A CIO Focus meeting on “Storage” was organized on Friday, 4thApril 2008. A panel discussion on the topic “Homogeneous versusHeterogeneous Storage Infrastructure” was a part of thisprogramme.

A talk on 29th April 2008 on “Enhance Your IT Skills and Career atSingapore” by Dr. Venkat Ramanathan from the Institute of SystemSciences, National University of Singapore was organized for thebenefit of student and professionals who would like to enhancetheir career opportunities.

A CIO Focus meeting on “Enterprise Infrastructure” was organizedon 21st May 2008. A panel discussion on the topic “Can CIOsstop paying the IT complexity tax?” was a part of this programme.

An open forum meeting on “Work Related Stress” on 5th Jun2008. The lead speaker was Dr EA Campbell President, BritishPsychological Society, Head of Section of Psychological MedicineDivision of Community Based Sciences, University of GlasgowGartnavel Royal Hospital, Glasgow. Others include: Ms.Saundarya Rajesh, Chief Executive, Avtar Career Creators, Prof.E.S. Krishnamoorthy, Director Neurosciences India Group(NSIG), Neurologist & Neuropsychiatrist, Nithya H.M, clinicalpsychologist, Institute of Neurological Sciences, Voluntary HealthAssociation, and Thadeus Alphonso, clinical social worker.

Monthly Technical meeting on the topic “Personal Security andPrivacy on the Web” by Dr. Prabhaker Mateti, Associate Professor,Dept. of CSE, Wright State University, Ohia, USA was organizedon 19th Jul 2008.

A CIO Focus meeting on “Security” was organized on 23rd Jul2008. A panel discussion on the topic “Which is more essential —compliance, security or operability?” was a part of this programme.

Presentation on “IT Governance” by Mr. N.S.N. Pillai, Head –Risk Management & Information Security at Ashok Leyland andthe President of ISACA, Chennai Chapter on 8th Aug 2008.

Presentation on “Control Objectives for Information and relatedTechnology (COBIT), an IT governance framework” by Mr. R.Vittal Raj, Chartered Accountant & Director Certification, ISACAChennai Chapter on 8th Aug 2008.

At CDAC, Chennai a two day workshop on ‘Linux Desktop andSystem Administration’ was organized during 22 & 23 January2008.

A Two-day workshop on “Open Source Software Developmentusing Apache, MySQL, PHP and their Applications” wasconducted during 23-24, Jan 2008 at the School of ComputingSciences of VIT University, Vellore.

A Workshop on “Linux Internals, FOSS & Ruby on Rails” washeld on 23rd and 24th Jan 2008 at Technology Park, BharathidasanUniversity, Trichy.

A one day workshop on the theme “All Round Testing: State ofART in Software Testing” was jointly organized at Chennai on22nd Feb 2008 to highlight the growing importance of testing andto provide a unique platform to address the multi-dimensionalaspects of Software Testing spanning management commitment,process innovation, advances in technology and Human Resourcesimplications.

Conferences / Seminars:

A national conference on Education & Research (ConfER - 2008)with the theme “ICT as the key Enabler for Innovation and Growth”was organized during 27-29 March 2008 by the School ofComputing Sciences, VIT University, Vellore.

A national conference on “VLSI, Embedded Systems and SignalProcessing (NCVESCOM’08)” during 8-9, May 2008 wasorganised in association with the Department of Electronics andCommunication Engineering, Aarupadai Veedu Institute ofTechnology, Vinayaka Missions University.

IEEE Computer Society, Madras Chapter is pleased report that a total of 44 events were organized during the year 2008. It collaborated withComputer Society of India, IEEE Madras Section, IEEE PES, IEEE TMC, IEEE COMSOC, IEEE PELS, CICC Singapore, CIO Magazine, CNBC-TV18,Biztech2.com, DELNET and a no. of host institutions (universities and engineering and arts & science colleges) and companies in organizing these events.All the events were well attended and appreciated by the participants.

“Carte Blanche 08” an exclusive event for and on Free and Opensource Technologies, aimed at creating awareness on OSS was heldat Chennai on 1st & 2nd Mar 2008 and was organized by theComputer Association of MIT (Madras Inst. of Technology),Anna Univ.

A national level technical symposium, “Resonance ‘08” wasorganized during 4th & 5th of March 2008 at VIT University, Vellore.Resonance’08 hosted 16 events covering every branch of theengineering sciences, from robotics to mechanical sciences, fromartificial intelligence to a virtual maze.

A one day seminar on “Software Engineering Process Models”was organized at Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology, Chennaion 11th Sep 2008. Mr. Mohan Sidhan, CEO, Vyosoft SolutionsPvt Ltd was the presenter.
