    Preface

    Preface

Purpose This scenario gives the procedure for replacing one or several BTS with one orseveral other BTS, using the same Abis ports of Alcatel BSC. BSC must be attechnical release level B7.2, and connected to Alcatel 1353-RA OMC-R in B7.2.

Audience This scenario is intended for:

    Field service technicians

    Specialists

    Project managers

    Foremen

Assumed Knowledge The reader must have a general knowledge of:

    For planning purpose:

    Network architecture and reshuffling principles

    Basic knowledge for scheduling.

    For realization purpose:

Alcatel operations and maintenance concepts for BSS

    Alcatel 1353-RA OMC-R

Equipment (BSC, BTS, ... ) hardware configurations

    Windows environment

    1 Overview

    1.1 Presentation

    This scenario is applicable if:

Abis characteristics are unchanged (no chain to ring change, no

terrestrial to via satellite change, ...).

The new BTSs will be placed on the same Abis link like the replaced ones.

The scenario covers also the case when the new BTSs have more TREs

and sectors than the replaced BTSs and is necessary to use a additional

free Abis link to place one or several new BTSs.

The new BTSs offer the same functional capabilities as the replaced BTSs

(i.e. signaling link multiplexing, full/dual rate, ciphering, antenna

    diversity, ... are unchanged).

If new BTSs have, in total, more or less sectors and TREs than the replaced

BTSs, then the impacted cells are changed during the scenario. For

instance, create new cell or change normal cell to shared cell. The methoddoesnt cover the changing of cell type. This action must be done after

replacing of BTSs using the appropriate method.

If Abis links are via satellite:

    BTS must be without GPRS,

BTS must not be G1 or G2 BTS,

Ater link must not be via satellite.

    1.1.1 CasesThe following cases apply:

C1: New antennas for the new BTSs (at least for the new sectors)

C2: Old antennas reused for new BTSs (at least for some sectors)

C3: Changed configuration (i.e. the new BTSs have, in total, more/less

    sectors/TREs than the replaced BTSs)

C4: Replaced BTS have downstream BTSs

C5: Replaced and/or new BTS have shared cell(s)

C5a: Replaced BTS have shared cell(s) (2 PRCs are needed forlogical reconfiguration)

C5b: New BTS have shared cell(s) (additional PRC is needed for

    reverse procedure)

C6: Not enough resources on same Abis for all new BTSs

    (i.e.synchronized BTSs).

Note: Several cases could be combined at the same time.

Replaced BTS could have upstream BTS too.

    1 Overview

    1.1.2 Options

    The following options apply :

O1: BTS software download is done locally into the new BTS, to minimizeoutage, in case of EVOLIUM BTS (A9100 BTS or A910 Micro BTS)

    1 Overview

    1.1.3 Restrictions

    The following restrictions apply:

All synchronized BTSs must be replaced at the same time, i.e. this method

does not cover case of replacing only part of synchronized BTS.

Cell type change or cell merging (900 & 1800) to multiband cell, is not

    allowed during this scenario.

If new BTS is G1 or G2 BTS, this scenario do not foreseen transmission

parameters update inside the BTS (as Qmux address and TS). Correct

values must be used during Abis and BTS creation from OMC-R.

    1 Overview

    1.2 Preparation

    1.2.1 Prerequisites

    The following prerequisites apply:

Enough resources on the BSS (BSC, Ater, MFS, ...) to support the new

    BTS and its cells.

The new BTSs are already installed, powered and commissioned in

B7.2 (enough place on BTS site for replaced BTSs + new BTSs). If new

antennas are not already connected on the new BTS, these have to be

foreseen with loads. If needed, clock synchronization cables are already

    installed and connected.

Replaced BTSs are co-localized (replaced and new BTSs on the same

    BTS site).

When the same Abis is not enough for all new BTSs, then the second Abis

link must be already installed, tested and connected (if is a new link).

    1.2.2 Site Specific Information

The following specific information is needed to complete the scenario:

At OMC-R, availability of a workstation, with servers "User Name" and

    password, allowing network configuration

Input: Customers reports about the final Abis, BTS and cells configuration

(free Abis port to be used if there are not enough resources on the same

Abis, Qmux parameters, BTS name, LAC / CI, power for cells, HO &

adjacency, GPRS parameters for new cells, ... )

If new BTSs are G1 or G2 BTS, this scenario do not foreseen transmission

parameters update inside the BTS (as Qmux address and TS). Correct

values must be known for Abis and BTS creation from OMC-R.

    1.2.3 External Tasks

The following external tasks are needed during the scenario:

For C3 case (if new or deleted cell), during PRC activation, MSC staff has

    to update MSC data base

At the end, replaced BTS dismounting and shift new BTS to final place

(could be done later by another team).
