Cup SeasonThe Perrin Cup kicks off this for the start of the November month and it's an exciting time for teams in all divisions to showcase their teams.

For some teams, it's an opportunity to showcase their talent on a focused stage that is the Perrin Cup. For others, it will provide an early break in the season to reassess their team and to plan on tactics and personnel for the resumption of the league in the following week.

I personally love "one-off" cup competitions. For those familiar with America's NCAA tournament or NFL playoffs, you can understand the "win or go home" urgency of these games. It is a good compliment to the other competition in the league for a championship trophy or survival from relegation for those fighting at the foot of the table.

No doubt about it for this writer, the Perrin Cup along with the various division league races makes the ADASL one of the most exciting and compelling competitions around.

From very humble beginnings, Khrishna Cobb-Bomar and Images Frozen In Time Photography have become a vital cog in the existence of Atlanta Footballnet. Without her imagery, the web-pages and pages of this magazine would surely not live with brilliance.

Khrishna sat down with the us to talk about her history with photography and her interest in soccer and consequently her work with Atlanta Footballnet. Together with her love of the game and her desire to share this love, we bring you the story behind Images Frozen In Time and Atlanta Footballnet.

Khrishna, I'd like to thank you for sitting down with us to share your background with photography and the ADASL.

It is my pleasure to talk to you on these subjects.

First off, I guess I'd like you to talk a little about how you got started with photography in the first place.

Sure! My work with photography has roots with my work years ago as a model in Detroit Michigan. As a teenager, I started work as a model which involved me in a variety of modeling jobs. But very early on, I found the modeling agencies a bit limiting. That's when I got the idea to start my own modeling agency.

Your own agency? How old were you when you started that agency?

I was only 19 at the time.

The name of my company was International Trend Setters.

Wow, 19? That was very young to start your own company in a field like that isn't it?

Yes, but I had a lot of help from my mother and I felt the need to have a company to help aspiring models, like myself, get into the door.

You mentioned "a need". Can you elaborate?

Yes. One thing I noticed was that as a model starting out, it was very difficult to get started and part of the problem was the agencies of the time. They were not providing what was needed for the model to really get started effectively. So I took it upon myself to research the field I was working in to see if I could make a difference by starting my own company. That way,

I could tailor the way a model could start and help them to get more jobs. I guess you can say I wanted us as models to have access to the freedom and resources to get started in the business that simply was not available at the time.

So how did that go for you?

It went very well! My goal was not just to have a successful company but to open up avenues that simply were not around at the time. Even the name of my company was to illustrate that we were to have models of many different backgrounds and nationalities. The field of modeling up to that point was not very diverse, but our company helped to create opportunities for more people to do more types of modeling jobs.

Since we didn't have a lot of capital to get things going, we bartered a lot with photographers, fashion designers and vendors in the industry. It really was revolutionary and it really is a vital factor as I moved on from modeling after coming to Atlanta. In fact my early business played a major part in my interest in photography.

That's very interesting. How did the transition to photography come about?

Page 10: ADASL Perrin Cup Special

10

Out of of school, Khrishna became a successful fashion model in Michigan, USA. Now she spends her time on the other side of the camera.

Here, Khrishna proudly displays her signed jersey given to her by Martyn Lancaster at a game in Atlanta.

The transition to photography was probably slower than you would realize. It was not a direct path at all. After coming to Atlanta in 1995, I began work with a Insurance company and eventually became manager of the call center of that company. But I still had a creative yearning to express myself, and it was this yearning that translated to work on the other side of the camera as a photographer.

How did you get started on that "other side" of photography?

Really a bit by chance. One day, my friends and I went garage sale hunting. It was at one of these garage sales that I bought my first "real camera". A Nikon SLR film camera (N4004) for $25. The camera was in beautiful condition, believe it or not.

So just like that, you decided on photography as a new direction?

No not quite like that. This was not a "point and click" type of camera and I knew I needed to learn the craft before I could get anything out of it. I took courses at the Atlanta College of Art and Showcase Camera School to really get into technical aspects of the camera and the craft in general.

Getting "under the hood" of the camera (if you will) was what opened my eyes to this new world and my passion and love of photography started from there. This early experience turned me into a female version of "Peanut's" Linus with his blanket. I had to have my camera with me everywhere I went. but it was still just a craft for me.

OK, so let's jump ahead to your work with sports and in particular, amateur soccer. How did this evolve?

Well, I have to give you credit for opening the door to this soccer world to me. As most of your readers will know, you and I are married and you have infected me with your own passion for football. But your suggestion to try my hand at sports photography was a seed planted that has grown now over the years.

Yes, I do remember that you were reluctant at first. Can you elaborate on your hesitation to try sports photography?

Yeah. When I first started to get into photography, my love was of nature photography so I concentrated on that. When you got involved with promotions with the Atlanta Silverbacks professional soccer team for a fan group, that is when you started to talk to me about photographing sports.

At first, I just thought that I couldn't branch out into that type of photography as it takes a certain eye and approach to really do that well, but you kept prodding me to try so I did.

Page 11: ADASL Perrin Cup Special

11

To Khrishna, being able to catch action when it happens allows the viewer to relive a moment that otherwise would be lost forever. That is the essensce of the name of her company.

Prodding? Don't you mean, I gently and lovingly nudged you toward my sport?

Unmmm, yeah, sure. Whatever! (laughs)

Anyway, you turned out to be right about my ability to capture the moment in sports and I then realized that I should never limit myself with my photography. And this was a major influence for me going from a hobbyist to a professional in the field. I no longer allowed myself to think that "I can't" accomplish things.

So as I remember, the transition to the ADASL coverage with me was linked to this new philosophy?

Yes. When the Silverbacks folded, you looked for another avenue to involve yourself with the sport and that is what directed both of us to the ADASL. And like the model agency from my early years, we looked to help these young players to have a greater opportunity in their sport by helping to raise awareness of the league, the teams and the competitions through what we

do with the website and photography and this magazine. We are providing "images frozen in time" to help capture images of the sport and competition that would otherwise be lost forever.

That is the point isn't it?

Well, it is a joy to be involved in my passion that others can benefit from. I think we both realize that unless you capture the moment with words and/or photography, the recall of these event is lost. For an athlete, this would be a

Khrishna has the gift of being multi-dementi with her photography. She not only captures moments form sports, but she also can capture images of all kind from sports, to fashion, to nature, and much much more.

negative aspect to a sport with no real coverage. But the question might be how to provide this coverage in a way that is affordable. I think we have created this structure in a similar way that I did with my modeling agency years ago.

That is one thing that I learned when working with the Silverbacks. Many people spoke about how to promote the sport better, but few would actually do anything about it.

Yes and if people have a talent or craft that could be donated to the cause, then it's up to that person to use that skill to accomplish that task.

The officials of the ADASL have that same type of drive when they organized and started this soccer league. Now persons like you and I can help take what they started so wonderfully and help raise the level of awareness through the website reports, photography and pages of this magazine.

Anyone could help to add their own input to help us go even further. Like I said before, that was the drive in my modeling agency and it was a factor in my work with Atlanta Footballnet. It's funny that I have indirectly gotten involved with modeling again, but this time I am literally on the other side of the camera helping the model by my work through the lens. It's just one more aspect of the work that I am now fortunate enough to be doing and it is a joy to work with the photography and with the ADASL.

Well Khrishna, I want to thank you for sitting down to discuss your work with photography and Atlanta Footballnet.

It was my pleasure and I look to be working with Atlanta Footballnet into the future as the awareness grows in the league and it's competitions.

FEATURE GAME 1

Inkhead.comDasani

62

Kopman Field at Webber School

In our feature match of the week, a very "new-look" Inkhead.com team provided one of the biggest results from the weekend when they defeated Dasani 6-2 at Kopman field in Sandy Springs.

A "Man of the Match" performance was put in by Inkhead's Tyler Davis as he scored 4 goals in the commanding performance from Inkhead. Defender, Martyn Bell and Zack Bennett provided the other goals for Inkhead.

Inkhead never really got into high gear as they dominated possession and tempo against Dasani. Inkhead went up 3-1 by half.

The 2nd half saw more of the same as Inkhead added another 3 goals to 1 added from Dasani. Inkhead.com did have a goal disallowed after the assistant referee initially allowed a counter attack goal after a clear offside from the Inkhead.com player. This was not to be much of a set-back for Inkhead as they got their season started off in a rip-roaring fashion.

FEATURE GAME 2

Georgia Tech FCReal Pish

61

Southern Poly State University

Real Pish encountered an old problem that has appeared this season as it did last. A issue with personnel which required that Pish would play this entire game with only 10 men. Pish, being a quality side, played much of the match as if they had 12 men. But as time went on, fatigue did become a factor and Georgia Tech was able to run out comfortable winners when all was said and done.

From the Tech point of view, it was the perfect tonic to a set back from the previous week. Man of the match, Ciro Pelliccia scored 4 of Tech's goals while Karl Waasdorp and Rob

Nacke score the other 2 as Georgia Tech ran out 6-1 winners on the day.

One could feel for Real Pish in this match as they played well, but just ran out of steam late and the fresh legs of Tech substitues kept the pressure on Pish which produced the lopsided score. Pish simply did not have the stamina with 10men but they kept pushing forward to stem the tide but could not hold off the inevitable.

FEATURE GAME 3

Inkhead.comGeorgia Tech FC

52

Southern Poly State University

There's a brand new league rivalry that has an old history. Inkhead.com (formerly Creswell FC) which has a large history with UGA and Georgia Tech FC met for the first time in division 1 for our 3 feature game of the season. The game action did not disappoint the billing.

The first Georgia Derby of the season was on a perfect, sunny day with the backdrop of a military air show at nearby Dobbins Air Base. Southern Poly State University was the venue. Though not the history or venom of the nearby Bosnian derby, time will tell if this rivalry will

grow as fierce as between FC Ljiljan and B&H Inter.

Tyler Davis had another stellar day scoring goals against a spirited, but inexperienced Tech defence. Tech played well, but the fierce Red Dawg attack kept them on the back foot for much of the game. The final score ended at 5-2 but the game will be remembered for its action and flair from both sides. This will be a wonderful rivalry in the league.

FEATURE GAME 4

B&H InternationalMelchester Wings

Wade Walker

Two teams that will be looking for title success in the league and in the Perrin Cup are both of these teams. Both have the quality to make such goals and the meeting today was an illustration of why the ADASL is the best amateur league in the state.

B&H Inter started this game with 10 men, but played attacking football early on with Wings largely on the back foot. As the game went on, it evened out in a quick passing game played out largely in the middle of the park.

B&H Inter scored first, but Wings answered as they increased in strength as play

went on. Both teams went into the half tied 1-1. The second half was more of the same as

both teams sparred and B&H converting a penalty after a player was brought down in the box, but again later in the half, Wings equalized again.

The balance of the play was even and the 2-2 draw was a fair assessment of the day.
