Ascension of the Lord, May 28, 2017
This past Tuesday we marked another blissful and remarkable event the 2017 School Spring Show. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to express my special recognition and thanks to: Mary Alvarado – the Principal; MEI: McNally Enterprises, Inc. – Lighting, Sound, Staging and Video; Kristine Linares – Music Director; Mike Marshall – Director; Annabelle Badua – Producer; Lorena Ramos – Program Editor; Sharon Henze & Maricela Vazquez – Class Costumes; Amana Charbel & Amelia Fiorentino – Cast Costumes; Irene Cruise & Camille Stoutenburg – Cover Art; 30 students of the 8th grade graduation class; and Soloists: Gina Saputo, Angelyn Pratana; Liam Harrison and Anabel Aghnatios. The obvious outcome of the Show has truly enhanced and renewed our spirit of the Lord’ servants to one another. May God bless our St. Cecilia School with many blessed, joyful and meaningful years of services. Please read the back cover page of the bulletin for our School upcoming events.
This weekend, let us remember our heroic American soldiers who have fallen for the sake of our coun-
try. May the Lord grant them eternal happiness in Heaven and may the Lord bestow abundantly graces upon in their spouses and children! The Church and School offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Memo-rial Day, and we have only 9:00 AM Mass.
The International Centennial Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima is now visiting St. Cecilia
this weekend from 4 PM Saturday, 5/27 to 9 PM Sunday, 5/28. Please read the front cover page of the bulletin for the schedule in detail. There is the welcoming procession to the Altar at 4 PM Saturday and the rosary pro-cession with Our Lady around the church parking lot beginning 7 PM Sunday and followed by the Spanish Mass. There is also an overnight Adoration with Jesus and Mary from 8 PM Saturday to 6 AM Sunday. We invite all to come and join us in honoring the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima.
Today’s readings describe the Ascension of the Lord Jesus into his heavenly glory after promising his
disciples his Holy Spirit as their source of heavenly power, and after commanding them to bear witness to him by their lives and preaching throughout the world. But the ascended Jesus is still with us through his indwell-ing Holy Spirit as he has promised, "I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.” It is in his Ascension that we see him entering fully into the life and glory of God. The prospect of sharing in that glory should be the driving force of our lives!
Let us be proclaimers and evangelizers. To be a Chr istian is to be a proclaimer and an evangeliz-
er. However, there is a difference between preaching and proclaiming. We preach with words, but we pro-claim with our lives. Let us ask the guidance of the Spirit of God to bear witness to Jesus by our transparent Christian lives. We have a teaching mission. Jesus taught us lessons of faith, hope, love, forgiveness, mercy and salvation by his life and preaching, and he gave us the mission to teach these to others. Hence, let us learn about Jesus and his teachings by our daily study of the Bible and the teachings of the Church, experience him in personal prayer, reception of the sacraments and works of charity, and convey to others, Jesus, whom we have experienced with the help of his Holy Spirit. The ascended Jesus is indeed our source of strength and en-couragement. We will be able to overcome doubts about our faith and baseless fears, anxieties and worries by meditating on Jesus’ Ascension and the lesson it teaches that we, too, are called to share his glory in heaven. Sincerely yours in Jesus the Risen Christ! Fr. Bao

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
St. Cecilia parish is a living sign of God’s saving Word. We have been called by God to foster a genuine, caring Catholic Christian community. God empowers us to be a visible sign of His Kingdom in the world.
YOU…..THE PARISH NEEDS YOU TO VOLUNTEER!
Fr. Bao and Fr. Wayne invite YOU to please take a moment to look at the page to your left to see all kinds of ministries and services we have here at St. Cecilia. Please pray and talk about it with your family and call these ministry leaders for more details. You may consider helping out only once a month, 12 times per year. There is not a lot of commitment required. Thank you so very much! God bless!
