AD ASTRA HOSTEL
Erin Bryne Head of Hostel 2016
Welcome to 2016 Well the holidays are almost over and we are looking at a hot February and a lot of fun but also hard
work here at the hostel for 2016. We had very good pass rates for NCEA We had a number pass
with merit and excellence endorsements, well done. Joanne and I are looking forward to a great 2016
with all our girls both new and returning ones. Our numbers are on the rise again and we will have a
very full dorm in Fraser and may have to open up Page dorm again. This is a great sign that we are
again a great option for girls only education and boarding.

Erin Bryne, Head of Hostel 2016. like all decisions, it was a hard one, but also the right one. Erin will do a fantastic job leading the girls and her team of prefects, Jade Murphy is her deputy, Shannon Te Kira, Phoebe Torrie & Savanna Goodin are prefects. Erin has matured into a wonderful young women who is confident and wise as well as considerate of others. Erin has wanted this since
starting here.
Rivercity Asset Management Ltd January 2016
Jade Murphy - Deputy Head of Hostel 2016. Jade will be an awe-some Deputy with her enthusiasm and ideas but also bring some sanity to Erin as at times she can run wild. Shannon Te Kira Head of Sport at School 2016. Well done Shannon on achieving this honour, you will be awesome.
Sumer Fun With the temperature in the high 20’s the girls will be using the
school pool a lot and we may also take them to the river on the bis-
cuit behind the boat and even out to the beach or lakes. Please
send your girls with plenty of sun block and a hat. We try to mini-
mise their risk in all activities but accidents do happen so if you
don’t want your daughter involved in some of the activities, please
let us know. A box of Panadol and Ibuprofen are also a good idea
to have on hand. These can be given to Joanne and she will name
them and they will only given to your daughter as needed.
Sports
Please encourage your daughters to participate in as many sports
and activities as possible. It is a great way to keep active, make
friendships, be involved in many different types of experiences that
will grow them in confidence and who they are. We will try as best
we can to get them to the different activities but sometimes are just
unable to do every trip. Taxi trips maybe necessary from time to
time.
Leisure Time
Please remind your daughters that communication is essential in
the running of Ad Astra and as such communication about their
plans will result in many more favorable activities happening like
going to the movies, Splash Center, town etc.
Standards We often have arguments
with some girls about what
is acceptable and what is
not when it comes to dress
standards, piercings, tattoos
and jewelry.
We have a mildly conserva-
tive dress standard at the
hostel. No gaping tops or
very short tops or shorts or
transparent clothing without
another top underneath.
Piercings - No tongue or
facial piercing, and a max of
2 piercings in each ear.
Tattoos - No obvious tat-
toos. If your daughter has to
have them, then the have to
be covered by clothing.
Hair Colour - Must be a
natural hair colour but no
hair dye at hostel. It must be
coloured elsware.
If in doubt about any of the
above, we are happy to ex-
plain.
