The purpose of this presentation is to give information to the
viewers about various actresses in the 1920’s and their roles in
movies.
The “It” Girl- THE flapper of the 1920’s
Born in Brooklyn, NY- in poverty, family violenceEntered film business at a young age
Born in Philadelphia in 1906- moved to San Francisco and entered movie business
Received the first Oscar for Best Actress for 1928 Academy Awards
Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1899- moved around as a child from Chicago to Key West, Florida, and San Juan, Puerto Rico
Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1890- made debut as an actress at age three with her parents in Holden Co., a touring company
Born in Massillon, Ohio in 1898- born into a broken family where her father was mostly absent
Born in Springfield, Ohio in 1893- dad (james less gish) was and alcoholic and rarely home to be a father figure
Born in Canada in 1892- both parents were actors
Appeared in 51 films….almost one a week!!!
Helped to establish United Artists Pictures
Born in San Antonio, Texas in 1905
Her parents’ separated before she was born and she knew threes different fathers growing up
Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1908
Was discovered while playing baseball in the streets with some boys
