DRAFT OF DEMO FOR The following set of instructions are an optional replacement for the “Working Drawings + Bill of Materials + Exploded View”. This demo should help prepare the students for the Out of Class HW
Student + Instructor: Overall strategy for Working Drawings +BOM + Exploded View:
I. Retrieve existing Wind Turbine Assemble from the EEIC website
II. Create and save an EXPLODED view of the Wind Turbine Assembly
III. Extract the Exploded view into the OSU Title Block drawing template
IV. Add the required Balloons, BOM and Title block information
1. Retrieve and open the Wind_Turbine_Exploded.SLDDRW from the EEIC website and describe the Exploded View, the Balloons and the BOM and the Drawings for the non-standard parts.
2. Retrieve and open the Wind Parts from the EEIC website and open the Wind_Turbine.SLDASM file.
3. Click on Assembly/Exploder View, hold down the Ctrl key and sequentially select the Generator and the Turbine_Propeller as shown observing the multi-colored triad which indicates the possible directions for moving the selected parts.
4. Grab the green upward arrow of the triad with the mouse and pull the parts up to an approximate value of 122, releasing the mouse and hitting the Esc key to produce the orientation as shown.
5. Again click on Exploded View and select the Tower, grab the green triad with the mouse and pull the Tower up to an approximate value of 52, release the mouse and hit the Esc key to produce the orientation as shown.
6. Note that SolidWorks is keeping track of the various operations in the Display Tree.
7. Again click on Exploded View and select the Turbine_Propeller, grab the blue triad with the mouse and pull the Turbine_Propeller out to an approximate value of 116, release the mouse and hit the Esc key to produce the orientation as shown.
8. Save this Exploded View as Wind_Turbine_Exploded.SLDASM.
9. Open the OSU Title Block drawing template and save it as Wind_Turbine_Exploded.SLDDRW.
10. Click on View Layout / Model View, double left click on Wind_Turbine_Exploded.SLDASM, select Standard view Isometric, under Scale click on Use custom scale and set value as 1:4 and finally set Display Style as Shaded, placing the image as shown.
11. Under Annotation, select Balloon.
12. Sequentially click on each of the parts, pull the balloon to appropriate position and click again to lock in place. When finished, hit the Esc key to accept and produce the drawing shown.
13. Under Annotation / Tables select Bill of Materials (BOM).
14. Click on the drawing near the image, click on the green arrow in the dialog box to the left and place the BOM as shown and click again to lock in position. Move the cursor to the “C” in the BOM and left click to select the empty column, right click and select Delete / Column.
15. Readjust the position of BOM by first hovering over the table with the mouse and then grabbing the Plus sign with arrowheads in the upper left corner of the table and dragging the table to the lower left corner as shown.
16. Fill in the Title block to complete the Exploded Assembly Drawing containing the Exploded View, The Balloons and the Bill of Materials.
