How I workI like o fill my mind wih anyhing ha could spark an idea. Becoming acively

inspired by lisening o music, reading old books, checking ou mid-cenury

modern designers, or even flipping hrough comic books can inspire me o

hink differenly. I also like o experimen wih differen mediums and exures.

I migh use markers or a pen for one projec and painbrushes for anoher.

Oher projecs migh begin as a pencil skech.A he core of any of my work is he need o find an idea ha will grab he

audience emoionally and inellecually. hen I have o execue i in a way

ha is boh visually ineresing and very relevan o he sory my clien

wans o ell. When hese criical elemens come ogeher, I feel more

confiden ha he final design is boh well crafed and has impac.

Illustration isnt about just throwing downsomething creative on paper. I take a very

intentional approach to every project.

Geting saredI looked back a images of Boicelli s Birth of Venus and

hey had so much soul o hem; he hand-drawn images

have such a human feel. I waned o creae he samepassionae experience for he viewer using compuer-

generaed graphics.

Te skechFor my projec, I sared ou wih he concep of srong

line work, a limied color palee, and symmery. My

mind is drawn o symmery and balance.

I composed a rough composiion wih images of he

paining, and hen coninued o draw line work over he

image, jus covering one side.

I copied and flipped he line work along he way o see

how i looked.

Wih my line work complee,youll see on he following

pages how I creaed differen

layers o bring in color and

added paerns o reinforce

symmery. I also crafed

elemens o give i he hand-

done feel I experienced looking

Roughen line workOnce I had he basic exure and line variaion ha I waned,

I roughened my line work hroughou he drawing o give i

a more hand-drawn, human feel.

Here I oped o expand he line work and applied he Roughen

Filer, wih he compleed image on he boom righ.

Inegraing color and paternsUsing he new Paern Creaion feaure in Illusraor CS6,

I creaed a paern for my design.

And as a nex sep, I began o lay ou a second color

in a new layer.

I hen applied he new paern

in he colored layer and

finalized he second color.

In a new layer, I applied a hird color and se o muliply wih he second

color. Below he second and hird colors can be seen, minus he firs color.
