Active Shooter : An individual actively engaged in
killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated
area; in most cases, active shooters use firearms(s) and there is no
pattern or method to their selection of victims

ACTIVE SHOOTER NOTIFICATION
What is written: Crisis Plan Active Shooter Situation Notification:
Internal systems; CISCO IP Phones, EC2 Text Phone Messages, Fire Alarm (Voice Sounds) Notifications
Immediately implement your procedures.
What is said;“Attention, Attention “Active Shooter, Active Shooter”, Implement Lock Down Procedures
RESPONSE IF OUTSIDEIf an active shooter is OUTSIDE your building or room
Lock exterior doors, proceed to room that can be locked Lock all doors/windows/turn off lights Once in the room call 911/advise the dispatcher of:
Your location/name/number of people in the room Description of shooter/shooter’s actions/last location Remain in the room until advised by law enforcement Do not respond to unidentified/unrecognized voice
commands or fire alarms
If you have no contact in one hour, call 911 for instructions
ACTIVE SHOOTER RESPONSE
If an active shooter is INSIDE your building or room
Three Options you and your personnel MUST know;
Run (Evacuate)
Hide
Fight (Overpower)
RUN (EVACUATE) If you have an escape path, attempt to
evacuate:
Have an escape route/plan in mind if possible Evacuate whether others agree to follow or not Leave belongings behind and keep hands visible Do not attempt to move wounded people Call 911 when you are safe/can do so Follow instructions of campus security and police
officers
HIDE OUT Your hiding place should:
Prevent active shooter from entering hiding place Be out of active shooter’s view Protect you from weapons fired in your direction
(office with a closed and locked door) Not trap you/restrict your options for movement
Once in hiding place: Lock door/blockade door with heavy furniture Silence cell phone/turn off any source of noise (i.e., radios, televisions) Hide behind large items (i.e., cabinets, desks) Remain quiet
OVERPOWER (FIGHT) Take action against shooter as a last
resort Only when your life is in imminent danger
Actions to disrupt/incapacitate the shooter are:
Act aggressively against active shooter Throwing items at active shooter Improvising weapons from available items Yelling/Screaming
POLICE RESPONSE
Purpose is to stop the active shooter Proceed to where last shots were
heard Bypass injured personnel/move to
threat Arrive in small teams/armed with
rifles and handguns Shout commands/instruct individuals
to the ground for their safety
