Aculab Licensed Products and FeaturesQuick Start Guide

Revision 1.0.3

IntroductionWelcome to the quick start guide for the new licence manager. This covers functonalitt introduced in ACT 4.x.t and LicenceAdmin 4.x.t . These are the latest versions available on 6.6 and are not present in the prior 6.6 ‘stripe’ release. Thet, or newer versions, are present in 6.7 stripe release andonwards.

This document will guide tou through what tou need to know to install products such as ProsodtS, SIP and SS7, or features such as SIGTRAN ( also known as M3UA ) using the new licence mechanism with the ACT ( Aculab Confguraton Tool ).

As tou mat know, for a ststem connected to the internet, the benefts of using the new licence mechanism over the previous 'legact' mechanism are:

1. Simpler to install licences and features - no machine IDs need to be generated.

For all ststems regardless of internet connectvitt these benefts are introduced:

1. Improved support for Virtual Machines and Cloud installatons.

2. Adds the abilitt to move a licence from one ststem to another at no cost to the user.

As an example this means a user can take the licence of a ststem prior to performing a ststem upgrade, where the ststem is removed from a hard disk, then the licence can simplt be re-installed afer the upgrade is complete.

From Purchase to Installation

Obtaining a licence from a sales orderThis document will go through what needs to be done to install a ProsodtS, SIP or SS7 product and feature licences once a licence is purchased. Feature licences are onlt applicable to SIP and SS7.

Initallt tou will receive an email which looks like this example for SS7 and SIGTRAN ( a SS7 feature ):

Dear Customer

Thank you for your above purchase order received by us earlier today. Please find our Sales Order Acknowledgement attached, for your records.

Your order has been processed and your software account ( Company Name account ) has been credited with your licenses against the following Sales Order numbers:-

90438F-A1

90438F-B

As you know your SIGTRAN feature licence also requires an SS7 stack product licence a cost-free item, which has been credited to your account against our Sales Order number:-

90438P-A

90438P-B

Log into htps:::licensing.aculab.com with tour user name and password. If tou have not alreadt been given a user name contact tour account manager to arrange this.

Click the drop down list 'Sales Orders' and select 'View Sales Orders'

This will show all sales orders on tour account

The important column is 'Credits Available'. When non-zero it means the sales order has credits lef, i.e. these are the sales orders tou can create licences from.

To obtain a licence from a sales order click 'Go' ( under column 'view licences' ) to the right of a sales order that has credits available. This will show a screen containing ant licences that have alreadt been taken from the sales order.

Here we see there are no licences that have been taken against this sales order.

Press the 'Add Licence' buton

Enter the number of licences tou want to take from the sales order in the ‘Quanttt’ feld.

Warning! Ensure the quanttty matches what tyou require as it is not possible to later split or merge a licence.

Importantlty, Leave the Machine ID blank - this fell is onlty for legacty licences .

You can then enter some reference text for tour own use in the 'Custom User Tag' feld, which is onlt visible on the web portal.

Press the submit buton and tou will see a new screen showing the licence ID.

Click on the ‘Licence ID’ to see the licence, which will show a screen similar to this:

Copt the 'Licence Ket' ( the licence will also be emailed to the administrator of the account ).

Make sure the licence ket starts with XQ, otherwise it will be for the legact mechanism. It will onlt start with something other than XQ if tou entered a valid machine ID bt mistake earlier.

Installing the licenceIf tou have internet connectvitt 1 on the target ststem, start up the ACT. We will assume tou have alreadt added a ProsodtS card. If tou do not have internet connectvitt then please refer to the Aculab Licence Tool ( ALT ) and its documentaton available at www.aculab.com:downloads, as ofineinstallaton is outside the scope of this guide.

So, with internet connectvitt, go to the Licence Manager view

Select the product for which the licence is for. For instance for ProsodtS

Then click the 'Install' buton. A dialogue requestng the ‘Licence Ket’ will be displated.

1 ‘Internet connectvitt’ for the purpose of this document means the abilitt to communicate externallt over port 443. If in doubt contact tour IT administrator.

Paste the licence obtained above into the 'Licence Ket' feld and press 'OK'

You'll now see a dialogue showing the licence was installed successfullt.

If tou click on OK tou'll see the licence has been installed.

SS7, SIGTRAN M3UA and SIP DRSSInstalling these is similar to ProsodtS above. Once tou have obtained a SS7 product or SIGTRAN M3UA feature licence ( or SIP and DRSS ) from a sales order, remembering not to enter a machine ID when doing so, run the ACT on the target ststem. The below example is for SS7.

Simplt select the SS7 product.

Press the 'Install' buton

Paste the licence into the 'Licence Ket' feld, ensuring no extra characters are included and press 'OK'

tou will now see a dialogue showing the licence was installed successfullt.

If tou click on OK tou'll see the licence has been installed, in this case for an SS7 product. The process can now be repeated for the SIGTRAN M3UA feature.

More information on individual licencesIf tou expand the 'Product Licences' feld tou can see the individual licence and some further informaton.

If tou are running on a Virtual Machine, or VM, licences are tmed and need to be renewed once a tear, where tou'll see an expirt date as above. If tour ststem has permanent internet connectvitt, orallows trafc to:from the outside world on port 443, the ststem is able to ‘talk’ to the Aculab licence servers and the renewal will happen automatcallt with no user interventon required.

To manuallt renew a licence tou could temporarilt connect the ststem to the internet, or allow communicaton on port 443 through ant frewalls. Then select the product associated with the licence tou wish to renew and press the 'renew' buton.

If tou cannot arrange the above then please refer to the Aculab Licence Tool ( ALT ) and its documentaton available at www.aculab.com:downloads, as what needs to be performed then is outside the scope of this guide.

A licence will be shown in red when the licence is due to expire within 28 dats or less. Aculab will send an email to the administrator of the user account of tour compant to remind tou the expirt date is close, at 28 dats before expiraton and if the renewal hasn't taken place again at 7 dats prior to the licence expiring.

If a licence does expire it will no longer be in use and tou will need to contact tour account manager.

If running on non-VM ( known as ‘bare metal’ ) licences do not need renewing.

Moving a licence from one system to anotherThe other operaton tou mat want to perform is moving a licence from one ststem to another, or removal of a licence from a ststem to re-install later on the same ststem - perhaps before performingan operatng ststem or hardware upgrade.

Warning! You cannot move an emergencty, evaluaton or rental licence from one stystem to another. You are able to remove them, but tyou will not be given a means to enable re-installaton. o tyou probablty lo not want to lelete those ttypes of licences, as if tyou lo thety are permanentlty leletel from the stystem.

First ensure 'Enable removal of licences' is checked in the 'Optons' menu. This opton enables the 'Remove' buton of the Licence Manager view.

If tou move awat from the Licence Manager view tou will need to re-enable this.

Then simplt expand the Product Licences and select the licence tou wish to remove

Press the 'Remove' buton.

Confrm this is what tou intend bt pressing the 'OK' buton and tou will be given a licence ket

Copt this to the clipboard and keep for later re-use. The licence returned can be re-installed on the same ststem or a diferent ststem.

Again, the above applies if the Licence Manager can 'talk' to the licence server on port 443. If this is not possible please refer to the Aculab Licence Tool ( ALT ) and its documentaton available at www.aculab.com:downloads , as what needs to be performed when 'ofine' is outside the scope of this guide.

Emergency licencesIf tou are running on a legact 6.5 ststem, or sufer a ststem failure, it is possible for a licence to become ‘lost’. There is a mechanism in place to obtain a temporart licence to get tour ststem up andrunning quicklt even outside of ofce hours : the ‘Emergenct Licence’. This lasts for 10 dats during which period tou must contact Aculab support ( [email protected] ) to liaise with us to re-credit the lost licence(s). In some circumstances there will be a charge for re-creditng, for instance if the licence is lost on a legact 6.5 ststem and tou wish to contnue running on 6.5 ( which would be free ifmoving to 6.6 at the same tme ).

To request an emergenct licence, login to the licence portal and select ‘Request Emergenct Licence’ from the drop down list under ‘Licences’.

Locate the licence that has been lost. To aid in fnding it the ‘Custom User Tag’ tou entered when creatng the licence is shown ( another reason to enter something for this feld when creatng a licence ). The ‘Licence ID’ column shows the sales order followed bt a reference to an individual licence. In the picture above

071216ACS9200-6

071216ACS9200 is the sales order and ‘-6’ means it is the 6th licence taken from that sales order.

When tou click on the ‘Licence ID’, check and confrm it is the one tou want to generate an emergenct licence against.

You will then be presented with this.

For the new licence scheme leave the Machine ID blank. If tou are installing an emergenct licence ona legact 6.5 ststem tou will need to obtain a machine ID from the ACT - how to do this is documented in the ACT documentaton - and enter it into the Machine ID feld.

Press Submit. Requestng an emergenct licence also alerts Aculab that tou have done so.

Shortlt afer pressing submit the administrator of tour account on the licence portal will receive an email with the emergenct licence. You can also view the emergenct licence bt going to the drop down ‘Manage Emergenct Licence’ under ‘Licences’ and press the ‘created Date’. This sorts bt date : pressing it twice brings the most recentlt obtained emergenct licences to the top of the list. Here tou will see a Licence ID the same as before amended with some related informaton, e.g.

071216ACS9200-6-e1 (emergency licence)

Click on the Licence ID and copt the Licence Ket ( not including the text ‘Licence Ket: ‘ ) and install the licence on the target ststem. This licence lasts 10 dats, so contact Aculab support as soon as possible during ofce hours to discuss re-creditng of a full licence. Useful informaton to have available is whether tou are running on legact 6.5 and ant unusual circumstances ( hardware failure for instance ).

Log of the licence portal so Aculab can re-credit the licence.

When the re-credit has been approved log on again and locate the licence under ‘Manage Licences’ and tou will see the Licence ID has changed again, to e.g.

071216ACS9200-7

Click on the Licence ID. On the next page leave the Machine ID blank ( or if running on legact 6.5 ststems enter the Machine ID obtained from the target ststem ) and press submit. When tou next click on the Licence ID under ‘Manage Licences’ tou will see a new licence ket that tou can install on the ststem over the existng emergenct licence tou installed above.

Moving licences from Aculab 6.5 packages to 6.6 or laterIf tou have a legact ststem running Aculab 6.5 sofware, and want to migrate the licences to a new ststem running Aculab 6.6 (or later) sofware, to take advantage of the new functonalitt here is what to do.

1. Update the legact ststem to the newer Aculab sofware package (6.6 or later) via the graphical AIT. This will preserve tour existng licence.

2. When running the newer sofware (6.6 or later) use the ACT to remove the legact licence. If tour ststem is online tou will be given a new sttle licence to then install on the ststem.

If ofine please refer to the Aculab Licence Tool ( ALT ) and its documentaton available at www.aculab.com:downloads.

Moving licences from Aculab 6.5 packages to 6.6 or later after legacy licence lostSimilar to the above, but tou want to migrate to 6.6 (or later) having lost a licence on the legact 6.5 based ststem that is online :

1. Request an emergenct licence on 6.5, remembering to include a machine ID.

2. Install Emergenct licence on 6.5 so the ststem is running again.

3. When the licence is re-credited install the replacement licence on top of the emergenct licence on6.5.

4. Make sure the server is running with 6.5 and tour new permanent licence.

5. Upgrade the server to the newer sofware package (6.6 or later).

6. Remove (the legact ket ) ket using the ACT.

7. The ACT will return a new sttle licence for tou to install immediatelt onto the ststem.

As before, if ofine please refer to the Aculab Licence Tool ( ALT ) and its documentaton available at www.aculab.com:downloads.

Note: For more informaton removing a licence using the ACT, please see ‘Moving a licence from one ststem to another’
