Adam and Eve Were the First to Come to Earth

What evidence helps us know that Adam and Eve were valiant spirits?

God prepared this earth as a home for His children. Adam and Eve were chosen to be the rst people

to live on the earth (see Moses !"#$#!%&'. heir part in our )ather*s plan was to brin+ mortalit, intothe world. he, were to be the rst parents. (-ee /0 12!3#43&.'

to help class members or famil, members ponder and discuss the meanin+ of what the, have read and

    appl, it in their lives.

Adam and Eve were amon+ our )ather*s noblest children. 8n the spirit world Adam was called Michael

the archan+el (see /0 %2!$9ude !:'. He was chosen b, our Heavenl, )ather to lead the ri+hteous

in the battle a+ainst -atan (see ;evelation %!24:'. Adam and Eve were foreordained to become our

rst parents. he and thou art a prince over them forever (/0 12!33'.

Eve was =the mother of all livin+ (Moses #!%&'. God brou+ht Adam and Eve to+ether in marria+e

because =it was not +ood that the man should be alone ( Moses "!@$ see also 0orinthians !'.

-he shared Adam*s responsibilit, and will also share his eternal blessin+s.

What can we learn from the e7amples of Adam and Eve?

    The Garden of Eden

5nder what conditions did Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden?

When Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden> the, were not ,et mortal. 8n this state> =the,

would have had no children (% ephi %!%"'. here was no death. he, had physicallife because their

spirits were housed in ph,sical bodies made from the dust of the earth (see Moses &!3:$ Abraham 3!2'.

he, had spirituallife because the, were in the presence of God. he, had not ,et made a choice

    between +ood and evil.

God commanded them to have children. He said> =Be fruitful> and multipl,> and replenish the earth>

and subdue it> and have dominion over C ever, livin+ thin+ that moveth upon the earth ( Moses %!%@'.

God told them the, could freel, eat of ever, tree in the +arden e7cept one> the tree of knowled+e of

+ood and evil. Df that tree God said> =8n the da, thou eatest thereof thou shalt surel, die ( Moses

    "!2'.

-atan> not knowin+ the mind of God but seekin+ to destro, God*s plan> came to Eve in the Garden of

Eden. He tempted her to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowled+e of +ood and evil. He assured her that

she and Adam would not die> but that the, would =be as +ods> knowin+ +ood and evil ( Moses #!'.

Eve ,ielded to the temptation and ate the fruit. When Adam learned what had happened> he chose topartake also. he chan+es that came upon Adam and Eve because the, ate the fruit are called the )all.

Adam and Eves Separation from God

What ph,sical and spiritual chan+es occurred in Adam and Eve as a result of their trans+ression?

Because Adam and Eve had eaten the fruit of the tree of knowled+e of +ood and evil> the

eatin+ the forbidden fruit. As God had promised> the, became mortal. he, and their children would

    e7perience sickness> pain> and ph,sical death.

Because of their trans+ression> Adam and Eve also suFered spiritual death. his meant the, and their

children could not walk and talk face to face with God. Adam and Eve and their children were

separated from God both ph,sicall, and spirituall,.

Great Blessings Resulted from the Transgression

How does the )all provide opportunities for us to become like our Heavenl, )ather?

-ome people believe Adam and Eve committed a serious sin when the, ate of the tree of knowled+e of

+ood and evil. However> latterda, scriptures help us understand that their )all was a necessar, step in

the plan of life and a +reat blessin+ to all of us. Because of the )all> we are blessed with ph,sical

bodies> the ri+ht to choose between +ood and evil> and the opportunit, to +ain eternal life. one of

these privile+es would have been ours had Adam and Eve remained in the +arden.

After the )all> Eve said> =Were it not for our trans+ression we never should have had seed childrenI>

and never should have known +ood and evil> and the Jo, of our redemption> and the eternal life which

God +iveth unto all the obedient (Moses 3!'.

he prophet behold> if Adam had not trans+ressed he would not have fallen been cut oF from the

presence of GodI> but he would have remained in the Garden of Eden. And all thin+s which were

created must have remained in the same state in which the, were after the, were created. C

=And the, would have had no children$ wherefore the, would have remained in a state of innocence>

havin+ no Jo,> for the, knew no miser,$ doin+ no +ood> for the, knew no sin.

=But behold> all thin+s have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all thin+s.

    =Adam fell that men mi+ht be$ and men are> that the, mi+ht have Jo, (% ephi %!%%4%3'.

Wh, do ,ou think it is important to know about the )all and how it inKuences us?
