LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

The University’s School of Design,Engineering and Computing are working on arange of projects including ones to improvethe experiences of users of prosthetic limbs,to monitor corrosion in historic vehicles, andto provide remote monitoring of patients.

The department’s research focuses on theapplication of technology to improve theoperation of vehicles, and other engineeringsystems. There is also an increasing emphasison the application of existing and emergingtechnologies to improving the lifestyle of awide range of people – from the users ofprosthetic limbs, and prosthetic runningblades, to hospital patients and to those who

live in assisted accommodation. Rapidprototyping and additive manufacturing arealso key areas where novel techniques areresearched to enable the deployment of suchtechnologies in areas ranging from SMEmanufacturers to large scale compositematerials manufacture.
