Diet
During the summer and fall, they will eat grasses, berries, nuts, small animals, fish, and ground squirrels. Grizzlies must eat as much as 80 to 90 pound (36 to 40 kg) of food each day.

Habitat
The grizzle has lost much of its natural habitat in North America. People wanted the land for industry or agriculture. When people take over prime grizzly habitat, it drives bears higher into the mountains.

Average Body Size and Wight
Grizzlies are 6 to 8 feet (1.8 to 2.5 meters) long. Weigh 400 to 500 pound and adult female grizzlies weigh (130-200) and males weigh (180-360).

Family Life
A mother grizzly nurses her young cubs. Cubs gain weight rapidly during this time. Birth of the cubs occurs early in the year, when the mother is in her den. During this time they also learn how to avoid danger from other bears and hopefully humans. Cubs spend two years with their mother. Mother may see their cubs in later years but both will avoid each other.

Life cycle
First it’s a cub, than a young adult and then adult. The normal life span for brown bears is about 30 years. Females do not mate until they are five years old.

Interesting Facts
Sometimes grizzlies have three or even four cubs at a time. Each cub weighs between 10 ounces (280 grams) when born. When the cubs first come out of the mother’s womb their eyes are still closed and they are helpless.
