WHAT IS OUR GENRE? The genre we decided to use for our film

trailer is drama, with a sub-genre of crime. A drama film is a film genre that depends mostly on in-depth development of realistic characters dealing with emotional themes. Its engaging narrative offers a space for debates about policing, criminality, gender, race and social and cultural values. In the case of our film, Jerome turns to drug selling and other criminal activities after a number of sudden unfortunate events , which could put him in conflict with himself, others, or even society.

WHAT ARE KEY ELEMENTS OF OUR GENRE?

The following are key elements of the genre all of which can be seen as contributing to audience pleasures of watching crime dramas. These are:

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A CRIME DRAMA? HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO OUR FILM TRAILER?

The purpose of a dramatic story line is to move the audience emotionally due to the events that occur within the film/programme. This can be explored in many ways, e.g. due to an enigma or twist to the protagonist. As well as this, a main reason why Crime Dramas are so popular is due to the fact that the audience can really relate to the characters within the film/programme.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A CRIME DRAMA? HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO OUR FILM TRAILER? Another thing that Crime Dramas do is

create power struggles between different factions/divisions within the film/programme. These can be different characteristics of villainy, government and the police, father/son relationships, etc. Our film trailer on the other hand is more about the unfair struggles of life; obstacles in the way people, and what method Jerome uses to get around this. In our case, he uses criminal activity and drug selling to escape to a wealth life.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A CRIME DRAMA? HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO OUR FILM TRAILER? This applies to the plot of our film trailer

as Jerome Blackwood experiences a number of unfortunate events in life that result in him having to go back to criminal activities, including a jewellery theft job, drug selling, etc. The main story behind our plot is that Jerome had worked hard for what he had, and then suddenly due to things out of his control, he lost it all. This has an impact on the audience as they feel sorry for him as his emotions are expressed.
