I never had the privilege of meeting Jon even though we were both from the same hometown. (Fort Dodge, Iowa). His Great Grandfather John was my Grandfathers brother. John’s second wife had an existing son Edward who John adopted and had his name changed to Bonnell. Edward would have been Jon Jr’s Grandfather.

My niece knew Jon Jr. in high school and said he was a great kid. He certainly did a great sacrifice for us and our country.

Garald F. ‘Gary’ Bunnell


AURORA – Garald F. “Gary” Bunnell, 61, of Sherwood Road, Aurora, died Friday, Aug 31, 2007, in Auburn Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bunnell was born in Cortland, the son of the late Francis H. and Charlotte Wooldridge Bunnell and has resided in Aurora for most of his life and prior to that lived in Auburn. He was a graduate of Auburn Central School, class of 1963. Mr. Bunnell served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict and was stationed on the USS Forestall. He was employed by the New York Telephone Company, now Verizon, for 28 years, retiring in 1998. He was an outdoorsman, who was an avid turkey hunter and fisherman. Mr. Bunnell was also a Boy Scout leader and formerly an EMT for Poplar Ridge Instant Aid. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Church, King Ferry, where he served as a religious education teacher. Mr. Bunnell enjoyed most of all, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Gary and his wife, Mary celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on Aug. 9. He is survived by his wife, Mary Borayi Bunnell, of Aurora; two sons, Eric F. Bunnell and his wife, Tina, of Aurora, and Tracy J. Bunnell, of Aurora; one brother, John E. Bunnell, of Auburn; three sisters, Cheryl L. Haff and her husband , Richard, Susan M. Lawton and her husband, William and Pamela M Byrne and her husband, Steven, all of Auburn; three grandchildren, Cassandra M. Bunnell, Allyson R. Bunnell and Megan I. Bunnell, all of Aurora; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews. ….Interment will be in St. Partick’s Cemetery, Aurora.

Alice C. Newgard-White A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, in Portland First United Methodist Church for Alice C. Newgard-White, who died Sept. 8 at 86. Alice C. Broyles was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Pretty Prairie, Kan. She moved to Portland in 1942, and was a directory assistance operator for Pacific Northwest Bell. In 1939, she married Kenneth Bunnell; he died in 1951. She married Daniel Newgard in 1952; he died in 1988. In 1991, she married Walter White; he died in 2005. Survivors include her sons, Loren Bunnell, William Bunnell and James Newgard; daughter, Barbara Fisher; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

[Ed. Note: I wasn’t able to find any of the Bunnells in the database, so I turned to Claude and he found 2 out of 3 in his data base. The third one will be added I’m sure. Kenneth is Kenneth William Bunnell, 360528 in the database. Son Loren is 001323 but will be moved under William and Alice and renumbered. William will be added. PAUL BONNELL – April 23, 1953-Oct. 28, 2007 SACRAMENTO – Former area resident Paul Bonnell, 54, known to local radio listeners as “Captain Kevin Cooke,” died Oct. 28, 2007, at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento. At Mr. Bonnell’s request, there will be no service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Ste. 115, Sacramento, CA 95815. Mr. Bonnell was born April 23, 1953, in Hollywood, Calif., to Donnell and Billye Kilcoyne Bonnell. Following his schooling, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a disc jockey around the world, including at KWHT in Walla Walla. He was also an actor and while living in this area he appeared in productions at The Little Theatre of Walla Walla. He married Annette Brower Miller on Oct. 13, 1993, in Walla Walla. Mr. Bonnell enjoyed traveling all over the United States and abroad. He also enjoyed fishing, classic movies. The Beatles and making others laugh.

He is survived by his wife, at the home; a son, Paul Bonnell II of Denver; a daughter, Sara Bonnell of Newark, Calif.; stepson, Jeff Miller of Denver; a brother John Bonnell of Van Nuys, Calif., his stepfather, Richard Hatfield of Vista, Calif.; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donnell Bonnell and Billye Hatfield.

[Claude writes: I have spent several hours trying to find the ancestry of Donnell. I suspect this is not the name he is being recorded for; but I will continue to try to solve the riddle. She had been told he might be in the Bonnell Cemetery on the outskirts of Waterford, Erie co., PA.

[Ed Note: Claude’s database reflects John as being buried in the Waterford Cem, Erie co, PA. I was unable to find him in on-line cemetery listings for either the Waterford or Bonnell (also known as Walker) cemeteries. I contacted a Beth Simmons who in an on-line article (http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie/famhist/CobblerTop.htm) titled “The children of Thomas and Eve Bonnell” mentioned John Bonnell. But her notes only showed that he was buried at Waterford. If someone is in the area, how about checking the cemetery and if you find his stone send us a photo.]

Do you know of anyone in your newsletter or any other Bonnell/Bunnell’s that are in the William Bonnell line that have joined the Sons of the American Revolution? was thinking about joining and if someone in our line has joined it makes it a little easier to prove qualification.

My great great grandparents were John W. Dean and Serena Tennell Dean. John W. Dean's parents are James Dean and Keziah Bunnell Dean according to some researchers. I would like help to factually place Keziah Bunnell in my family. I know she is buried in the Simpson Cemetery in Howard County, Indiana along with James Dean. The spelling on her marker is Kesiah. Some records show her as Keziah.

Note: I wrote and told him I’d put a note in the newsletter as the only Kesiah/Keziahs I know of (from Claude’s database) was one in CT who married Nathan Hawley in 1733, a couple of Keziah Bonnells in NJ, one b. 1710 and one b. about 1740. and a Kesiah B. Bonell, b. abt. 1860who m. 1886 in Dunn co., WI an unknown male.]

Submissions

Denali Porter, [email protected] or 2508 NE Regents Dr, Portland, OR 97212, sent me a small collection of material regarding Bunnells in KS and OR. The prize piece of data was a retyped copy of the will of William J. Bunnell, 006275 in Claude’s database, and a copy of the probate record. She believes his middle name is Jasper while the database shows it as Joseph. I will not copy the entire will/probate record but only those portions containing names, places and dates. When I provided this info to Claude he wrote me that some of the children listed below were


attached to the wrong William Bunnell in the database and that he was moving them over. Just goes to show there is always new information, or should I say old information, waiting to be found and shared.

“The first election held in Princeton Township was for state officers, the following voters discharging their duties at the house of Daniel Nyce, in section 2, on the 4th of August, 1845:… William Bunnell, …”

[Ed. Note: This last William Bunnell is 011121 in Claude’s database. From census data we know that he was born about 1792 in KY, which raises the question of him being part of the Bunnell/Bonnell Kentucky mystery. He married Christina _______. He is in White county, IN for the 1840 census. However, his only son, John B. Bunnell was born in OH in 1827 according to census and other data. Therefore, William moved from KY to OH prior to 1827 and then to IN prior to 1840. He is the grandfather of William J. Bunnell whose will we have on the preceding page.]

Research Findings

I couldn’t pass up this bargain on e-bay – I was the only bidder and the postage was much more than the price. The backside lists the prices for his various remedies: e.g. No. 1 Ext. of Vanilla, $1.25 for ½ pint.

I was trying to find the name of the first wife of John Leo Bonnell (350316). The 1930 census shows him in Ft. Dodge, IA, divorced and with one child, Duane, who is 8 years old, and so born about 1922. Claude’s data base also listed a daughter, LaVonne, born in the 1920s, and I assumed the source was “The Bonnells” by Fern E. Bonnell. She does not cite a source, but much of the later material (such as this would be) was based on conversations and correspondence with the individuals.

In the 1920 census, I don’t find John L. Bonnell, BUT I do find a John Bonnell living in Ft. Dodge, IA with his 15 yr. old wife, Evonne and mother-in-law, Mary Steiner. The database listed this John and Evonne as 014704. I suggested to Claude that they were the same John and he agreed, so they will be merged. I still don’t have an explanation for LaVonne not showing up in the 1930 census. John’s line is: William Bunnell1, Nathaniel Bonnell2, Nathaniel3, Nathaniel4, John5, Sylvanus6, James7, Sylvanus8, Elliot9, John10.

This next one should be in a section titled Serendipitous Events. A Jimmy Kerr, of Odessa, TX, contacted Steven Bonnell via e-mail saying that he had obtained a family Bible that contained family records regarding various Grants and Bonnells to include Daniel R. Bonell , William Bonell and Nancy W. Bonell among others. He had found Steve through the internet. Steve and I contacted Geoff Brown who is a descendent of Daniel Reynolds Bonnell, whom this Bible appeared to be describing. there was an article about Daniel Reynolds Bonnell in V. 18, # 4 (Nov 2004) of the newsletter. After Jimmy sent copies of various pages and then Geoff purchased the Bible and posted scans on his web page (http://localhistorycds.com/localhistorycds/bonnell_bible.htm) we ended up with some lengthy e-mail discussions between the four of us and Claude Bunnell. The three of us had also computer enhanced several of the pages or portions of them to aid in deciphering them.

1. Bible: Nancy W. Bonnell born April 2nd 1823, died 1844 ; Database: Nancy W. Bonnell, 028893, born 2 April 1823, died 24 Oct 1844.

2. Bible: Daniel R. Bonell born Dec 1st 1824; Database: This differs by 1 year, less a day, from obit cited in 004840, Daniel Reynolds Bonnell; but birth date is open to conjecture. 1880 census would have him born in 1830, the 1870 census would have him born abt. 1825. Therefore, Dec 1st 1824 is well within the range of possibilities for 004840

3. Bible: Sibbel M. Bonell born June 20th 1827; Database. This differs by 3 years the estimated birth date of 010180, Maria Bonnel; again the birth date is open to conjecture. The 1880 census gives her an estimated birth date of 1828.

1st Conclusion: The above appears to be one generation of the Bonell family, brother and sisters, and ties together 3 previously disconnected family members in the database. There is no clue in the bible as to where this family is from but census, marriage, and death/burial data contained in the database shows all three to have resided in Sullivan County, NY..

4. Bible: Records of Birth for the Grant Family: Seila Grant born Sep 23rd 1854 Alice Grant born Dec 13th 1856 ?iley Grant born March 18th 1859 Mary Grant born May ? 187? a. Database: does not list children of Maria (Bonnel) Grant, 010180. Federal Census does however. But the

parental names and/or initials in the census do not exactly match the database, nor the Bible. b. Sibble M. Bonell (Bible) = Maria Bonnel (database) Grant = Maria S. Grant (census). c. Unknown Grant (Bible) = M.D. Grant (database) = David W. Grant (census). d. The interchangeable use of first and middle names and initials was not (and is not) uncommon. So for Sibble

M. to become Maria S. does not require a large stretch of the imagination. e. According to the database, the Whig Press in NY reported the marriage of M. D. Grant and Maria Bonnell,

both residents of Liberty, Sullivan co., NY, on 25 may 1853. The 1850 census shows a Michael Grant, born in Ireland, but neither an M. D. nor David W. Grant in Sullivan County or CT, nor a Sibbel/Sybil/Maria Bonnell in NY or CT. However I did find for 1860, 70, and 80 a David W. and Maria S. Grant in Liberty, NY who were born within 2 years of the estimate in the database and who had children of the proper age based on M. D. and Maria’s wedding date.

f. According to the census data their children were: i. Celia, b. abt 1854

ii. Alice, b. abt 1857 iii. Riley, b. abt 1859 iv. Mary M., b. abt 1870

g. This matches the Bible data above. h. The 1880 census also provides the place of birth of each individual and their parents. For Both David W. and

Maria S. Grant, their fathers were born in CT and their mothers in NY.


2nd Conclusion: This is an additional generation to the Bonell brother and sisters above. Again, no clues in the Bible as to where the family resided, however the census data and marriage record clearly say Liberty, Sullivan County, NY.

5. Bible: Sibbel Bonnel departed this life June 27th in the 69th year of her age in the year 1817. [Birth yr. = abt 1748] ; Database: Sibyl (Thorpe) Bunnel, spouse of Joseph (300116) was born about 1750. Appears in 1810 Hartford co., CT census as widow. That is last entry for her so she’s apparently deceased by 1820. The two sources pretty well match.

3rd Conclusion: This Sibbel Bonnell is most likely Sibyl (Thorpe) Bunnel, spouse of Joseph (300116)

6. Bible: Sarah Mallory Bon--- Of Farmington in Connecticut Northington a. This appears to be Sarah Mallory Bonnell (310093) in the database, daughter of Sibyl and Joseph, above.

7. Bible: Wm. Bonell Book bought Dec 27 In the year of our Lord 1810; While this could be any William living at that time, the entry of Sarah’s name on the same page, the Farmington. Ct entry and the 1817 death date for Sibbel implies that this is William (310094) son of Joseph and Sibyl.

4th Conclusion: Sarah Mallory Bon-- and Wm. Bonell who each owned or shared the Bible, appear to be the children of Joseph (300116) and Sibyl Bunnel and further that Daniel and sisters from the first conclusion are some relation to, possibly grandchildren of, Sibyl (and Joseph).

8. Bible: William Bonell departed this life Feb. 19th in the 39th year of his age in the year 1828. [birth year = abt 1789]; This is the fly in the ointment. If the William in para. 7, above, is William (310094), then this must be a 3rd William because 310094 lived, according to census data, until at least 1860. Other Possible Williams include: a. William Bunnell (011119) in the 1830 census for Liberty, NY (Where Daniel R. lived) had children of an age

to explain Sibbel M. and Daniel R., but not Nancy W. Interestingly, 1830 is the only census that William 310094 is not found in CT. However since this one mentioned in the Bible died in 1828, he shouldn’t show up in the 1830 census.

b. William Bonnell (028894) is mentioned in the cemetery records for Catherine Bonnell buried in the Liberty, NY cemetery. However he was supposed to have been born in the 1820s, ruling out having children in the 1820s.

9. Bible: Catherine Bonell departed life Feb 7th in the 48th year of her age in the year 1848. [birth year = about 1800]; This is a second disconnect with the William 310094 family theory. There is no Catherine either by birth or marriage in the Joseph and Sibyl family who fit these criteria. But, in Liberty NY, on Feb 2nd 1848 Catherine Bonnell, wife of William Bonnell (028894) died. She was born 25 Oct 1830. So while the death date is within 5 days, the birth date is 30 years off. The husband William was born 182?

5th Conclusion: We do not have enough information to determine if there are two Williams or one mentioned in the Bible and cannot connect either William directly to Sibyl (Thorpe) Bonnell nor can we say for sure ( if there are two Williams cited in the Bible) which one if either, is the father of Nancy W., Daniel R., and Sibbel M. Bonell. But pure logic indicates that the William who died in 1828 is probably the father.

a. I believe that here is a direct relationship, though there may be a missing generation between them. b. The comments of Geoff Brown and his grandmother, May (sometimes Mary) Bonnell Cross, the daughter of

Daniel Reynolds Bonnell by his second wife, Sarah Ann Hotchkin Bonnell, should not be overlooked: Daniel R. was VERY guarded about his antecedents, Daniel Reynolds Bonnell was said to be very proud of his names and that they were all family names, and that in those days people moved to Sullivan County to escape something. The result is that ferreting out the truth will be even more challenging than the normal genealogical quest.

c. The William Bunnell in Liberty in 1830 census probably fits into the puzzle somehow. The same can be said for the William and Catherine Bonnell mentioned in the Liberty cemetery records.

Research Tips

Last issue I provided a link to a Google site that provided full text of some books. John Bonnell wrote that he was not having much success using the site. So I ran some tests, and responded with the following (Next time I’ll test it first):

a. The site also lists books that are for sale. b. Not all books are available for viewing-some are fully available, some partially and some only provide a place to buy the books. c. You can go to (http://books.google.com/intl/en/googlebooks/about.html) and in the second paragraph click on “Google Book Search” or save a step and go directly to: http://books.google.com/. On the page that comes up, in the search box at the top, type in a phrase or name, such as Tioga County, NY. That will give you a list of books. But notice that there are two links: Limited preview and Full View. If you click on Full View, you will have only the books that are available for full viewing, which in this case is quite a few of them. d. If you type in Bunnell, you’ll get 1931 hits; Bonnell gets you 3313; Burnell results in 3165 hits. That should keep you busy a while.

GEORGE A. BONNELL, who is known all over the state as an extensive grower of seed potatoes of the best varieties, is the owner of a well cultivated farm of one hundred and thirty-five acres near Waterloo, Seneca County, which is devoted almost entirely to growing this commodity. Northwestern New York produces the most vigorous seed potatoes, and during the World's Fair our subject sent thirty varieties to Chicago for the state of New York, and later placed on exhibition thirty more varieties under his own name, for which he received two gold medals. The "Empire State Express," "Fast Mail" and "Through Freight" are some of his late productions.

The ancestors of our subject came to America in company with William Penn, and were also Quakers. The grandfather, Henry Bonnell, was born and reared in the state of New Jersey, where he was also married. He came to New York in company with Richard Dell, another Quaker, who went to the land-office at Albany and purchased a farm for both of them. The land was cultivated and improved, and Mr. Bonnell there made his home for several years, when he removed with his family to Wayne County, settling upon property near Clyde. There his son Henry, Jr., the father of our subject, was reared to mature years, although his birth occurred on the estate where George A., of this history, now lives.

Henry Bonnell, Jr., was married to Miss Mary Dell in the old Quaker Church in the town of Waterloo, Seneca County, and soon thereafter purchased the land which our subject now owns, but which was formerly occupied by his father. The latter continued to live in Wayne County until his decease, which occurred July 28, 1829. His good wife, who was the mother of a large family of children, survived him many years, passing away in Wayne County, March 17, 1848.

The father of our subject was a great lover of poetry, and could repeat passages from memory by the hour. He was also quite a poet himself, and a short time before his decease wrote a very beautiful poem, entitled, "A Synopsis of Life." His wife was one of the best of women, faithful, loving, and generous to a fault. She was a true helpmate in all the departments of life, and in the devotion to and care of her children had no peer, pursuing the even tenor of her way with such rectitude that they looked upon her as one who could not make a mistake.

The subject of this sketch was born on the farm where he now resides, April 28, 1849. He was the youngest in the parental family of five children, and was given such an education as could be gained in the schools of the district. His father, who was one of the pioneers of Seneca County, early in life began growing potatoes on an extensive scale, and as soon as he was old enough George A. assisted him, thus becoming familiar with all the details of the business.

Mr. Bonnell was married, on Christmas Day, 1876, to Miss May E. Halsted, then a resident of Walworth, Wayne County, N. Y. She was born in Cayuga County, August 20, 1852, her parents being Reuben and Hannah (Halsted) Halsted [sic]. Her education was received in the academy in Cayuga County, and she remained with her parents until her marriage. By the union of our subject and his wife there was born one daughter, Adah N., her birth occurring January 9, 1887.

Our subject has always lived on the farm which he now owns. Besides his other interests, he has a fine poultry-yard on his farm, and makes a specialty of raising the Rose Comb Black Minorcas, the Sicilians, Buff Wyandottes, Buff Plymouth Rocks, White Rocks, Black Langshans and Golden Sebright Bantams. In his political views our subject is a strong Republican, and his motto is, "The United States Against the World.”

page 371-372 HENRY S. BONNELL, is well known to the residents of Seneca County, as he was born on the

farm where he now resides, four miles northwest of the village of Waterloo, October 14, 1831, His parents were Charles and Deanna (Dell) Bonnell, both of whom were born in Dover County, N. J.

The father of our subject was brought to this portion of the Empire State by his father, Henry Bonnell, when a lad of five years, in 1806. The grandfather located near where Henry S. is now living, and there resided for many years, eventually removing to Wayne County, this state. About this time Charles attained his twentieth year, and, being given his time, worked out by the month, receiving at first $9. This was raised to $10 the second year, and the third year also saw an increase of $I. He saved the greater part of his earnings, and a few years later went to Michigan and purchased a quarter-section of wild land. He soon disposed of this, however, and in partnership with his brother became the owner of one hundred and fifty acres of land in the town of Galen, Wayne County, this state. This they divided equally, and on his share the father erected a log house and barn. He then began the arduous task of cutting away the trees and placing the land under cultivation. The place he afterward sold to his brother, and the property is still in the hands of some of the Bonnell family.

The maternal grandparents of our subject had friends living in Canada, and on one occasion, when going to visit them, crossed over the land which our subject now owns. The grandmother was greatly pleased with the locality, and on their way back they stopped and purchased it. The following spring they moved upon this new farm, and at that time there were very few houses between them and the little village of Waterloo. Our subject's mother inherited a portion of this farm, and later Charles Bonnell purchased a large amount of the property, owning at one time about six hundred acres.

The parental family included five children, four of whom are now living. Rachel D. married Edmund Mitchell, and is now living in Ontario County. Elizabeth became the wife of William C. Dutton; the family makes their home in the town of Waterloo. Henry S., of this history, was the next-born. Phebe W. married Joseph Lynch, and on his death became the wife of Levi Lundy; they are now living in the town of Galen, Wayne County, N. Y. Mary T. died when young. The father of this family was a Whig in early life, and a strong anti-slavery man, and cast his first Presidential vote for John Q. Adams. After the organization of the Republican party he joined its ranks and was a loyal supporter of its candidates until his death, which occurred in 1879. In religious belief he was a Quaker.

The subject of this sketch was fairly well educated, and passed his boyhood days on the home farm. He was married, March 26, 1860, to Miss Elizabeth W. Thorn, who was born in Wayne County. Her parents were Isaac and Rebecca (Palmer) Thorn, well known and highly respected residents of that locality. To Mr. and Mrs. Bonnell there were born six children, of whom Clara died in infancy; Mary T. married George Pletts, and at her decease left two children; Ellen C. married Dillwyn Barton, and they make their home on the old homestead; Stella May died at the age of seventeen years; Dora E. became the wife of H. R. D. Mitchell, and is living in the town of Waterloo; and Charles C. is at home.

[Ed. Note: The ancestors of George A. and Henry S. Bonnell are of the same lineage that produced Benjamin Bunnell the Loyalist. One of the more interesting aspects of the first bio is the mention in the second paragraph that his ancestors came to America with William Penn (which would have been about 1682 the first time) and was a Quaker. That would have been the father of Benjamin Bonnel (290008) assuming this statement is factual. This would then be a different line from William the immigrant. Is there any relationship with Robert Bonnell, 002881, born in 1675 and who first shows up in Philadelphia, PA in 1699 and was a Quaker?

DNA & Genealogy From Steve Bonnell, our DNA Guru: 1. I have taken on-line public data from the British Isle Project and inserted our BNL_dna Member Data. We have some close matches which highlights (1) at the 12 marker level, most of the participants have nearly perfect matches showing the common British Isles heritage and (2) the importance of having as many markers tested as you feel you can comfortably afford. If you look at line 315 up to the 12 and even the 25 marker level you’d suspect the descendent of Thomas Hutchingame is a close relative of several of us. Go out to the 37 marker level however and a different picture emerges. There are over 1400 lines of data on the spreadsheet and may seem overwhelming, but it is sorted to provide the best view of the data. 3. I've had several e-mails with Bonnell FEMALES asking about DNA tests (mtDNA) for them... and I believe it is time to start including this area on our BNL_dna Project. The Y-Chromosome test effectively traces the MALE line only. If M0 took this test then it would trace through the left-outermost branch of the chart below. Just as the Y test

follows the father’s father’s father, etc line, the mtDNA test follows the mother’s mother’s mother etc line. If ALL the females are daughters from the same Italicized Line on the right (F0, F1, F3, F7, etc), then your mtDNA results will match. For instance, if F7 had second daughter, (call her F3a), and then F3a had a daughter (F1a), and F1a had a daughter (F0a), then F0 and F0a mtDNA are the same. Also see http://www.kerchner.com/mtdnachart.htm . The same limitation is for the yDNA for males, just substitute M, Father, and Son, and non-italicized line. If ALL the males are sons from the same non-italicized LINE on the left (M0, M1, M2, M4, etc), then their yDNA results will match.

Corrections

Claude wrote and pointed out some corrections/additional information for the last two issues:

On page 30 (May issue) under the Barren Co, Kentucky Marriage Records, Jeremiah Bunnell & Lucy James posted marriage bond 2/26/1836. They were married 3/3/1836

On page 32 (May issue), we had the obit for a Millie Bonnell and I stated that I could not find her husband, Ora A. Bonnell, in Claude’s database. He wrote that Millie Bonnell is 331999, Orson Bonnell's first wife whom he married in 1890. The second wife Lucy was married after Millie died in 1913 & before the 1920 Census.

On page 49 (August issue), on the bottom of the page, Roy Bunnell is 350720 Ray Bunnell.

On page 51 (August issue), I reported several references to John Bunnell of West Virginia. Claude says that this is 310033 John Bonnell. All references I copied did reflect the spelling as Bu.

Publications

William Austin Comments Dear Friends-

For almost 50 years I have worked on the compilation of the genealogy of the Bunnell/Bonnell family. I have had the pleasure of corresponding with over 600 of you and of meeting quite a few. It has been my principal hobby during that time.

Now, with the publication of the second edition of my book, it is time for me to turn to research on the many other families of my own and Pat's ancestry. In order to preserve the files representing all those years of work, I have obtained the agreement of the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston, MA, to place them in their Manuscripts Collection. 16 cartons of material were shipped by UPS to Boston. As time permits they will organize the files and make them available for further research.

At the same time we are moving from "Camelot," our home in Laceyville, PA, for the last 22 years. Our new address, effective 15 November, will be 2720 Hamilton Drive, Endwell, NY, 13760. We don't have a new telephone number or e-mail address yet. We lived in Endwell for 18 years before moving to Pennsylvania, so it feels a little bit like moving back home.

Post Script

During the past three months we’ve played a part in reuniting two family groups. Without the permission of the folks involved I won’t provide details, but one reunion was due to a lineage in the last issue. One of our members recognized the name as a cousin she hadn’t seen though she used to be close to the mother. In the other instance we received an e-mail from a lady looking for her Bunnell grandmother and dad. We were able to put them together. June 20, 1946

In the garden of my heart sweet memories, like rose petals dried and

stored away, emit a wistful fragrance when recalled to mind.

GOLDEN MEMORIES

In the garden of my heart Is a storehouse most dear

Filled with golden memories That crowd in year by year.

…… Its doors have always stood ajar

And much has passed inside, Worthless and rude were swept without

But gold does there abide. ……

‘Tis there that I rummage now and then To chase a memory prize

Who’s fragrance is that of the rose So precious for its size.

…… It’s then I harken back a while

To days long since gone by To times of sweet experiences

Which bring distance places nigh ……

In retrospect events go by To be viewed again once more

Then crowd each other pleasantly Back thru my storehouse door.

…… Thus I count up my treasured gold

And gloat as the pile does soar For with heaps of pleasant memories

I never can be poor! ……
