ACROWLEADERSHIP

“enduring relationshipswith our customers

Acrow is founded upon three guiding principles: one; that we would be the bridgecompany that owners seek for solutions toboth simple and complex bridging problems;two; that we would create supportive and

that takes each project from the preliminarydesign through the commissioning of a bridge— and beyond; and, three, that we supplybridges that are engineered and manufac-tured to the highest quality standards for material and manufacturing workmanship.”

MODULAR TECHNOLOGY

crow Panel Bridges are acontemporary version of the

“Bailey Bridges” that were es-sential during WW II. BaileyBridges were assembled quicklywithout machinery, and yet theywere designed to carry heavytanks and other military equip-ment. Acrow’s Panel Bridgetrusses are lighter and strongerthan the original Bailey Bridgecomponents, and the uniqueAcrow orthotropic steel roadwaydeck panels distribute loadsmore efficiently across the widthof a bridge. The Acrow designsuse much higher grades of steeland are stronger. Acrow’s mod-ular technology facilitates fastdelivery of components andspeed of assembly. By cre-atively combining modularpieces, we can construct theperfect bridge for your needs,and have it up and open withindays to a few weeks.

Call Us When There’s an Emergency

The California Department ofTransportation (CALTRANS) faceddire circumstances when during aheavy January rain a major mudslide destroyed a portion of StateHighway 96 and washed it into theKlamath River. Acrow was imme-diately contacted by CALTRANSto design and supply a 250 foot(76.2 meter) Acrow Bridge. During the assembly of the AcrowBridge the weather continued tobe uncooperative and washedaway more of Highway 96. Acrow,working with CALTRANS madethe decision overnight to increasethe length of the clear span to 300feet (91 meters). Acrow mobilizedadditional bridge parts and hadthem delivered within a few daysso that CALTRANS could reopenHighway 96 very fast.

simple panel bridge is oftenthe best solution. By dou-

bling-up the panels, the modularunits can expand the reach of thebridge and add to its weight carry-ing capacity — making a perfect fitfor your particular project. Acrowhas also designed and built liftbridges that raise and lower,much like an elevator or lift in abuilding, to accommodate shiptraffic on a river, and helped ourclients build multi-use bridgesthat accommodate vehicles, trainsand pedestrians.

Quality Assurance

Quality workmanship and materials are vital elements of all Acrow Bridges. Customers areassured of this high quality because Acrow has incorporated quality assurance systemsthroughout the entire process.

First, Acrow's Bridges have been full scale tested in the laboratory at Lehigh University lo-cated in Pennsylvania, by the Government of Colombia, and by the US Army for load carry-ing capability. Second, Acrow's Bridges are manufactured in compliance with some of thehighest quality assurance standards available throughout the world. Two manufacturingquality standards that Acrow's Bridges are certified to be compliant with are ISO9001,and AISC for Simple Bridges (American Institute of Steel Construction). Acrow’s Bridgesare also compliant to the applicable bridge design codes used around the globe.

ARMY STRONGcrow’s prefabricated modularbridge system is a mainstay in

the arsenal of many military organi-zations around the world. The U.S.Army, the Australian Army, theCanadian Army, and U N PeaceKeeping Missions have adoptedAcrow Bridges as a Line of Com-munication Bridge system for logis-tical support in hostile and disasterrebuilding theatres. Additionally,Acrow Bridge systems have alsobeen procured by a number ofother military organizations in LatinAmerica, Africa, and Asia for a di-verse list of requirements.

The typical Acrow Military Bridgewill have the capability to supportvery heavy armored track vehicles,very heavy trucks and other regularvehicles. The Acrow bridge systemis readily portable and quicklyerected or disassembled.

Humanitarian AssistanceAcrow has exported its prefabri-cated modular bridges to over 50countries around the world.

In some developing countriesthere are many segments of thepopulation that do not have ac-cess to adequate and safe foodand water, medical support serv-ices and facilities, schools, and delivery routes for farm and otherlocal products. Restrictions are as simple as a river that cannot becrossed or a topography gap toodangerous to navigate.

The transportability of the AcrowBridge system is a major advan-tage in regions of the world whereaccess is the primary problem.Governmental agencies have deliv-ered and erected Acrow Bridgesinto remote locations resulting inthe opening of new routes ofingress and egress for significantgroups of the population. Accessi-bility is first and foremost a healthmaintenance issue and the open-ing of new routes permits the de-livery of medications for theprevention of diseases and allowsthe local residents the ability totravel to medical facilities. Sec-ondly, new routes of passage canmake it possible to deliver safefood and water, provide access toschools, and be a major boost tolocal commerce, which expands individual prosperity. Developingcountry political leaders are in-stalling Acrow Bridges because itis recognized how critical reliableinfrastructure is to a sustainableeconomic expansion.

Rental Bridges

Throughout the United States andCanada there are a significant number of bridges being replacedor rehabilitated all the time. Gov-ernment transportation agencieshave increasingly recognized thebenefits of using temporary bridgesto optimize construction issues during the project work schedule.

Many of the states and provincesmaintain their own inventory ofAcrow Bridges and will use thisequipment on selected projects.In addition, states and provinceswill direct contractors to procureand use temporary rental bridgesduring replacement or rehabilita-tion of an existing bridge project.

A temporary rental bridge:

• Enhances worker safety on aproject site

• Keeps traffic flowing so that commerce can expand

• Reduces inconveniences to thegeneral public

• Results in shorter constructiontimetables and lower costs

• Reduces impact on the environment

The number of Transportationagencies adopting the temporarybridge concept in lieu of “lanephasing” for bridge projects hasincreased significantly over the lastten years. Acrow maintains a verylarge stock of rental bridge equip-ment for all sizes of bridges thatare one, two and three lanes wideat its primary storage yard in NewJersey and elsewhere.

Acrow’s temporary bridge pack-age offering includes quick deliv-ery to most points in NorthAmerica, engineering drawings incompliance with specifications,technical advisors during erection,and delivery return upon comple-tion of the project.

}SUPPORTING AN EXISTING STRUCTURE

30 meter tall Acrow support structure is used to raise the roof of a new sports arena.

crow’s prefabricated modularbridge system is often used to

support existing structures such as buildings, bridges and deepearthen cuts.

A typical Acrow support system wouldlikely be rented and might support anexisting concrete bridge that is experi-encing some distress. Alternatively,the Acrow support system may becomprised of Acrow Bridge trussesstanding on end to make up a towerused to support another structure.

Very common uses for an Acrow support system would be supporting a railroad or highway bridge when a deficiency in the existing bridge wasdiscovered. Or, a set of vertical towers used to lift a roof truss intoplace for a new building.

Part of the Acrow support system product range includes the Acrow Superprop®.

This very unique product can supportupwards of 250 tons on a structurethat is only 500 mm in diameter andfreestanding with no braces to heightsof 12 meters. With appropriate brac-ing, the height is not limited.

than an ornamental pedestrianbridge. Acrow uses modular com-ponents in weather-resistant materi-als, that fit into the naturalenvironment. They are durable andattractive, constructed with decks ofweathering steel, wood or concrete.

Rugged pedestrian bridges spanrivers and ravines, aiding trade andtravel in less-than-hospitable envi-ronments, and introducing isolatedcommunities to the world beyondtheir natural boundaries.

The Bridge Builder

An old man, going a lone highway,Came, at the evening, cold and gray,To a chasm, vast, and deep, and wide,Through which was flowing a sullen tide.

The old man crossed in the twilight dim;

The sullen stream had no fears for him;

But he turned, when safe on the other side,

And built a bridge to span the tide.

"Old man," said a fellow pilgrim, near,

"You are wasting strength with building here;

Your journey will end with the ending day;

You never again must pass this way;

You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide —

Why build you the bridge at the eventide?"

The builder lifted his old gray head:

"Good friend, in the path I have come," he said,

"There followeth after me today

A youth, whose feet must pass this way.

This chasm, that has been naught to me,

To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.

He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;

Good friend, I am building the bridge for him."
