• El Kerógeno I que se origina a partir de material orgánico tipo algáceo, depositado en ambientes lagunares continentales, produce hidrocarburos ricos en ceras y compuestos saturados.
• El Kerógeno II se caracteriza porque sus organismos son de origen marino y su textura sapropélica con escasos aportes de material terrígeno, depositados mayoritariamente en ambientes de plataforma continental.
