Then along the same route that Abraham walked we drive to Judea visiting Hebron infused with the awesome sanctity of the Tomb of the Patriarchs. In Hebron we will see the graves of Ruth and Yishai and security permitting, we will visit an army base to meet some of the young men and woman defending Israel’s borders and bring them some treats too! Now we visit one of the most fascinating sites in the country; Herodian built by King Herod as a palace – fortress. The palace had halls, courtyards and opulent bathhouses. The recent discovery of Herod’s magnificent tomb shows the special attachment that the Judean “builder-king” had to this site. We will spend the day working alongside Archaeologists as we help excavate this important site. The kibbutz is his realization of making the desert bloom. Besides seeing the cabin where he lived we will also visit his gravesite, which overlooks Nachal Zin, which the Children of Israel passed through in their 40 years of wandering. Continuing south we arrive at the Timna valley where Solomon mined copper and where there is a replica of the Tabernacle God commanded the children of Israel to build.
