hang Jie laboratory yarn dyeing machine does not involve
any pump for liquor circulation, but generates similar in-
out of dye liquor movement as being done in a production
machine by Magnetic Levitation. Absence of water pump
makes it maintenance-free with less service calls.
production conditions in the lab.
However, these are not only very
expensive (though the manufacturers
bundle with production machines), but
also require at least 1 kg of yarn for
trial sample dyeing. If a dyer has to
prepare multiple samples, the
wastages or left over cones increase
the problem for the dyers. Implying a
gap which solves the problem of
sample dyeing and also reduces
wastages.

Available basic modelsHJ 18CSLHJ 8100LHJ 8200L
Features of basic modelsHJ18CSL can dye samples weighing
5gm to 50 gms
HJ8100L is ideal for dyeing 100gms
HJ8200L can dye samples weighing 100-200 gms
The machines works with M: L - 1:5 and above at dyeing temperature conditions of 25° C to 150° C. The rate of heating can be maximum 5° C/minute and is controlled.
8
The Magnetic levitation helps in the circulation of liquor from inside-out and outside in. The duration of the circulation is controlled and pre-programmed. One of the main advantages of the machine is that the dyeing conditions in the each dye pot can be individually programmed separately through micro-processor control. This enables a user to carry out dyeing with different dye classes under different dyeing conditions and on different substrates in the same bath and at the same time.
The colour difference within dyeing of all dyepots is less than 0.5 dECIELAB. There are 100 dyeing programs available for each dyepot separately and for complete set as well which are programed in 30 steps.
Dosing of chemicals and auxiliaries is done by following methods:-
 Direct
Through a cup kept at the top of the
each dye pot
 Pressure dosing. Progressive dosing
also possible and conditions thereof
can be preset through controller
(Optional)
 Dosing Pump (Optional)
Cooling in HJ 18CSL / HJ 8100L /
HJ 8200L is done by water circulation
which has a cooling rate of 0-5° C/
minute.

COVER STORY
In addition to dyeing machines,
the other supplementary (or
complementary) machines help the
user to carry out from winding of yarn
on bobbin to cleaning or hydro-
extracting to drying of dyed bobbins
ready for making sample if required.
In fact all these machines are integral
part of The yarn dyeing system.
Winding Machine
High precision laboratory winding
machines which are microprocessor
controlled for adjusting Yarn Tension,
Speed of winding, Tension Angle,
Density, Traverse and Weight.
Through microprocessor controller it
is possible to have even winding
tension through the cheese. These
machines have 7 programs with
two/three steps each. It is suitable for
all types of substrates e.g. yarn
including Lycra, texturized yarn,
zippers, woven fabric etc. Yarn is
wound by weight and the weigh scale
is integral part of the machine.
Cleaning Machine
After dyeing, each cheese or bobbin
can be cleaned with the help
of mixture of high pressure Air and
9
Winding Machine
Cleaning Machine
Drying Machine
Laboratory Dyeing Machine
Water from Inside-out. The cleaning
process just takes a few minutes &
removes all superfluous dye particles.
It is also programmable. User can
the define the cycle time of air and
water flow.
Drying Machine
Drying of laboratory dyed samples is
carried out by circulation of hot air
inside out. The machine is equipped
with High pressure fan, long life
heater. The hot air at 90° C is used to
dry the dyed sample or user can select
the temperature suitable / required
based on the yarn being dried.
HJ yarn dyeing machines are semi-
automatic and are often compared
against fully automatic or robotic
machines. The major advantages of
these machines over the robotic
dyeing machines are:
Higher throughput as compared to
robotic system. In robotic systems,
the batch time is too large and one
cannot take more than 1½ to
2 batches in 24-hour shift. While in
HJ systems, one can take as many
as 4 batches in 24 hours.
No stoppage in work if any pot
malfunctions. In the robotic
systems, if any part of the machine
malfunctions, the entire operation
comes to a standstill and service is
not so easy. It requires highly skilled
and trained service engineers. In HJ
system, if one pot is not working, one
can carry out dyeing in the remaining
pots or if any machine is not
working, say drying or cleaning
machines, the work will not get
held up.
One can carry out mix-match yarn
dyed samples (50 gms) which is
enough for making a desk-loom
fabric or a woven piece using
sampling loom.
As the drying and cleaning are
carried out in separate machine,
there is no blocking of machine
time or any operation, while in
robotic machines everything is
carried out in the same pot and
hence it increases the batch time.
The only advantage of robotic
dyeing machines is once the batch
is defined, the operator or users
attention is not required. However
here, if either yarn package or dye
bottle is not in place, the machine
will keep searching it and does not
proceed. In case of semi-automatic
HJ machines, presence of operator
is required.
Concluding Remarks
Hang Jie yarn dye machine is perfect
to simulate the production conditions.
These are fast and controlled thereby
increasing the throughput of the
machines. With the ability to dye each
dyepot separately, the machine can
dye different fibre yarn samples of
different colours with a sample
quantity as small as 5 gms (net saving
of yarn, water, energy, dyes,
chemicals and pollution treatment).
The weighed yarn is dyed in a bobbin
form via a winding machine for
accurate weight and desired tension,
shape of bobbin and density of bobbin
which gives uniform dyeing and there
is no wastage.
The Hang Jie yarn dye machine by
simulating the production like
conditions using small quantity of dye,
helps save yarn, dye and chemicals.
Also, it helps in maximising the
returns by more batches in a 24hr
shift. The machine is truly a boon for
the textile industry by bridging the gap
for cost effective sample dyeing.
10
AGS so far has 60 satisfied customers
for Hang Jie dyeing machines and
most of them have already opted to
use more of Hang Jie machines.
Hang Jie dyeing machines have an
edge over conventional cheese
dyeing machines
One must dye at least 1 kg yarn
in conventional dyeing machine;
wastage of dyed yarn sample is
avoided in HJ machines. Larger
the sample more quantity of
water/chemical and dye is being
used which ultimately adds to the
load of pollution treatment.
The number of samples which can
be carried out in the conventional
machine is restricted. While in HJ
machines, one can dye batches of
5.0 gms to 200 gms in 4 18 dyepots
depending on the machine model.
In conventional 1 kg dyeing machine
unless the batch is finished user has
to wait to start another dyeing as
there is no option.
Due to uncontrolled tension in
winding, there is uneven dyeing
throughout the cheese and one can
observe colour difference in different
layers and one has to remove and
discard substantial quantity before
getting even & desired sample.

COMPANY PROFILE
With almost 100% market share in mixing
systems, FTIL and AGS leads the automotive
refinishing business in India
The machine is a rack with maximum 7 shelves. Each shelf accommodates ready paint cans, mostly in two sizes – one litre or 3.5/4.0 litres. The rack is available 3 different models depending on length, 1.0 meter, 1.5 meters or 2.2 meters. Depending on the size, each shelf can have a number of paint cans, for example one meter shelf can accommodate 8 cans or 1.5 meter can have 12 cans or 2.2 meter shelf will have 18 cans. The most critical feature of the system is the lid of the can which is usually customised depending on paint can size.
Fillon Technology India Ltd. is a joint venture of Fillon Technologies, France and AGS, the leader in the automotive refinishing business in India. Their main product range includes Mixing machines and IR Dryers which are used in Automotive Refinishing. The Automotive Refinishing business almost equals OE car paint business and most OE paint suppliers are into refinishing. The major players in the segment include AkzoNobel, BASF, PPG-Asian Paints, Kansai Nerolac, Esdee Paints etc. FTIL holds almost 100% market share of mixing systems. Like retail paint dispenser business, FTIL supplies mixing machines to the paint companies which in turn distributes to the body work shops or garages or even to dealers.
The lid is designed on the patented FT technology. The lid has an agitator which scraps the side of a can and does not allow paint to stick on side wall; secondly, it reaches right up to the bottom of the can, so prevents any settling of paint. The lid so fits on the can that there is practically no evaporation of paint, thus maintains its strength and other properties over a long time. FT claims that the evaporation is less than 3% after 30 days. There is special handle and opening for the lid. Once put on shelf, the agitation starts. One can easily remove the can from the shelf and put it back after use. There is a single motor which drives agitation for all cans.
The formulations are provided by the paint companies for car colours. There is a huge library of shades of car colours. Many car manufacturers built these libraries over a period of time. These also include formulations with ageing effect for a car colour. The shade is prepared gravimetrically. A weighing scale is also provided by FTIL. The body shop or a garage can make as small volume of paint as 100 gms. for touch up. This avoids wastage of expensive paint and also saves cost for a customer. FTIL & AGS enjoy almost 100% market share for mixing machines.
