STRATEGY DESCRIPTION SAVINGS

Potential cumulative savings 40%-70%

Scheduling

Controls lighting, equipment or other building management systems based on the time of day or astronomical event. Automates energy savings by delivering the desired light levels throughout the day without using unnecessary electricity.

10%-40%

Daylight HarvestingAutomatically regulates the use of electric lighting in response to the amount of daylight available. Saves energy while maintaining consistent illumination for occupant comfort and safety.

5%-15%

Continuous DimmingVaries the light output of the lighting system over a continuous range from full to a minimum light output without fl ickering, in imperceptible steps. Reduces energy consumption without disrupting occupants and often satisfi es code requirements for bi-level or multi-level lighting control.

Situational

Personal ControlEnables users to adjust their illuminated environment to fi t their personal preferences within a space. Maximizes occupant comfort and can increase productivity.

5%-25%

Lumen Maintenance ControlAdjusts lamp power over time to maintain constant light output as lamps age and dirt accumulates in luminaires. Saves energy early in the life of a system and extends lamp life.

Situational

Occupancy Sensing

Regulates the operation of lighting or other equipment by detecting the presence or absence of people within a space. Ensures electricity is consumed only when the space is in use and can be extended to HVAC and/or plug load control to help centralized building management.

10%-30%

HVACExtends a lighting control system to also control an HVAC system based on occupancy or time of day. Helps centralize building management and reduces energy consumption for additional savings.

Situational

TuningProgramming the maximum light output of an individual or group of luminaires to provide the desired amount of light for a space, task or area. Extends lamp life and enhances lumen performance over time.

Load Shedding Selectively reduces the load of a system on a temporary basis to avoid peak pricing. 5%-15%

5%-15%

Plug Load ControlExtends a lighting control system to control plug loads based on time of day, occupancy or a demand response signal. Helps centralize building management and reduces energy consumption for additional savings.

Situational

IMPLEMENTING MULTIPLE LEVELS of control strategies with innovative and practical solutions from Acuity Controls saves time through automation and saves money by reducing energy consumption by as much as 70%. The following table explains these different control strategies and their potential to save energy.
