Page 16

Page 17: Achal Project

HCL INFOSYSTEMS believes in the Total Quality Management philosophy as a means for continuous improvement, total employee participation in quality improvement and customer satisfaction. Its concept of quality addresses people, processes and products.

Over the last 32 years, it has adapted to newer and better Quality standards that helped us effectively tie Quality with Business Goals, leading to customer and employee satisfaction.

Quality at HCL Infosystems Ltd

The history of structured quality implementation in HCL Infosystems began in the late 1980s with the focus on improving quality of its products by using basis QC tools and Failure Reporting and Corrective Active Systems (FRACAS). It also employed concurrent engineering practices including design reviews, and rigorous reliability tests to uncover latent design defects.

In the early 90s, the focus was not merely on the quality of products but also the process quality systems. Their manufacturing unit at NOIDA was certified initially to ISO 9002:1994 by Bureau Veritas Certification in 1994 and later on to ISO 9001:1994 in 1997. As of now, all our manufacturing units are certified by Bureau Veritas Certification as per ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001: 2004

In early 1995, a major quality initiative was launched across the company based on Philip B. Crosby's methodology of QIPM (Quality Improvement Process Management). This model was selected to because it considered the need and commitment by an organization to improve but more importantly, the individual's need towards better quality in his personal life.

Under their Quality Education System program, they train our employees on the basic concepts and tools of quality. A number of improvement projects have been undertaken by their employees, whereby process deficiencies and bottlenecks are identified, and Corrective Action Projects (CAPs) are undertaken. This reduces defect rates and improves cycle times in various processes, including personal quality.

They have received MAIT's 'Level II recognition for Business Excellence' for their initiatives in the Information Technology Industry, adding another commendation to their fold. MAIT's Level II recognition is based on the 'European Foundation for Quality Management' (EFQM), for gaining quality leadership and business competitiveness.

Their certifications / awards in 2003 include ISO 9001-2000 by Bureau Veritas Certification for our Info Structure Services and award of First Prize by ELCINA (Electronic Component Industries Association) for Quality, 2002-03. The ELCINA award criterion considers two aspects. (1) Enablers (Leadership & Management commitment, Resource Management, Product Realization, Measurement Analysis & Improvement) and Results (Product Quality, Customer / Stake holder satisfaction , Business results).

The tryst for continuous quality improvement is never-ending in HCL Infosystems. They always strive to

Page 17

Page 18: Achal Project

maintain high quality standards, which help us fulfill our mission to provide world-class information technology solutions and services, to enable our customers to serve their customers better.

“MISSION JAGRITI” OR “MISSION CYBER POWER”

Hcl has recently launched a nationwide exclusive program "Mission Cyber Power", an initiative to provide HCL Desktops and Laptops at special discounted prices for Armed Forces personnel and their families with easy payment options in collaboration with State Bank of India.

With this move, the company aims to capture more market share by making PCs more affordable to the people. This is not the first time that HCL has joined hands with a bank for such a scheme. Earlier also there were similar tie-ups, but they were restricted only to a particular territory. But now with the present partnering, the company’s approach is more structured and looks to go national with PC financing.

This new venture will not only benefit the company, but also their partners since the sales are expected to go up, thus giving them good business.

GAIN FOR THE CUSTOMER

There are many benefits for the customer in this scheme, the major being availability of computers at a discounted price.

It is especially helpful for those who have less salary as they can avail this facility at a very affordable rate.

The key benefits of 'Mission Cyber Power' are:

Discounts upto Rs.4000/- on various desktop and laptop models Door step delivery anywhere in India Scheme applicable to both serving & ex-servicemen Pre-installed with genuine Windows 7 Operating System software with License and Media 24*7 helpline and product lifetime service support Payment in Easy Installments financed by State Bank of India No processing fee for loans and hassle-free documentation 2 years extended warranty MC Afee Antivirus free for 3 years Rs 900 discount on Tata Photon Internet data card.

HOW HCL MAKES PROFIT OUT OF THIS SCHEME No dealers so no outflow of commission No material stocking. Manufacturing on order. Sales increase due to availability of laptops at lower price. Increase in market share

Page 25

Page 26: Achal Project

Increase in demand due to excellent targeting. No advertisement cost Very less promotion cost

HOW SBI MAKES PROFIT Interest on personal loan is higher than the rate of interest on any other loan. Rate of interest here is

14.5% p.a for 3 years.

Increase in account holders-When the defense personnel wanted greater personal loan amount i.e. more than the price of the laptop then they required to have a dsp account in the same branch from where their loan was getting sanctioned. Hence many of them got their accounts transferred to this branch.

In order to extend the benefits of the program to all defense personnel, Hcl had requested the concerned authorities to allow them to carry out certain awareness programs and display certain posters and banners for this offer at prominent locations within their command area. In the process, they would also like to showcase their range of desktop PCs and laptops to the defense community which would help them understand the benefits of the products and the program better. Hcl would carry out all such activities at mutually agreed convenient time and locations.

Hcl sincerely believed that all Defense Personnel and their families would benefit immensely from the program and the high value proposition that accompanies it. Hence, they requested the authorities to kindly grant them permission for the same and help them integrate the latest technology into the lifestyle of the defense personnel and bring value to the community.

Conclusion

According to the research and analysis done on this project i could conclude by saying that this project is a great success.

Page 59

Page 60: Achal Project

HCL has done excellent targeting. There is high demand of ME brand HCL computers in this segment. Tie-up with SBI has helped customers in easy financing. SBI is a trusted name and people easily go for loan from here.

It is equally beneficial for both SBI and HCL Infosystems Ltd as they both are making high profits from this scheme.

Through this project I could conclude that since there is high demand for this scheme HCL has a lot of scope to increase its market share and sales if more awareness and promotion strategies are adopted. It can also increase its sales by slight changes in its schemes in frequent intervals.

On the loan approval and disbursement part it can be seen that it is very Profitable for SBI as they are getting quite a high interest as compared to other loans and there is almost no risk of recovery of the loan. The EMIs are being deducted from the defense salary package accounts which cannot be defaulted as it is under the Central Government.

Therefore according to me since total value is increasing hence this tie-up should continue with continuous improvement in the scheme to attract more sales.

Recommendations

Page 60

Page 61: Achal Project

On sales part

HCL can increase the customer base within the same segment through more promotion and awareness campaigns.

The scheme should be continuously revised and new changes should be brought to attract more customers.

After sales service should be further improved. Some of the stock can be kept for display so that customers can get a feel of the product. Since low salary package defense personnel’s were the major customers who had very little

idea of the usage of computers hence a small initiative can be taken from the company to provide computer education to these defense people so that they can use the product in a better manner. This will result in lesser issues and complains from the customers.

Attractive gifts should be offered on festive seasons.

On loan approval and disbursement part

The time taken to disburse the loan should be further reduced. Once the loan is approved it should not take time to disburse the loan.

The repayment period can be reduced from 3 years to 2 years. It can help in faster recovery of loan.

More awareness about this scheme among the employees of SBI.
