ADAPTATION PART A – DESIGN
APPROACH. J U L I A M A S O N
DESIGN ASPECTSWhen looking at how I can present my infographic, I needed to look at my topic and take design
elements from that. As my subject is comic con, anything comic related is my starting point.
There are a lot of things that can be associated with Comic Con, and not just with Comics, there
are cartoons; films and TV shows that have nothing to do with the comic scene, there is anime
and manga as well. All these things have sprouted a fan base so large you really can’t miss it.
A lot of the designs can be broken down into a few key points:
- Bold lines.
- Bright colours.
- Ben-Day Dots.
- Speech Bubbles.
- Bold text.
- Panels of different shapes and sizes.
Roy Lichtenstein's work with pop art is another aspect of these designs that I have been looking at.
DESIGN BREAKDOWN
ROY LICHTENSTEIN
Pop art is a art
form made famous
by the works of
Roy Lichtenstein
and Andy Worhal. I
like this style and
want to take
elements of this
into my infographic.
COMIC STRIPS – MAVEL & DC
Comic books have been around
for years, the older the format
the yellower they are it seems.
But in terms of style they all have
different ways of portraying their
art. The panels are all different
sizes and shapes which help
translates the story clearly – if
you can read it properly.
I think I might try making a few
seconds of timeline using a comic
strip template as an design
preface for my infographic.
MANGA
Manga is a Japanese art form similar to
graphic and comic books that depict
Japanese style art that is read in reverse as
Japan read from right to left. These are a
little more dynamic in the way they are
laid out, with bold lines and text bubbles
that fit in nicely with the images.
This is another style I wish to give a go,
not nessacerily the art style of the images,
just the way they are layout in the grid.
