From the Pastor’s desk:

Building on Archbishops Myers’ pastoral letter and

the readings of this Sunday, it is good to comment

further. Repeating, the marriage covenant is only

between a man and a woman. In Genesis Chapter 2,

the man is the first created human being. His role is

to be High Priest of the family. The man is to guard,

protect and work for this family. The man is the

spiritual head of the family not the woman. In this

context , the Lord institutes the sacredness of

marriage. This is the first covenant of the Bible. It

reflects God’s sovereign desire to be with us in a

forever sustainable relationship. This is the reason

God hates divorce for He never wants us even for a

moment to be separated from Him. No wonder

Adam’s words are “at last bone of my bones and

flesh of my flesh”. Adam is saying that his wife is

his very essence. This is what we are all to be in

Jesus Christ.

There is an ancient Jewish belief that when the first

woman was formed from Adam’s rib, she came to

Adam walking on the leaves and beautiful music was

heard. Marriage is truly the two becoming one.

What a union of three - God, the husband and the

wife. The husband is never a master putting down

his wife. They walk in mutual fidelity together

showing Jesus and the Church. I direct you to

Ephesians 5:21. Man and woman must be clear on

their distinct roles. In the confusion of the hour in

which we live this often is not seen. So again, man

is only to be married to a woman. This is still what

the Church calls Holy Matrimony. When a couple

gets married it is for two basic reason 1) love 2) to

have children. This is God’s plan. This is God’s

way.

I want to honor those in our IHM community who

are a great example of marriage stability. To those

who struggle in their marriages, I pray that God will

sustain you with His grace.

Yours in the Eucharist,

Fr. Bill

Stewardship Reflection - October 7, 2012

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time “The man gave names to all the cattle, all the

birds of the air, and all wild animals; but none proved

to be the suitable partner for the man.” (Genesis 2:20)

The creation story reminds us that from the very

beginning of time God put the entire world into our

care. We are called to be God’s stewards - offering our

service and our sacrifice for the benefit of all.

and all those who are seriously

ill. Please note: The hospital does not call to advise us if a parishioner is a patient. The

only way we have of knowing is if a family

member calls to advise us. We only place the name on the sick list if a family member

requests it. When a person has

recuperated please call to advise us so that their name can be removed.

Academy in Action

Earlier this month, the St. Bartholomew

Academy community offered its prayers and thoughts to

the victims of September 11, 2001. The students and

faculty offered a moment of silence and lessons were

taught throughout the school to help the children

understand the significance of 9/11/01.

Many of the students in Mrs. Conroy’s 6th grade class

were born around the time of this tragedy in American

history. Their history lesson this September 11 was

focused on learning what happened 11 years ago and

why it is so important for them to never forget. Each

student was given a blank square of paper and asked to

write an original poem or message or to draw a picture.

They were told to keep the victims of the tragedy in

mind, honor the heroes or show their feelings for the

United States. They proudly displayed their work and

the quilt served as a beautiful memorial in the hallway

for all to see and remember.

Mrs. Stetin’s 3rd grade class read a story about the John

J. Harvey, the historic fireboat built in 1930's. It was

used to help fight fires burning on 9/11 after the

hydrants at ground zero were destroyed. They discussed

all of the heroes of that day and celebrated them. Each

child also made a quilt square that represented the

events on 9/11 and even though they weren't alive on

that day in 2001, the 3rd graders now know the history

and understand that out of something very bad, good can

emerge.

The Parents’ Guild We are looking for a few people willing to be part of a

family oriented program. We are planning events for

working with the Parents’ Guild, please contact the
