The Vision 2020 for the auto componentindustry delineates that the industry could bewell over three to four times of its current sizeof USD 26 billion and scale up to USD 110billion by 2020.

This will be driven by strong growth of vehicleproduction and consumption in India.

ACMA has been instrumental in driving initiatives

that help component manufacturers enhance theircompetitiveness and address their issues. To helpthe industry scale the targets of the Vision 2020,the ACMA bouquet of services is being further fine-tuned to immediately address the following:

Broadening the scope of cluster-basedinitiatives to include wider array ofoperational issues faced by componentmanufacturers. Just like the quality cluster,

ACMA is contemplating to set-up clustersfor improving throughput, productivity, marketing (especially in export markets),

and logistics operations. Two new clusterprograms on Engineering Cluster and NewProduct development are on the anvil.

Promoting the Indian auto componentindustry domestically as well asinternationally to make it more attractiveto investors. Raising capital would be thekey for scaling operations. Globally, privatecapital is looking for attractive investmentdestinations and many industries are vyingfor the same.

Creating a link with education institutes

to help align the curricula with industryrequirements. Such an effort would helpboth research and development needs anddevelop graduates that are more in-line

    with industry's skill requirements.

    Special Services for SMEs

The Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sectorhas emerged as a highly vibrant and dynamicsector of the Indian auto component industry.Over two-thirds of ACMA membership falls inthe Small and Medium category.

SMEs play a crucial role in providing significantemployment opportunities at a comparativelylow capital cost than larger industries and arecomplementary to larger members as ancillaryunits.

The fast changing global economic scenario, while on one hand has thrown open not onlymany opportunities for the SMEs, it has also onother hand, put an obligation to upgrade thecompetencies and skills of the sector to meet the

growing demand with newer products in shortertime.

To help SMEs evolve in the fast changing globalscenario and to meet the overall automotiveindustry's target as envisaged in the Vision 2020,the ACMA SME Committee is working in afocussed manner to address the issues of thesector. Some of the specific programs for thebenefit of SMEs include:
