Style -BRUTALISM & REGIONALISMBuildings were conceived in a strict modernist vocabulary.He used concrete frame structure in filled with panels and plastered in a fine stone grit finish.He mostly used the locally available materials.His works are based on modern architecture of West, but also preserves Indian tradition.

National science center Delhi (1991)

Plot area : 7000 sq.m.The building seems to have a simple & efficiently designed structure.It has a functional approach in its layout.

The building accommodates a complex of workshops, library, lecture halls and observatory.

This building is visually appealing and unimposing.

It has a large grand flight of steps on its entrance.

Doodhsagar dairymehsana (1973) The natural slope of the

site is utilized to advantage of multi-level processing system.Walls and structures are more theatrical than technical in their function and supporting.

The equipment is framed in a 7 sq. m concrete grid. on exterior the ventilation points are expressed as large shafts .

the larger public spaces including reception, other departmental offices are at lower floors. exclusive functions such as private offices and meeting rooms are grouped at the top of building.

NEHRU SCIENCE CENTREMUMBAI (1987)

Spreads across a sloped marshy land covering about 8acres.Naturally sloping in different directions.Natural topography of site is used in form of split-levels.

Ventilation shafts has been used to enhance the character of building.

Grey stone, grit plaster, grey cement panels are used for low maintenance.

The building looks interesting when viewed from all angles. vertical and horizontal grooves are introduced. elevational features and shafts been used to add interest.

First priority was given to functions and social values They rejected symmetry.Kanvinde has mostly designed research and educational areas. He liked to reveal the internal functions in a building ( office block, walkway, auditorium ) as separate masses. Dull, neutral colors are used . vertical volumes, skylights, ventilation shafts are most common elements in his works.
