A New Morning“A Church for young

people, which will know how to speak to their heart and enkindle, comfort, and inspire enthusiasm in it with the joy of the Gospel and the strength of the Eucharist;

Page 22: Adolescent Catechesis

A New Morning“A Church which will

know how to invite and to welcome the person who seeks a purpose for which to commit his whole existence;

Page 23: Adolescent Catechesis

A New Morning“A Church which is not

afraid to require much, after having given much; which does not fear asking from young people the effort of a noble and authentic adventure, such as that of the following of the Gospel.”

Page 24: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningJesus called his first

disciples, as he calls you now.

Like the apostles, like the saints. . . , like all those who have allowed the Lord Jesus to choose them, nor should you (young people) be silent

Page 25: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningEach of you has a

special mission in life, and you are each called to be a disciple of Christ.

to become missionaries of this New Evangelization

Saints of the new millennium

Page 26: Adolescent Catechesis

A New Morningthe future of the world

and the Church belongs to the younger generation, to those who, born in this century, will reach maturity in the next, the first century of the new millennium

Page 27: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningI did not hesitate to ask

them to make a radical choice of faith and life and present them with a stupendous task: to become "morning watchmen" at the dawn of the new millennium.

Page 28: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningI did not hesitate to ask

them to make a radical choice of faith and life and present them with a stupendous task:

DISCIPLESHIP

Page 29: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningGo, therefore make

disciples of all the nations

Page 30: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningThe Christian faith is,

above all, conversion to Jesus Christ, full and sincere adherence to his person and the decision to walk in his footsteps.

Page 31: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningFaith is a personal

encounter with Jesus Christ making, of oneself, a disciple of him. This demands a permanent commitment to think like him, to judge like him and to live as he lived.

Page 32: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningIn this way the believer

unites himself to the community of disciples and appropriates the faith of the Church.

Grown Up

Frances: What's it feel like when you grow up?

Elsie: I don't know. I think perhaps it's different for everyone.

Frances: Do you want to grow up?

Elsie: Yes, I think so

Page 35: Adolescent Catechesis

Grown Up

Frances: Even if it means never seeing fairies again?

Elsie: It doesn't matter never seeing them again. We'll never forget like everyone else who grows up. Because we have the photographs. That's why they're so important. Whenever we start to forget or to pretend nothing ever happened, we can look at the photographs; and we'll remember.

Page 36: Adolescent Catechesis

Grown Up

Frances: I think I know how it is to be grown up.

Elsie: Yes?

Frances: It's when you feel how someone feels who isn't you.

Page 37: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningAdult faith formation, by which people consciously grow in the life of Christ through experience, reflection, prayer, and study, must be "the central task in [this] catechetical enterprise,“ becoming "the axis around which revolves the catechesis of childhood and adolescence as well as that of old age."

Page 38: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningWhat does mature adult faith look like in those who respond generously to God's call? The General Directory for Catechesis says that it is "a living, explicit, and fruitful confession of faith."

DISCIPLESHIP

Page 39: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningGoal 1: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community. Goal 2: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Page 40: Adolescent Catechesis

A New MorningGoal 1: To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today. Goal 2: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community. Goal 3: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Catechists have a special solidarity withy those whom they catechize and a particular sensitivity to their needs. They live in the same world as those they catechize, and share the demands of living in the world as do those they teach. (54, B, 8)

The process of conversion involves understanding who Christ is in order to change and follow him more closely. Conversion begins with an openness to the initial proclamation of the Gospel and a sincere desire to listen for its resonance within. (17, B)

Catechists should deepen the believer’s understanding of the mystery of Christ. A strengthening of faith, in turn, leads to a change of heart (conversion) in order to be more committed and follow Christ more closely. (28, B)
