President’s ReportHOW YA GOIN’ FRIENDS?
Our show in February was a great one with Craig Giles & Kinta plus Trevor Philbey we had a full house that day, it was the most I have seen at our club for a long time. We seem to be getting more people every month to our shows and they are joining the club as well which is great.
Moving to our March show where we had Mustang Country plus Paul Thomson and newcomer from the country Nathan Bruhn also Peter Tomlison. It was another great show.
We had a lot of people from the Fringe, who had bought their tickets through them as well and the best part was that they were so happy with our club they decided to join as well, it was a successful day all round.
Our next show will be our EASTER SHOW in APRIL anybody wishing to donate some gifts for Len WAKEFIELD MEMORIAL FUND RAFFLE it would be appreciated by our committee. Also I would like to thank all those helpers on setting up the hall and cleaning up afterwards and we have some new Ladies to help out in the kitchen thanks to RHONDA, LAUREL, DI, TARLEE, JUNE, CORALIE, BARBARA, BERNIE, JOY, JENNY AND EILEEN. MANY THANKS LADIES. Well DON’T FORGET TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP AND THANKS TO THE REST OF OUR COMMITTEE FOR EFFORT THEY PUT IN TOO.
Well there’s no more tell you so cheerio for now.
KEEP IT COUNTRY, YOUR PRESIDENT
Russell Byrne

LORRAINE’S ROUND-UP - February 2011We celebrated our 23rd year as a Club and we had a happy birthday with the Heartland Band. This band always amazes me with their great sound and friendly attitude. Thank you to the Band.
Our special guest for the day, Craig Giles definitely Mr. Entertainer, he relates to all ages of people and works the audience in his excellent way. People just love him. He
said he loves coming to our club. A new person for us to enjoy came along with Craig, her name is Kinta and is a
delightful young lady with a great voice. Her bracket of songs and her duo work with Craig was wonderful. Thank you to our special guests. Craig and Kinta are from NSW. Our other special artist was Trevor Philbey who presented a very enjoyable bracket of songs. It’s always good to show off our Adelaide talent like Trevor.
We had Ian List cut our birthday cake. Ian has been with our club from day one. He now has a CD, so look forward to having him as a special guest in August.
Thanks all for our February show, hope everyone had a good day.

Daylight Saving ends April 1Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour
(Sunday morning or Saturday night!)
Here we are March already, wow once again a great day with a band we had not had before. They did a wonderful job. They were Mustang Country very enjoyable, their female vocalist Honi Phillips had a nice strong voice, The harmonies with the boys were well worth listening to. Thanks to the band.Special guest for the day was Paul Thompson. What an amazing musician. He played the guitars with great speed and he can sing as well.Young Nathan Bruhn from Eudunda was also special to listen to. He thought he would only sing one song but the audience wanted more so he sang a song written by his mother and himself – well done Nathan. Then along came Peter Tomlinson, always great to hear. Thanks to the special guests.
Our March day was listed in the Fringe Guide and all the newspapers. We had twenty or more additional people come along. Many became members of the Club on the day! Thanks to the Port Adelaide Council for assisting in having our club day listed as part of the Fringe. One of our members, Marlene Crouch made the Weekend in the Advertiser Feb 25 in a photo and story. She enjoys herself dancing around the dance floor, she is quite a character! In February we lost our dear member, Maxine Burman. Many of the committee and members attended her funeral. We’ll all miss your lovely smile Maxine, sympathy to the family.Bye for nowLorraine

May Show - The Hoffmans Heather and David have been performing country music since the early years of their lives
Having met in 1982, Heather joined David’s band Top Country and the two married soon after.
Spending 12 years on Queensland’s Gold Coast playing professionally in the club circuits they have now come back to their first love Country Music.
Heather is a well-seasoned performer. She started to sing at 7 years of age at local talent quests, schools and clubs.
Heather won a scholarship to study classically at the Melba Conservatorium and finished with honours at AMEB levels.
Heather has worked in bands since the early 80’s but she is now very happy to sing with husband, David doing what they do best.
David has performed mainly as a backing band member since the tender age of 13. The best know ‘star’ he has toured with was Normie Rowe where he toured for 2 years around Australia in the late 70’s at the young age of 17.
David has also played for many well-known acts at festivals and concerts such as Lee Conway, The Hawking Bros and Frankie Davidson.
Together they will tell you that there is nothing better than working with each other. They have such diverse backgrounds in music but with their captivate harmonies, along with their crystal clear voices all their performances are described as being exhilarating, humorous, emotive and passionate.
Their first CD ‘Country at Heart’ released in 2007 and their second CD ‘24 Hours from Home’ released in Aug 2007 with the third CD ‘Moreton Bay St’ these 2 albums are now
available as a compilation album.
Released June 2008 and a new Gospel cd ‘Oh Happy Day’ released June 2009 and the latest two CDs ‘Neon Moon’ and ‘Green Door’ released at the start of 2010 and now in September 2010 released ‘Six days On The Road’
The Highlights in recent years has been The Homebush Festival where we supported names like Adam Brand, Melinda Sneider, Adam Harvey, Paul Costa and Sara Storer.
The Hoffmans also have another side to their music, having played in the Queensland Club and Corporate circuit for 12 years.
Venues such as Gympie RSL, TinCanBay Golf Club, Tenterfield Bowls Club, Search and Rescue Club Surfers Paradise just to name a few.
The Duo perform many covers from Bill Haley, Elvis Presley through to Jimmy Barnes, Tina Turner and Queen, mainstream 50’s to mid 90’s as well as country showing a very diverse range of music.
Letter from Chrisine SherrahChristine recently sent a letter to the Club saying hello. She apologized for not attending for a while but hopes to come again soon.
She is getting back into doing the odd gig for Nursing Homes, Ian Sander is helping with these gigs.
She said she appreciated the newsletters and thoughts of our members.
She will keep singing as do all the family from little Brook to her!
She said hi to all club members and sent her love!
Thanks for the letter Christine!

We received a letter from the South Australia Country Music Festival & Awards (Riverland Country Music Club Inc.) thanking us for our contribution to the SA Tamworth Showcase held in Tamworth in January this year. ($100). Most of the other clubs also contributed the same amount.
Attached to the letter was a report on the Showcase.
In part
“SA artists and Bands who appeared on the SA Showcase for no cost were Murray Mac, Amber Poulton and Band, Melody Feder, Taylor Pfeiffer, Jason Gwiazda, Georgette Berry, Breanna Lee Kinlough, Ryan and Tanya Cornish, Nathaniel O’Brien and Kiera Smith. The backing band members were Simon Wegener, Shaun Wegener, Anthony Stewart and Emily Smith.”
Len Wakefield Memorial FundSubject to certain conditions, the purpose of the fund is to assist younger talent with proven ability: a) in entering talent quests throughout Sth. Aust., Mildura and Tamworth, b) by payment or part payment of professional tuition, and c) towards the cost of a musical instrument. The fund is administered by the ACMC committee with
expenditure limited to the interest from capital invested, with all payments made to the appropriate body and NOT to the awardee. Annually an awardee is chosen at an event deemed suitable by the Full Committee by a judging panel consisting of three suitably qualified ACMC committee members. Contributions to the fund, which may be made to the club treasurer at any time will be acknowledged in the club newsletter.
Thanks Pam Fisk and Raelz for proof reading Country Call and to Russell and Rhonda who
helped in folding, taping and posting it.
Thanks also to all the contributors to this issue.

For many many years the ACMC committee meetings have been held at Lorraine Wakefield’s

He has been around, born in NSW, lived in Moonta, been in the army for 15years, worked as a shearer, truck driver and farrier and competed on the Australian Rodeo cirucit.
He has a video clip, released a single and was a finalist in the Australian Songwriters Association song writing competition in 2007. He is working on more songs and a music festival for the outback!
Hopefully we will see him at the club soon.
