Your site(s)

Login:Go to http://cms.nmsu.edu and login using your NMSU e-mail username and password assigned to you by the ACES CMS system administrator([email protected]).

Change your password:Once you are logged in you can change your password. Use the Change Password link on left navigation.

Recover Your Password:Should you loose or forget your password, use the Recover Password func-tion in the CMS main page. Fill in your e-mail address in the e-mail field and select Recover. A new password will be e-mailed to you. You can then login and change your password. For a more secure password use a combination of letters and numbers.

Sites you have permission to work on are located on Your Sites page. See link in left navigation when logged in.

If you have access to one site you will see your

pages listed.

Multiple sites:If you have access to mul-tiple sites, your sites will

be listed. Select a site (blue link) to get to the Page and Sidebar page for that site.

Pages and Sidebar

Left Navigation: Move through the CMS system through the left navigation.

Pages and Sidebar Files and Images Preview Site and Publish Site.

In the System section of the left navigation are links to get the Your Sites, the Change Password function and the Log Out button.

Pages and SidebarYou can Add, Delete, and rearrange (Drag) pages in

this menu.

The Indent and Unindent controllers allow you to in-dent pages in your left navi-gation panel.

Navigation Header Add Navigation Header creates a red headline

on your site’s left navigation panel. Navigation headers are useful in organizing your left navigation panel. Head-ers are not links.

Add an External Link:With Add an External Link you can create links

in your left navigation panel that link to other web sites.

Add a Page:Select Add a Page at the bottom of the Pages and

Sidebar work area.

Page Settings:Page Title: This title will ap-pear in the page address bar of your browser.

Navigation Display: You can choose to show the page in the left navigation panel or not.

Navigation Title: This title will appear in your sites left navigation.

Keywords & Short Descrip-tion: Text placed in these fields will enhance your sites searchability when using search engines (i.e. Google, Yahoo)

Page Template: Select a tem-plate for you new page. Use Document level for all sub pages in a site.

Show Advanced Options:This screen allows you to change the Page File-

name.

Image and File management:Documents and Images are managed in the Files and Images link (left navigation panel).

Go to Files and Images link in left navigation.

Note: 4MB is the maximum file size for any one file. Re-view Valid File Types just be-low the File and Title fields.

Only these files type may be uploaded into the system (convert .docx files to .doc files prior to uploading).

Select the Browse button and navigate to your pre-pared file on your machine. Choose your file and select Open (MacIntosh) or Choose (PC). Fill in the Title field and select Upload file.

Your image or document will now be available to place on your page.

Advanced photo options: You can resize your images within the CMS.

Select the Edit button next to an image.

You can resize to 150 (mug shots), 250 (article photos) or 350 (detail shots) pixels using the auto -size feature.

You can also resize the im-ages width, height or reduce to a percentage of the original using a value of your own (See under Advanced Resize at bot-tom of page).

Always reduce the images size, rather than enlarge.

Home pageYour site comes with a home (index.html) page.

This is your sites main page.

Arrange your pages by using the Drag button (click and drag).

Click on home in your Pages and Sidebar menu page.

Pages are built with Para-graph types.

Paragraphs are arranged on the page by using the Drag button.

Add a Paragraph typeGo to the add a paragraph type pull down menu.

The menu contains the features you will build your page with.

Header: Select Header and se-lect the green plus sign

to add the header.

Choose Edit.

Select a header size and type your head-

line text and select Save changes.

Use Header Level One for your top headline, Header Level Two for the second headline on your page, and so forth.

Feature Scope selectors are outlined in the advanced section (page 17).

Easy Text:The Easy Text paragraph type enables you to

format text without using XHTML.

Simple easy text tags enable you to format

text and create hyperlinks.

See the Help with tabs (Text, Links, Lists and Im-ages) above the text field for examples.

Contact Information: The Contact Information paragraph type is a pre-

formatted module for your sites contact information.

Link to Internal page:You can link to pages within your site with this

paragraph type.

Select a page within your site and type link text (Page to link to field).

Additional text can be added to describe the page in the Description field.

Link to external page: You can link to pages outside your site with this

paragraph type.

Type the site’s link in the URL to link to field (be sure to include the “http://”) and type link name in the link text field.

Place an image: Select the Images para-graph type from the add a paragraph pull dow menu.

Select Edit. You will see thumbnails of the images you have uploaded to your site.

Choose an image using the radio button next to the image.

You can position the im-age left, right or center with the Positioning pull down menu.

Rotating Image: You can rotate two or more im-ages by using the Rotating Im-age paragraph type. The photos will rotate upon refresh or each time the page is visited.

Rotating Images works best if the images are the same size, especially if the images are sur-rounded by text or other im-ages.

downloadDownload: The Download paragraph type is for creating a link to a docu-ment/file you have uploaded into your site.

The word(s) you type in the Download Name field will be your link text. Browse through the File to download menu to locate your document.

The optional Download De-scription allows you to further describe the file you are link-ing to.

xhtml: The XHTML paragraph type accepts content marked up in XHTML.

Advance users can use markup to create tables, for example, within the page.

RSS feed: RSS feeds can be linked to a page with The RSS feed fea-ture. Paste the URL into the RSS Source field and save.

Preview a Page Preview your page by se-lecting Preview in the up-

per right corner of your page.

Return to Edit Mode: Return to Edit mode by selecting Edit.

Before you Publish:To Preview your site select Preview Site in the left navi-gation. You can distribute the URL from the previewed site for others to review the site or specific pages

Publish: Your content will not go live until you Publish it.

Select the Publish Site link in the left navigation.

The Finished rendering site page will pop up after Pub-

lishing or Previewing. Select go check the site link to review the published site.

Featured items: Featured items allows you to create hyperlinks within

your site from Headers.

In XHTML, they are referred to as anchors.

When you place a Featured items paragraph type on a

page it will gather and display the headlines you have desig-nated with Featured Scope in the Header Paragraph type

Featured on site gathers head-lines/links from your entire web site.

Features on page gathers head-lines/links from a page.

Place a Features item para-graph type where you want the links to appear (on your home page or at the top of a long internal page).

Columns

Columns: The columns feature makes it possible to arrange content in columns without the use of XHTML.

This example illustrates where to place which column action items to get a two column layout.
