The department’s research focuses on the application of technology to improve the operation of vehicles, and other engineering systems. There is also an increasing emphasis on the application of existing and emerging technologies to improving the lifestyle of a wide range of people – from the users of prosthetic limbs, and prosthetic running blades, to hospital patients and to those who live in assisted accommodation. Rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing are also key areas where novel techniques are researched to enable the deployment of such technologies in areas ranging from SME manufacturers to large scale composite materials manufacture.
