Dear Reverend Fathers, Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
After the impact from Hurricane Katrina a few years ago, it is hard to comprehend that yet
another hurricane has caused major destructions in our Metropolis. But, as you did
through your kindness after Katrina, I strongly believe you will step up once again and
offer your assistance and support to any of our Orthodox faithful and our affected parishes
in any way you can.
We know that our brothers and sisters in Florida and other states within our Metropolis
have suffered greatly in the last few days and we pray that all affected by Hurricane Har-
vey and Hurricane Irma recover as fast as possible. It is our privilege to be able to offer
some form of help to combat the misfortunes that have befallen them. We hope that this
assistance will enable them to begin the process of restoration and healing from the trau-
ma of this natural disaster. With God’s help we can find the strength, understanding and
resources to assist our suffering parishioners; not only in the beginning with needed mate-
rial resources, but also in the months to come, spiritually and emotionally.
In the weeks to come, a number of individual families in our Metropolis will certainly be
in need of financial assistance to help cover their losses and rebuild their lives. His Emi-
nence Metropolitan Alexios appointed me as Chairman of the Metropolis of Atlanta Relief
Committee many years ago to help assist these individuals in any way that we can. I will
do my best to facilitate the relief efforts in a timely and efficient manner. Together, we
will do our best to serve the needs of our Orthodox faithful.
If you would like to contribute to this cause, please make your check payable to the Me-
tropolis of Atlanta earmarked for Hurricane Irma Relief. Please mail your check to:
Dee Nicolaou, Emergency Relief Chair
27242 Breakers Drive
Wesley Chapel, FL 33544
If you know of any families or churches needing assistance please refer them to me. Addi-
tionally, if you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. You may reach me
by e-mail at [email protected], at home 813-991-9026, or at my cell 813-294-0346.
Your Sister in Christ,

Church Fathers Speak
When you pray, endeavor to pray more for others than for yourself
alone, and during prayer represent vividly to yourself all men as forming
one body with yourself, and each separately as a member of the Body of
Christ and your own member, for we are members one of another.
— St. John of Kronstadt
Prayer List

Thank You Ladies for taking time out of your busy schedules to help us kick off the baking prep-
arations with so many loving hands of labor. What a wonderful turnout. One month down and only
1 ½ months left before we complete our 60th Bake Sale Event. The flyers and pre-order forms are
done and ready to be distributed to your friends, co-workers, and neighbors. A copy can be down-
loaded at WSGOC.org or feel free to pick some up at our next baking day.
I’d also like to thank you for attending our General Meeting and for playing the little game I like to
call “Speed Friending.” It was a lot of fun and I look forward to the next little game we play to
help us grow our friendships.
Our next General Meeting is at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, October 11th. I encourage you to grab another
member and come join us as Mrs. Samaras demonstrates how to make Prosforo in less than 30
minutes. And because we all have lives outside of Philoptochos, I value the time contributed to
attend our meetings and promise to keep them to an hour or less.

Greek School is off to a great start. Students were excited to get back into their clas-ses. This month we will be celebrating OXI Day on October 29th with a brief perfor-mance in the sanctuary at the conclusion of the divine liturgy followed by Coffee Hour hosted by the Greek School. Please be on the lookout for the Sign-up Genius in your e-
mail for items needed for the coffee hour. Also students are required to wear their Greek School Logo shirts and Navy blue pants (boys) or skirts (girls) for the performance. If you do not already have your shirt please see me. We are looking forward to another great year.

Sunday School News from the Annunciation
Sermonette Theme: “Words of Life and Faith”
Sunday School is officially underway! We have had a wonderful start to our 2017-
2018 year. It seems like our teachers and students have really started to enjoy the first
weeks of class. We would like to thank our teachers who have offered their time and tal-
ents to help educate our children. They were eager to get into their classrooms and to get
to know the kids. Our instructors are following this year's theme, which is "Words of Life
& Faith."
Schedule for Liturgy and Sunday School:
10:00 am Liturgy Begins
11:00 am Youth proceeds to classes after Holy Communion
11:45 am Dismissal of Sunday school
Parents with students kindergarten age or younger are asked to proceed to the
classrooms for student pick up immediately following the sermon (but no earlier
than 11:45 am).
Please remember that in order to participate in youth activities outside of Sunday
School (GOYA, Greek dance, etc.), a child must attend more than 55% of his or her clas-
ses. Attendance will be taken and must be consistent throughout the school year. Divine
Liturgy in another town can be counted towards attendance if the appropriate forms are
completed. If you have further questions about this, please contact the Sunday School Di-
rectors or any member of the clergy.
We also wanted to remind you that our food drive has begun! Please send non-
perishable food items every Sunday to help your child's class fill their boxes. The boxes
will be given to the Food Bank to provide emergency assistance to families in need.
In Christ's Service,
Fr. Demetri, Fr. Costa Sunday School Coordinators:
