Sure Start Birchills and North Walsall Children’s Centre is a government initiative that provides a range of multi-agency services for families with children under 5 years. All families are able to access the activities listed in this leaflet, however our outreach and home visiting service is only available to families living in Butts, Birchills, Croft , Chuckery or North Walsall areas All activities will take place at Sure Start Children’s Centre , Birchills Street unless otherwise stated. SPRING TERM January—April 2014

Activities Start 13th January unless otherwise stated.

MONDAY .9.15 - 11.30 CHATTERBOX PLAYGROUP Chatterbox is an early education group for chil-dren the term after their 2nd birthday until the term after their 3rd birthday Normally children are offered 2 sessions each week. The group focuses on developing children’s language and social skills to ensure children are ready to learn when they start school.

If you are interested in your child attending any of the sessions offered please complete an application form available from reception. Please be aware that

their is normally a waiting list for this group.

9.15 - 12.00 LANGUAGE GROUP By appointment only

9.00 - 12.00 HEALTH TRAINER One to one support with managing a healthy life-

style. For more details contact reception

9.00 - 11.00 PLAY AND STAY AT St PATRICKS CATHOLIC SCHOOL A group for children under 5 years and their par-ents . Come along and have some

1.00 - 3.00 MESSY MONKEY’S In the family Room

A creative play session for children and their par-ents. COME SUITABLY DRESSED

1.00—3.00 BASIC SKILLS for Non English speakers A group for anyone who is interested in improv-ing their communication skills Further details can be obtained from reception

1.00-3.00 BASIC ENGLISH / MATHS / COM-PUTORS

If you are fluent in English but want to improve your written English, maths and IT skills , this is

the courses for you Further details From Rachael .

12.30 - 3.30 CHATTERBOX PLAYGROUP At CROFT ACADEMY (term time only) Chatterbox is an early education group for chil-dren the term after their 2nd birthday until the term after their 3rd birthday.

TUESDAY .

10.00 - 12.00 WELL BABY CLINIC (1st and 3rd Tue of every month )

A health professional is available to weigh your baby and to offer advice and support on all aspects of

your baby’s development.

10.00 - 12.00 PLAY AND STAY in the Activity Room

A fun session for children under 5 years and their parents.

Why don’t you become involved in our Parents in Part-nership Project by recording your child’s Learning

Journey. Staff will be happy to provide further information

Richard THE MUSIC MAN will be joining the group lots of action songs and Rhymes.

9.30—11.30 PLAY AND STAY AT THE SALVATION ARMY

Rolling programme of speakers each week

1.00 - 3.30 MIDWIFERY CLINIC By appointment only

12.45—2.45 ARTIIFICIAL NAILS

Starting 14th January for 10 weeks Run by Walsall Adult College the course will

teach you how to care for your nails , to put on acrylic nails and how to infill

Qualification available if required.

12.30—3.00 CRECHE available to support parents attending training sessions

Cost £2.50 per session per child

1.00—3.00 STORY SACKS A 6 week group for children and parents . Starts

14th January. Book with Rachael.

FREE EARLY EDUCATION PLACES

FOR 2 year olds

If your family are on benefits and are eligible

for FREE school meals then your 2 year old

could be entitled to a FREE childcare place in

Stanley’s Nursery.

.10.00 - 3.00 WEDNESDAY IS LIBRARY DAY Come along to our children’s library and let our li-

brarian help you choose books for your child.

10.30 —11.30 STORY SESSION Join nursery staff and our librarian for a session

of story and action songs

9.30 - 11.30 STRENGTHENING FAMILIES parenting programme

(13 week programme starting 8th January) Intended for parents and carers who want to

know more about parenting.

9.15—11.45 FAMILY LINK WORKERS COURSE LEVEL 2

An 15 week OCN accredited courses for those who want to work with and support parents

and children with additional needs Starting 22nd January

9.15—11.45 CRECHE

Places available for parents attending training courses only . Book a place with reception

12.45 - 3.00 CHATTERBOX PLAYGROUP A group for children aged 2 - 3 years

Children attending this group will normally attend a second session on a Friday

1.30 - 3.00 BUMPS AND BABES

A group for ante-natal and post natal parents until babies are 12 months old. A 10 week programme of speakers covering all aspects of childcare and child

development . Ideal for new parents

This group includes a CRADLE CLUB Story time session with our LIBRARIAN

THURSDAY

12.00-7.00 HEALTH TRAINER (Marilyn) One to

one support with managing healthy lifestyle.

9.30 - 12.00 BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP

If you are a breastfeeding mom then come and meet other moms. Share your experiences. Specialist

Health Visitor advisors available for advice.

9.30—11.30 McEwan parenting programme Invitation only

9.30—11.30 BIG COOK LITTLE COOK Come and enjoy cooking activities with your child. 3 sessions to choose from. Details of dates and availability from reception

9.00—3.00 MELLOW Parenting Programme

Invitation only.

9.00—3.00 CRECHE available to support par-ents attending training sessions Cost £2.50 per session per child

1.30 - 3.00 PLAY AND STAY Come and join in the fun. Lots of activities for par-ents and children under 5 years. This group focuses

on children learning through their senses.

12.30 - 3.30 CHATTERBOX PLAYGROUP At CROFT ACADEMY

5.00 - 7.00 STEPPING STONES

6.00—7.30 RELAXED BIRTH For expectant moms and dads. Come and see how gentle exercise and yoga can help you prepare for

the birth of your baby

4 week rolling programme. Individual sessions may be available

COMMUNITY CAFÉ

Why not stop and have lunch in our community café. A range of healthy snacks or a cooked meal is available including children’s healthy lunch boxes

In MARCH the Children ’ s Centre will be celebrating 10 years of support to local

families. Over that time we have had the privilege of working with over 10,000 chil-

dren under the age of 5 years

To celebrate we would like to invite all families to join us in a BIG PARTY to be held
