Ethan Hawke’s SEYMOUR: AN INTRODUCTION Q&A with Ethan Hawke and Seymour Bernstein

In his first documentary, Oscar-nominated actor Ethan Hawke delivers a tender and intimate portrait of Seymour Bernstein, a little-known octogenarian musician who gave up an illustrious career as a performer to pursue his true calling as a piano instructor. A selection at last year’s New York Film Festival, this meditative celebration of art, passion, and diligent study centers on Bernstein’s illuminating reflections on everything from his work habits to his experience in the Korean War. Joel Potrykus’ Animal Trilogy: BUZZARD, APE, COYOTE Q&A with Joel Potrykus BAMcinématek presents a sneak preview of Buzzard, the concluding chapter in Michigan underground filmmaker Joel Potrykus’ acclaimed Animal Trilogy, in which slacker office grunt Marty Jackitansky (Potrykus regular Joshua Burge) sticks it to his corporate overlords by committing petty embezzlement and living large on the meager profits. A paranoid freak out drives him on the run, simmering with rage and armed with a Nintendo Power Glove retrofitted with knife blades. Potrykus’ latest, a “sustained burst of punk-rock ferocity” (Calum Marsh, The Village Voice), is paired with the two preceding films in the trilogy: Ape (2012), a scuzzy, surreal character study following a painfully unfunny stand-up comedian and pyromaniac played by Burge, and Coyote (2010), a French New Wave-inspired monster movie in which a junkie (Burge) shoots heroin by day and transforms into a werewolf by night. Buzzard is an Oscilloscope Pictures release. Coyote and Ape are Factory 25 releases.
