Use of the passive voice

When the action is more importan than the person.

When the agent is unknown.

In formal actions like lectures, reports or academic writing.

RULE EXPLANATION To be (in original sentence verb tense)

Verb (participio)

Present simple The pizza is eaten by the children.

Past simple The pizza was eaten by the children.

Present perfect The pizza have been eaten by the children.

Past perfect simple The pizza had been eaten by the children.

Future -The pizza will be eaten by the children.-The pizza is going to be eaten by the children-Modal: The pizza Can/must/should be eaten by the children.

Active to passive transformation

The subject of the senten becomes the object in the passive sentence, and the object becomes

the subject of the passive sentence.

Rebeca opens the windows

The Windows are opened by her/Reneca

Example sentences

The chidren eat the pizza.(active) The pizza is eaten by the children.(passive)

Rebeca opened the Windows.(active) The Windows was opened by her/Reneca(passive)

Lady Gaga has signed many atographs.(active) Many autographs have been signed by Lady Gaga-(passive)

He had played the guitar for a long time in same band.(active) The guitar had been played by him for a long time in same band.(passive)

The team will celebrate their victory tomorrow.(active)The victory will be celebrated by the team tomorrow. (passive)
