Dear brothers in the Lord
I am sure that you have found the past few weeks to have been very busy as the
Calendar of the Church marches towards Advent. I trust that the All Saints and All Souls
celebrations were richly blessed.
Prayers for peace.
November 11th
marks Remembrance Day, the ending of The First World War. It also
includes remembrance of all those killed in other conflicts around the world. Thousands
of South Africans of all racial groups lost their lives in those desperate struggles of the
last Century. We pray for the repose of their souls and the comfort of God for their
loved ones.
Almighty God, Father of all mercies and giver of all comfort;
Deal graciously, we pray thee, with those who mourn;
That casting every care on thee,They may know the consolation of thy love;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I am fortunate in that my school has an annual Remebrance Day Ceremony, to honour
the many boys and teachers from the school who died in the great conflicts of the 20th
Century.
Our new South Africa has had a good but often turbulent transition into a full, free anddemocratic state, but this year has been more difficult than most, with widespread
unrest, strikes and considerable loss of life and property. As Christians, our prayers for
the leadership of our land are to be constant and intense, for they are open to great
temptation in terms of the abuse of power and wealth, and sometimes they seem to
forget those who are most vulnerable amongst our people. The needs of the poor and
marginalised among us are pressing, and their levels of desperation grow as economic
times become tougher. The unemployed and older people have a particularly hard time
at present, and the support of the church is vital, as far as we can give it.
The SAPB has a beautiful Collect on page 42, specifically for In Time of Civil or Industrial
Strife. Perhaps we should be using it on Sundays in our parish prayers?
Let us pray for a just settlement of the present Trouble.
O God, who willest that men should live and work together as brethren;
Remove, we beseech thee, from those who are now at variance,
The spirit of strife and selfishness,
That seeking only that which is just they may ever abide in brotherly union and concord,
to their own well-being, and to the good of all mankind;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
It will be through our constant intercession, and the faithful prayers of all our people,
that peace and prosperity will be attained by all who dwell in our land.

Confirmation and Visitation at St Cyprian the Martyr, Atteridgeville
It is always good to visit St Cyprians, and to be a part of that vibrant and steadily
growing presence in the community of Atteridgeville.
On this occasion, I came to the parish for Confirmation, to meet a prospective
clergyman and to tell those who have been in theological training of their date of
Ordination. I was assisted in the Mass by Fr Martin Magoleng and Deacon Michael
Masego. Fr David Aphane was also in attendance, but was not feeling well enough to
participate.

The Parish of All Saints has been a bastion of Anglican Orthodoxy since the inception of
the Anglican Church in Southern Africa and was one of the founding parishes. As the
leading parish of the Diocese, they will be hosting the Ordination of Priests and
Deacons on 15th
December 2012. Parishes from all over our Diocese will be attending,
as will some from neighbouring Zimbabwe. It will be an important service as we
recognise new ministries and empower men to carry the Gospel to all people. I urge you
to make arrangements for your parish to attend this important day in the life of the
Diocese.

The lovely High Altar on All Saints Day in the Pro-Cathdral
On this particular Sunday, a well-prepared group were presented for Confirmation. The
church was full and the fellowship was excellent. Fr Setati, Fr Sethowa and Fr Selolo
have done a sterling job in keeping the parish as strong as it is. The people of St John
the Baptist, Mamotintane and St Augustine, Mpahlele were also represented.

I do hope that as many as possible will be able to make the journey to All Saints Pro-
Cathedral, Seshego, for that milestone celebration and enjoy a good day of Diocesanfellowship.
Christ the King, Khuma and St Augustines, Jouberton (North West Province)
In ad Clerum 3.12, I wrote of Fr Allen Smith and I going to Jouberton (Klersdorp) to meet
some clergy and people who wished to join the TAC. We traveled again to Jouberton on
Sunday 11th
November to formally welcome these people into the TAC.
I was joined on the trip by Fr John Mashiane (St. Lawrence, Hammanskraal), Thabo
Mokoko (Holy Cross, Pretoria) Deacon Michael Maseko (Holy Trinity, Mamelodi) Fr Allen
Smith (St Andrews, Mondeor) and a whole carload of lay people from St Andrews,
driven by our Chancellor, Paul du Plessis.
In the service, 16 people were Confirmed and welcomed into full communion in the
Church, while Fr Kgwele David Sephai, Fr Hendrik Kotie Diamond and Fr Vusimuzi
Wonderful Edom were all Licenced as Priests into our Diocese and the Traditional
Anglican Communion. We welcome them all and pray that the work of the church will
prosper in that part of His vineyard. I ask for your prayers for all these fine people.
