Hiking and Biking

Glendorn

Glendorn’s 1600 acre estate The property at Glendorn has a wide range of trails for hiking and biking. The 18-mile trail system offers various levels of hiking and biking adventures for you to explore while staying with us. You can find a color coded tri-fold trail map at Fuller Brook Outfitters to take with you with suggestions for trails ranging from easy to most difficult. One of our activities guides will be happy to suggest and highlight a loop or you may just start exploring on your own. Arrangements can be made for pack lunches to take along or be delivered to several picnic areas on the grounds.

Allegheny National Forest trails For more adventure try a day hike in the Allegheny National Forest (ANF). Trail maps are available at the Bradford District Ranger Station. The trails on the ANF are for more advanced hikers with a good sense of direction in the woods—quality hiking gear is recommended. Most day hike loops in the ANF range from 8-14 miles in length. There are also several picnic areas that have short and easy loops with scenic views across the Allegheny Reservoir.

Biking A vast majority of the trails & roadways at Glendorn and its surrounding area are great for road and mountain biking. Let one of our activities guides suggest a trail or road for your next ride. A limited amount of biking gear is available at the lodge. We have a line of Trek 29er Mt. Bikes, Tandem and Beach Cruisers, along with a range of helmets.

Group rides are offered each Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. for road and Thursdays at 6:00 for Mt. Bike out of Bradford’s local bike shop, Just Riding Along.

Court and

Yard gameS

Court GamesGlendorn is proud to offer a VersaCourt all- purpose athletic court to our guests for tennis, basketball and shuffleboard. The courts open each morning at sun up and can be played on until dark. All necessary equipment including tennis balls, racquets, basketballs, shuffleboard cues, discs and bottled water are available at the courts. Reservations are necessary for lessons or a partner.

Yard GamesThroughout the property you can find various yard games including bocce ball, horse shoes and bean bag toss. Croquet may be played on the croquet court and Bocce Ball may be played on The Big House lawn or at Bondieu Lake. Mallets, balls and rules are kept are the court. Bocce Ball sets are available on the sun porch and at the Bondieu Lake Boathouse.

Swimming

The swimming pool at Glendorn is located just outside of the main lodge. The water is heated to 80 degrees Memorial to Labor Day each year. You’ll find towels and robes in the Cabanas along with hot showers and changing areas. The comfortable furniture is a great place to read a book in the summer sun.

Water SportS

On site water sports activity takes place at Bondieu Lake. There you’ll find canoes, kayaks and SUP’s (Stand up Paddleboards) located lakeside with paddles and life jackets in the boat house. All water sports are grab and go for your convenience.

Daily arrangements can be made to float local rivers using one of several canoe and kayak out-fitters. Arrangements can be made for lunches to enjoy on one of several river islands.

Jeep TourS

Explore our 1600 acres in a guided Jeep Tour. Our guides will show you some of the best sights Glendorn has to offer. Learn about the history of the land as well as the natural flora and fauna that is show-cased on our 18 miles of trails. Each Jeep is equipped with a Mat-track wheel system in the winter to allow off roading in the deep snow.

Cooking ClaSSeS

Spend an afternoon in the Kitchen with our Award Wining Culinary Staff. Glendorn’s state of the art kitchen is the center of an extraor-dinary team of culinary experts who are pas-sionate about creating memorable meals for our guests. Go behind the scenes and learn the preparation of your favorite dish or discover what Chef is preparing that day. Classes last an hour and must be reserved in advance.

Fly FiShing

Fly fishing is one of the many activities that guests enjoy at Glendorn. Our Glendorn prop-erty and Spring Creek Property give you access to several miles of privately managed brooks, streams and ponds for trout fishing. Our Orvis Endorsed guides can instruct novices as well as seasoned anglers.

Bondieu LakeGlendorn’s largest lake and the most open for casting. Bondieu is easily fished from its shore-line as well as from a canoe, kayak or drift boat, which you can find at its dock. Bondieu has a variety of hatches including green & brown drakes, caddis and midges, so you’ll often find fish rising and readily sucking in dry flies.

Skipper LakeHome to very large trout, Skipper is Glendorn’s next largest lake. Skipper is situated right in the heart of the property and is closest to the main lodge and cabins. It’s a great place to wet a line if you’re limited in your fishing time and while you’re there stop in the boat house and spin up a couple flies at our fly tying bench.

Jill LakeJill’s Lake is Glendorn’s small fishing pond at the far-west side of the property. Because all of its banks are tree lined, Jill’s can be the most diffi-cult for casting. If you can roll cast or manipulate your back cast through gaps in the trees branch-es, you’ll be rewarded with eagerly feeding trout. Jill’s has various mayfly, caddisfly and midge hatches throughout the season.

Fuller Brook and TununguwantFuller Brook is Glendorn’s prized trout stream and offers excellent fishing from its banks. It meanders for three and a half miles throughout the property in two branches, converging into one branch at the Roost Cabin bridge. Fuller Brook flows throughout the property before emptying into the Tuna. The Tuna runs approximately two miles and is outstanding for trout fishing.

Spring Creek PropertyLocated a short drive from Glendorn lies our Spring Creek property. Spring Creek is desig-nated as a Class ‘A’ Wild Trout Stream by the state of Pennsylvania. This stream has been left in its natural state, leaving it pure and pristine, and blessed with populations of wild brown and brook trout. With its wide variety of hatches and an abundance of mayflies, midges, caddis, and stoneflies, this is is truly a fly fishers dream.

Shooting

Trap and Skeet Shooting Let our instructors introduce you to shotgun shooting. Learn gun mounts, stance and eye dom-inance theories. Enjoyable for beginners as well as those with prior experience.

Sporting ClaysThe nearby Bradford Gun Club, which hosts national shooting events, has a 100 target sporting clays course and is only a few minutes from Glen-dorn. The club offers our guests private rounds of Sporting Clays hosted by one of our instructors. Arrangements can be made for individuals or groups for 50 or 100 target rounds.

Hunting

Guided HuntingLet our expert guides take you on a grouse, chucker, spring gobbler or whitetail deer hunt. Seasons are observed, as are bag limits and state licensing requirements. Advanced reservations are suggested to ensure availability.

Upland BirdGlendorn offers some of the finest upland bird hunting in the country on thousands of acres sur-rounding our Lodge our Spring Creek preserve located one hour from the lodge. A wide variety of hunts are offered with our Wing Shooting pro-gram which accommodates both beginners as well as seasoned hunters. Hunts include wild grouse, wild woodcock, chukar, pheasant, and wild tur-key. Once your day in the field is complete, wind down in the comfort of your suite or cabin while Glendorn’s Executive Chef prepares a gourmet meal with the days rewards.

Winter ActivitieS

Snowshoeing Glendorn and its trail system make a great place to explore. You can use a complimentary pair of our snowshoes and hike to our favorite winter snowshoe destination, the Hideout, where our staff will set up a gourmet lunch and have a fire waiting for your arrival. From the Hideout, you may choose any one of our trails to meander your way back to your private cabin or suite.

Ice FishingEnjoy a winter day on one of our lakes with Glendorn’s ice fishing guides in the months of January, February or March. Once on the ice, Glendorn’s guides will show you how to set tip ups and jig for walleye, pike and various pan fish species including yellow perch. While you are catching fish, your guide will set-up a heated ice tent for you to take a break from the winter air and a nice place to enjoy your gourmet lunch and hot chocolate. That evening enjoy a gourmet fish dinner prepared with what you caught that day!

CurlingSkipper Lake transforms into our own curling sheet, complete with new curling equipment including lighting, warming hut and of course hot chocolate.

SleddingSleds are provided for your use to slide down one of our many smaller hills or you can brave the snow-covered road and steer your way down the Hideout Hill.

SnowmobilingExplore the property and experience the excite-ment of snowmobiling on a guided snowmobile tour. Our guides provide you with a fun, safe and informative tour full of adventure and fun for all ages*. You will enjoy beginner-friendly groomed trail systems as well as large open meadows, and very scenic views! Fully-guided, on-property hour and a half tours leave each morning follow-ing breakfast and each afternoon following lunch.

Winter ActivitieS

Cross Country Skiing Our vast hiking trail system transforms into groomed cross-country skiing trails with terrain suited for all levels of skiers where you may ski on groomed trails or cut your own tracks through the woods. Along the way you’ll find three rejuve-nating warming cabins, with wood burning fire-places, to take your skis off and take a moment to soak in the wilderness around you before continu-ing on your adventure.

Down Hill SkiingCombine downhill skiing and luxurious accom-modations for a memorable skiing adventure. Ski HoliMont or Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY which is approximately a 30 minute drive from the lodge.

Ice SkatingEnjoy an old-time favorite, Glendorn hosts Ice Skating at Skipper Lake. Ice skates are available at Skipper Lake Boat House.

Indoor

Entertainment

There are over 40 wood-burn-ing fireplaces on property to keep you cozy while you enjoy the ‘great indoors’. Par Puzzles, board games and books can be found in the Pine Sitting Room and The Playhouse Con-ference Center. Billiard tables are available in the Main Lodge Billiard Room and The Playhouse Conference Center. Direct TV and movies are available for viewing in your ac-commodation, The Big House Billiards Room or Playhouse Conference Center. A digital projector with surround sound, a large screen television with surround sound, a Blu-Ray player, a DVD player and video games are available at the Play-house Conference Center.
