The key to proper operation of the ACP is CORRECTinstallation. It is VITALLY IMPORTANT that you install theACP unit between the telephone wiring demarcation pointand all station equipment (including KEY systems).

Before installing the ACP on (supplied) and plug it into a 110the telephone line, it is a good VAC, 50-60 Hz electrical outlet.idea to check for functionality Next, plug the power lineby “powering up” the unit. Take (attached to the transformer)the AC power transformer into the rear of the ACP, here:

To connect the ACP to thephone line, a RJ-31X modularwalljack will need to beinstalled on to the existingtelephone wiring in front of alltelephone/data equipment.

The installation for the RJ-31Xwill be identical to a standardalarm system reportingapplication. The followingdiagram denotes the properwiring of telephone cable to theRJ-31 X walljack.

The “Tip” and "Ring" labeling is important when attachingwire pairs to the numbered pins. There should be nodeviation from the diagram on page 5. Any deviation wouldresult in reverse polarity problems for the phone systemand data equipment used on the ACP. The “shorting bars”in the RJ-31 X walljack allow for continuation of voice serviceto the phone system when the 8-wire line cord is unplugged. Ifthe line cord is unplugged from the ACP and still left attachedto the walljack, calls will not get through to the phone system.

In this section, we will detailthe most common types ofwiring configurations found in abusiness location. The properinstallation point for theRJ-31X walljack in each wiringconfiguration is represented bya black box labeled “31X”.Installing the RJ-31X at thatpoint or before on the incomingphone line should guaranteecorrect operation of the ACPunit.

Single LineInstallation

RJ-31X placement in a single-line wiring configuration occursbefore all existing phoneequipment. The wiring config-uration is characterized by asingle incoming phone linewith single or multiple RJ-11walljacks.

Two Line Instal lation

RJ-31X installation on a twoline phone system is basicallythe same as a single lineinstallation, but with a fewexceptions.A) If “Rollover” is present,

install the RJ-31 X walljack

on the last line of the“Rollover” sequence.

B) If the existing wiring is in aRJ-14 configuration, the twophone lines will need to beseparated for installation ofthe RJ-31X walljack on thechosen line.

By utilizing a 4/8 pin seriesT-connector on a regularRJ-11 C walljack, the ACP canbe connected to the existingphone line without installing aRJ-31X walljack. The ACP linecord plugs into the 8-pin side ofthe T-connector and the phonecan be plugged into the 4-pinside.

Note: If more than one RJ-11 Cjack is present on the existingphone wiring, the 4/8 pin seriesT-connector should be inserted

on the first incoming walljackon the phone line. The phoneline wire running to the nextwalljack should be discon-nected at the first walljack. Thiswill ensure that all incomingcalls will be routed through theACP. If the additional RJ-11 Cwalljacks are needed for phoneextensions, simply crimp anRJ-11 C modular plug on theend of the disconnected lineand plug it in to the RJ-11 Cside of the 4/8 pin T-connector.

Functions/Operat ions Check

After installing the ACP on thephone line, it is wise to make a“functions check” of the unitand the phone system wiring.

To check the phone systemwiring:1. Check all telephones for dial

tone. If none is present, unplug the 8-wire line cord(which connects the ACP tothe phone line) from the RJ-31X walljack. If dial tone isreturned to the phones afterunplugging the line cord, check the line cordconnection at theLINE/DEVICE 1” port of theACP 3/5. Reconnect the linecord to the RJ-31X walljack.Dial tone should be returnedto the phone system.

2. If dial tone is present but youcan not dial out on the line, the phone line polarity may

need to be reversed. Thiscan be done by switchingthe “tip and ring” wires onthe incoming line at the RJ-31 X walljack.

3. After connecting thespecified data equipment tothe device ports at the rearof the ACP (DEVICE2/DEVICE 3 for the ACP3-DEVICE 2/DEVICE3/DEVICE 4/DEVICE 5 forthe ACP 5), the unit shouldbe tested for call routingcapability. This can be doneby contacting the centraloffice or location that will bepolling such equipment andgive them the location phonenumber and device selectioncodes (if known).

TO THE INSTALLER: If theACP 3 or 5 fails to operate atany time after installationplease contact the locationsupervisor or corporate MISManager.
