Dr Carla Canniffe graduated from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland with an honour’s degree in 2004. She completed her Specialist Cardiology training in Ireland before going on to sub-specialise in Adult Congenital Heart Disease.

She spent time working in the largest adult congenital heart unit in Ireland, before gaining further expertise in international units such as The Royal Prince Alfred in Sydney. She completed a senior fellowship in the world’s largest congenital heart unit in St. Barts, London.

There she developed her skills in cardiac maternity medicine and aortopathy. On completion of her fellowship she was recruited as a consultant in Grown Up Congenital Heart Unit, St Barts Cardiac Centre, London.

She has published research articles in peer reviewed journals in the field of adult congenital heart disease, aortic coarctation and hypertension as well as co-authoring book chapters in this field.

She is a keen educator and has undertaken university tutor posts in three of her recent positions. She has also been an invited lecturer at National Speciality Training days in Ireland and the UK.

She returned to Ireland in 2019 to establish the country’s first private dedicated adult congenital heart centre.

She is committed to providing high quality, compassionate care to her patients.

Mr. Nölke graduated from The Royal College of surgeons in Ireland in 1993 with an honour’s degree. He completed higher surgical training in cardiothoracic surgery in Ireland in 2003 and subsequently worked as a Visiting Ass. Prof UCSF Children’s Hospital in San Francisco 2003-2005.

He was appointed as Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and the Mater Misericordia Hospital in 2005. He is currently the Head of Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and heart and lung transplantation at the Mater Misericordia University hospital and responsible for the (national) Irish Heart Valve Bank.

He is also the Director of the Extra-Corporeal Life Support Programme in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.

He is a keen educator and is the current Programme Director for Core Training in Cardiothoracic Training in the Republic of Ireland. He performs 300-350 surgical cases per year covering the spectrum of paediatric and adult congenital and acquired cardiothoracic surgical disease.

He actively participates in surgical audits published and validated within NICOR https://web.nicor.org.uk and SCTS http://bluebook.scts.org

Dr Damien Kenny graduated with an honors degree from University College Dublin and following internship, spent a year working in Mongolia and Vietnam as medical director of a small Irish charity. He trained in Congenital Cardiology in Bristol in the UK and spent two years researching his doctorate in pathophysiology of hypertension in coarctation of the aorta at the University of Bristol.

He completed his senior fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the Rush Center for Congenital and Structural Heart Disease in Chicago, USA and served there as Assistant Professor of Pediatric and Internal Medicine and Director of the Hybrid Catheterization Suite.

He is a Director of the PICS~AICS meeting, the largest international meeting dedicated solely to international

therapies for children and adults with congenital heart disease. He also previously chaired the Adult Congenital Heart Association Biannual Meeting in 2014. To date he has published 115 peer reviewed articles and co-authored 20 chapters in international textbooks. He has delivered more than 90 invited lectures internationally.His research interests include development tissue engineered valves for patients with congenital heart disease and he is currently collaborating with the University of Bristol and Rush University Medical Center in the US, on development of a tissue engineered valve mounted on a bioresorbable scaffold.

He was awarded an Associate Professorship through the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland in 2017.

Dr Lockhart is Consultant Cardiologist and regional lead for Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) in Northern Ireland working at the Royal Victoria Hospital within the Belfast Trust. Appointed as a consultant in 2012.

Graduated with honours from Queens University Belfast in 2002, and entered the specialty-training programme for adult cardiology in Northern Ireland in 2006.

Attained Doctor of medicine degree in 2008 and through 2010-2011 worked in the ACHD department in the Royal Brompton Hospital in London.

Through 2012, he worked with the Paediatric Cardiology dept. in the Royal Belfast Hospital for sick children.

Clinical interests include all aspects of ACHD care including inpatient and outpatient care, transition from paediatric cardiology, heart disease and pregnancy and interventional trans-oesophageal echocardiography.

Dr Bejal Pandya graduated from University College London medical school in 2001. She trained in adult congenital heart disease in London.

Bejal currently works at Barts Heart Centre, London, where she has subspecialty interests in aortopathy and pulmonary hypertension. She performs MRI augmented cardiac catheterisations to assess pulmonary vascular resistance and has published widely in all of these fields.

A keen educator, Bejal was elected the Royal Society of Medicine council member of Congenital Heart Disease and is regularly invited to national and international conferences to speak. Bejal also authors questions for the ESC EEGC examinations.

Kate is a Cardiologist based at Barts Heart Centre in London. She is part of their Adult Congenital heart Disease department and has subspecialty interest in echocardiography,maternal medicine and aortopathy.

Dr Emer Joyce is currently a Consultant Cardiologist specializing in Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation at the Mater University Hospital Dublin, having recently returned from a 5 year period in the US where she worked in 2 of the world’s most renowned hospitals, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Boston, and the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio where she was on faculty for over 3 years as a Consultant Cardiologist, subspeciality Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathies, Mechanical Circulatory Support devices and Cardiac Transplantation.

Her PhD was formally awarded in 2015. She has published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, including first author articles in Circulation Heart Failure, JACC Heart Failure and the European Journal of Heart Failure where she serves as an Editorial Board member, and has also published numerous review articles and written several book chapters focused on heart failure, cardiomyopathies and advanced heart disease.

She is passionate about driving forward heart failure care in Ireland and is particularly focused on advanced heart failure recognition, awareness, referral and best practice implementation throughout all populations including the adult congenital heart disease population.

Trained in adult cardiology in Wessex and then went to The Toronto centre for adult CHD in 2000. Completed adult cardiology and ACHD training in 2002. Appointed as a consultant in 2003 at the Heart Hospital, UCLH with subspecialty interests / skills in structural intervention and pacemaker / ICD implantation in the congenital patient population. Appointed clinical lead for service in 2005 and went on to develop the adult CHD and pregnancy service at UCLH.

In 2015 she co-ordinated and oversaw the move of the service to the Barts Heart centre, which in partnership with Great Ormond street hospital provides specialist care for adults and children with CHD across a network of hospitals, sub-serving a population of 6 million.

Over the years she developed and expanded the CHD pro-gram to include other sub-specialties such as pulmonary hypertension, aortopathy, arrhythmias, heart failure and an outreach program, which delivers outpatient care across the network.

Along with these service developments she was a serving member of the ESC GUCH nucleus (4 years) involved in writing ESC guidelines for CHD, pregnancy and CHD heart failure.

She continues to lead the service both strategically and clinically, overseeing care delivery for a cohort of over 12000 adult CHD patients. She also continues to provide pregnancy care to a high risk group of women with heart disease, with over 1800 pregnancies to date.
