Cryogenics

Our Fine Chemistry Services (FCS) division recently added new equipment at the Orangeburg,

South Carolina, facility to meet growing customer demand for specialized reactions involving

extreme low temperatures. The equipment allows us to run cryogenic reactions to temperatures

as low as -90° C at a 2,700-gallon scale, and has already been used to carry out a synthetic step for

a drug intermediate at the new operational limit.

Targeted investments such as this large-scale cGMP cryogenic reaction system position us well

to develop and scale-up reactions to make APIs and late-stage pharmaceutical intermediates.

Allowing our experts to better serve diverse customer needs simultaneously helps ensure the

success of all their projects.

Specialty Polymerization

FCS recently invested in facilities to serve Albemarle’s cGMP and specialized non-cGMP polymer

markets. Within the last year, we have:

• Added drying capacity and small-scale (kilo lab) capabilities at one facility for cGMP

biomedical and pharmaceutical polymer applications; and

• Upgraded custom manufacturing capabilities and expertise at other facilities to produce new

and unique polymers for electronics, coatings, specialized polyolefin and other applications.

Albemarle has developed, manufactured and improved polymer catalysts and catalyst systems

on custom, confidential and commercial bases for more than 40 years. With flexible and scalable

custom manufacturing assets at several U.S. plants, we have the expertise and facilities to meet

a wide range of polymer manufacturing needs.
