3.1 SUB-GRADE PREPARATION

3.1 SUB-GRADE PREPARATION

.1 Remove existing quartzite tile stone pavers.

.2 Chip out any remaining tile mortar and chip min 20mm below each of the existing rebar for the top upper layer only.

.3 The perimeter of the patch area should be vertically saw cut approximately 10 mm to create a square shoulder against which the fresh concrete be placed without creating a featheredge.

.4 The patch area and the reinforcing steel should be abrasive blast cleaned (near white metal) to remove corrosion product and any tightly adhered but microfractured concrete that remains in the patch area from the chipping process. .5 The patch area should be saturated at least overnight prior to placing the concrete. Any ponding water in the patch area should be removed prior to applying the bonding agent with oil free compressed air. .6 The bonding agent must e mixed and placed in accordance with the manufacturer’s written instructions. The bonding agent shall be scrubbed into the concrete substrate immediately ahead of the concrete placement to avoid the potential for premature setting.

.7 Run-off is not permitted to enter the waterway. Use a wet shop vacuum as necessary.

d. Delete note:

.2 Concrete mixes and materials: to Section 03 30 00 - Cast-In-Place Concrete, with the following criteria specific to this section: .1 Hand-formed and hand-placed concrete:

.1Slump: 75mm (3”), +/- 20 mm (3/4”)

.3 Maximum aggregate size: 19mm (3/4”)

.4 Minimum cement content: 350 kg/m3

.2 Concrete mixes and materials: to Section 03 30 00 - Cast-In-Place Concrete, with the following criteria specific to this section: .1 Hand-formed and hand-placed concrete:

.1Slump: 75mm (3”), +/- 20 mm (3/4”)

.2 Air entrainment: 4% to 6%

.3 Maximum aggregate size: 10mm

.4 Minimum cement content: 350 kg/m3

.5 Minimum 28 day compressive strength: 35 MPa.

.6 Exposure Class: C-1

.7 Read Mix Concrete that meets CSA A23.1-14 standard

.8 Continuous wet (not moist) curing is required for bonded concrete toppings. 3.2 GRANULAR SUB-BASE AND CRUSHED GRANULAR BASE COURSE

.1 Place sub base and/or crushed granular base course material to design grades as shown on drawings.

.2 Place sub base and/or base course in maximum 150mm (6”) layers and compact to at least 95% Modified Proctor Density (MPD).

.3 Place granular base material to lines, widths, and depths as indicated on drawings.

.4 Obtain the Consultant’s approval of granular sub base, crushed granular base course, and reinforcing steel prior to placing concrete.

.5 All concrete work to be performed in accordance with Section 03 30 00 - Cast-in-Place Concrete.

Additional Information: • Tree Grate Specifications – details on the tree grate have been enclosed and

availability of this product has been confirmed (allow 8-10 week lead time for production once order/deposit has been received).

• Provide an alternative price to dispose of existing quartzite tile stone pavers being

removed for new stamped CIP concrete sections in addition to salvaging and transferring to GVHA’s operations yard as noted on L-101.

• For reference see attached document called “Inner causeway - Phase 1 –

mushroom lights (trial)” which documents the restoration process of the mushroom lights as specified on sheet L-302, DTL 1 & 2.

• The 2x5-20R Duplex Receptacle (Legrand XB814C520GY) Box 20A Circuit as

specified on drawing E101 is currently not available in Canada until later in 2018. Please allow for a cash allowance of $250 per unit as these will not be required until the later phases this project.

• Saw cuts as control joints in the CIP stamped concrete are not permitted.

• Fiber mesh should not be added to the stamped concrete mixture.

• For the sample submittals, the contractor is not required to purchase and hold the

materials for the next phase of the project. • For reference see below image of an example section of exposed rebar at existing

slab under existing quartzite tile stone pavers.

All fixings corroded and had to be cut out taking care around electrics.

Shop finished primed and coated, but wet will finish a duller hammered finish to match on causeway.
