non-profit group programS

“As one of the organizers for a group of 150-plus that go rafting annually, I was very impressed with the services that ACE provided. With any large group like this, there will be some hiccups. Being our first time with ACE, I think you all worked hard to get things right for our group.

Overall, I have heard nothing but positive comments about your staff, guides and facilities. To be honest, we had not considered ACE before this season, but now I think there are at least 150 more satisfied customers. There is already talk of the next, even bigger, trip with ACE.”

Situated on 1,500 acres and bordering the parklands of the New River Gorge National River, ACE Adventure Resort is a unique place where new ideas are discovered and friendships flourish. It’s an inspirational landscape of wild forests and ancient rivers that will stimulate your team to change and grow.

Our self-contained facility offers a mix of adventure-based “tools” that will help your group focus on teamwork, goal setting, commitment, and trust — instrumental for any group to be effective and powerful. Whether your objective is to accomplish specific goals or simply build stronger relationships, ACE has the resources to get you headed in the right direction.

growing the individual makes a stronger teamACE’s programs are an exciting, creative and fun way to enhance your group’s motivation and camaraderie through shared experiences. All of our activities can be adapted as necessary to meet your group’s needs and goals — to offer appropriate opportunities for learning, personal growth and positive change. Activities are based on individual skill levels, physical abilities and psychological or emotional readiness. We believe in “challenge by choice” — we support participants as they find their comfort zones and guide them to venture further. It is this commitment to each and every individual of your group that makes a stronger team.

engage — empower — achieveExperiential learning involves an immersion into structured experiences combined with meaningful reflection as a way to maximize learning. It is this concept that we learn best by doing and then discussing our experiences. Learning to develop together as a team

is something that takes hard work, concentration, leadership and sometimes a little guidance. Our trained facilitators are professionals in the field of experiential learning and will guide you to set goals, analyze impediments and celebrate success. shared adventures build life-long friendshipsACE has the resources to set you on the right path. In our fourth decade of leading diverse groups (youth groups, school programs, church groups, civic and business organizations, athletic teams, fire departments and many others), we have learned that when people remove themselves from their everyday surroundings and experience new things together, amazing things happen. We offer the widest range of “tools” (whitewater rafting, mountain biking, team challenge events, an obstacle course, rock climbing, zip-line canopy tours, paintball and even ATV tours) that can be customized to your needs. These one and half-day adventures are great by themselves or can be combined into multi-day retreats or a weeklong summer camp.

engaging groupsThe unique learning environment of the great outdoors can engage groups and energize them into action unlike any other experience. It’s a setting where each person can discover his potential, learn to work together as a team, and prepare to face real world challenges.

While every group that comes to ACE enjoys fresh mountain air, beautiful vistas, and a myriad of activities, everyone has different needs. Whatever you’re looking to accomplish, ACE can custom design a retreat especially for you. To start, each program is built around a framework of sAfETy both physically and mentally for each individual. from there, our programs and activities always have one theme in common — experiencing an outrageously good time!

youth & student groupsboy scouts

“Building Tomorrow’s Leaders” — at ACE this fundamental concept can be brought to life and developed among the members of your Scout Troop. Earn a Scouting Merit Badge or bring your troop on an ACE experiential adventure for a unique bonding experience. The outdoors is a great medium through which an increased level of agility, physical coordination, and a sense of personal confidence are developed. Come for a visit, and see the newest destination for the Boy scouts of America National scouting Reserve - The summit!

girl scoutsThrough specially selected activities, your girls will discover their potential to excel as individuals, learn fundamental skills to become leaders in their communities, and understand how to participate thoughtfully in the world we share. Come to ACE, and provide your troop with an unforgettable experience that will be the foundation of their success and independence.

athletic teamsIt’s a win, win scenario when an athletic team shares an experience through “goal oriented” adventure programming – just a few days in the outdoors can change the character and cohesion of a team for the better. These programs teach athletes how to cooperate with others, advocate for themselves and bond with peers. Whether you are working toward a championship or rewarding the team for winning the championship, ACE is the place for winners!

YMCA’s & youth groupsWhen an adventure is shared, it is often so powerful, it can transform a group of diverse individuals into a close-knit group of life-long friends. Whether your group is interested in tackling the New River Gorge together or wants a challenge rock climbing, each person will leave ACE with an enhanced understanding of themselves and one another.

school orientation & return programsColleges and universities strive to instill concepts and skills that are intended for use far beyond the classroom

walls. Applicable abilities such as awareness, critical thinking, leadership, problem solving and goal achievement that are necessities in today’s world, can often be developed when they are experienced in a “real life” adventure environment. Because ACE’s canyon classroom offers a variety of adventures to fit your needs, we can design a fresh, effective program for your students with long lasting results.

adult groupssocial & civic organizationsThe activities and amenities at the ACE Resort have been designed to provide you with a plethora of options in one place. Whether you’re planning to incorporate fun with learning or a morning meeting, the variety and flexibility at the facility make us a perfect fit to plan your best outing yet.

religious groups Whether you’re looking for a way to reenergize your church group or simply need time to fellowship, an outdoor experience shared together can create a lifetime of memories. Choose to participate as a team to build relationships or offer free time to play at ACE’s Inflatable Water Park. Whatever the choice, outdoor adventures strengthen connections and build trust that few other experiences can achieve.

professional non-profitsSharing a great outdoor adventure outside the “walls” of an organization can be a jumpstart to learning and change in your organization. Our facilitators can introduce themes that bring individuals together, build stronger teams and ultimately foster understanding necessary to achieve a win-win connection. Leadership development, power of communication, and teambuilding are just a few of the themes. Of course, all programs are built with one critical goal in mind – a positive return on your investment!

military, firefighters & police departmentsACE understands high-stress environments such as these demand teamwork and trust along with a heightened sense of personal responsibility. In ACE’s “hands-on” adventure program, our professional instructors set up challenges and problem-solving situations to teach shared leadership concepts, resolve trust issues and develop critical communication skills.

new for 2010Change is good thing, especially when it comes to new activities at ACE Adventure Resort. We are always looking for the next big adventure that will take our guests to new heights and exciting places. In fact, we were just featured on the Travel Channel as North America’s Largest Adventure Resort. We believe we are living up to the title and continue to exceed it. Our 1,500 acres of activities and lodging ensure that we can break the mold on any vacation expectation, and 2010 is expected to be another banner year.

zip-line canopy tour - expansion ACE’s Zip-line Canopy Tour always leaves guests wanting more. Now we have it - with the addition of more lines, our tour will be twice as long for twice the thrills. We will zip you longer, further and faster than ever before. With the wind in your hair, expect to reach speeds up to 35 miles per hour as you fly through the New River Gorge on this wild adventure! So now at ACE, more is more! COMING SPRING 2010.

mountain globing Welcome to the ACE-mosphere - a new dimension on earth where those with enough curiosity for the far-out and unimaginable can explore ACE’s grassy slopes inside a big, bouncing ball. OK, it may feel more like the world of a hamster instead of the lunar module, but this is your chance for something truly unique. Visualize yourself inside an 11-foot clear inflated globe. You can ride with a friend or roll solo. We promise it will make your “what I did on my summer vacation” stories truly extraordinary. COMING SUMMER 2010.

disc golf course You may be asking yourself, “What is Disc Golf“? As kids, we all played Frisbee™, right? Just combine it with the rules of golf, and you have one of ACE’s newest activities.

Our wooded course surrounds the 40-acre Mountain Top Campground and is designed for all ages and skill levels. The range of each “hole” is 180 to 250 feet. Each hole will have a set score or par - the goal will be to complete all of them in as few “throws” as possible. It’s a perfect year-round activity for friends and families to get together and enjoy the outdoors. Give it a try - we think it will fit you to a “tee“. Another ACE “hole in one COMING SUMMER 2010.

bridge walk Everyone loves walking on the New River Gorge Bridge on October’s Bridge Day. What if you could walk the largest single span steel arch bridge in the western hemisphere any time?

This year you’re in luck - 2010 brings the introduction of Bridge Walk to everyone. Beneath the road and built within the arch of the bridge, there is a 24-inch catwalk that spans its entire length. Visitors can finally traverse the 3,030-foot length of the New River Gorge Bridge while suspended 850-feet above the river. Don’t look down! COMING SPRING 2010.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the Waterpark. The zip-line was my favorite, though the slide and inflatables were great fun, too. My younger daughter especially enjoyed doing the paddle boats and kayaking with older family members. My son enjoyed the chess. We were impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the beach area.

Your commitment to excellence at ACE makes it a wonderful place. We hope to return.”

easy claSS i-iii+ rapidSVenture down the Upper New River Gorge. It’s a magical experience for all ages with easy, beginner-friendly rapids, deep-water pools for fun and games, and an enchanted canyon more than 1,000 feet deep. A professional guide in every raft fills the day with stories of local history and lore, river antics, and good times for all. A delicious grilled riverside lunch is included on this full-day rafting adventure.

Try a one or two-person ducky (inflatable kayak) to step up the excitement. Rafters and duckiers can switch throughout the day.

exciting claSS ii-iV+ rapidSLooking for a stable ride but still want roller-coaster rapid fun and unmatched canyon scenery? Try the Lower New River Gorge in a 16’/8+ person raft. This larger boat size provides a milder experience by minimizing impact and giving you a better chance of staying “high and dry” all day long.

For those who prefer the river less traveled, jump on the summer Gauley Intermediate (min. age: 13). Depending on water level, we take rafts and/or funyaks (inflatable kayaks) to maneuver the many slots, drops and rapids of this remote canyon.

high-adventure claSS iii-V rapidSSeveral decades ago, ACE pioneered a smaller, more agile raft to “pump up the fun volume.” The 14-footer and all its maneuverability quickly became the raft of choice!

The Lower New River Gorge in a 14’/6+ person raft will have your adrenaline pumping. Brace yourself for tumbling waves, crashing surf and the majesty of America’s oldest river canyon - it’s the best spring and summer rafting in the east.

Looking for even more? The Lower Gauley (min. age: 12) during fall dam release is jam-packed with rapids, steep drops and endless wave-trains. It’s our most challenging trip for first-timers.

world-class claSS iV-V+ rapidSWhen the world around is preparing for the chill of autumn, ACE is “cranking up the heat” in time for Fall Gauley Season. Powerful, relentless whitewater ranks the fall Upper Gauley as world-class and is the benchmark by which other runs are measured. From our veteran guides to our exclusive Sweet’s Falls lunch site, ACE offers the best Upper Gauley trip around!

But don’t stop there… catch the summer Gauley Advanced trip. Using super small rafts and funyaks (inflatable kayaks) to navigate this tight, technical river channel, it’s perfect for those on a whitewater quest.

summer whitewater learning programsGot a penchant for whitewater? This is kayak country, and there’s no better place to find rapids galore, fun surfing waves and deep-water canyons with magnificent beauty. It’s the New and Gauley rivers, and they are both in ACE’s backyard!

With our guided programs and whitewater instruction courses, you can kick it up a notch. Tackle the beginner-friendly rapids of the Upper New or the technical chutes and drops on the summer Gauley while learning techniques and river reading skills to maneuver these river currents with confidence.

“It was so really nice to be able to experience such power and mystery within a safety net of knowledge, respect and teamwork, and I think a successful experience like “the Gauley” really indicates that your guides have a deep understanding of the river, inherent kindness, and a thorough knowledge of technical aspects of navigation.”

fall gauleysimply put, the Gauley is the stuff of legends! On 23 select days this september and October, the U.s. Army Corps of Engineers will “pull the plug” on summersville Dam. What happens to the Gauley River as millions of gallons of water boil up from below the dam is a metamorphosis only those who have been there can even begin to describe.

The rush is intense with more than 70 rapids, 23 miles and two river sections. Combine that with the Gauley’s legendary wave-trains, steep drops, house-sized boulders and majestic wilderness scenery, and no wonder they rank it and its action-packed whitewater 7th on the planet. With that kind of reputation, it just makes sense you don’t want to miss this one!

zip-line & climbing adventuresCapture a bird’s eye view high atop the cliff-lines of the New River Gorge. ACE’s private Zip-Line Canopy Tour and Guided Climbing Clinics are the perfect gateway to this wild and wonderful setting. Both adventures are tucked away along the rock walls edging ACE’s 1,500-acre property. What does this mean to you? When we take you out for an afternoon in the backcountry, it’s truly a wild experience where you have the opportunity to soar above the skyline, scale towering rock walls or rappel down cliff faces few have ever seen. Whether you choose to climb to the top for a breathtaking view or zip through the forest by cables, you’ll be soaring to new heights with ACE.

“We took advantage of the two day Raft and Rocks package and with the help of God’s hand with gorgeous weather, we were blown away with the spectacular scenery and personal touch that we received. The rappelling and rock climbing trip was equally as much fun “as the rafting”. The kids all really liked the guides. They took extra time to spend with my 9-year old son who was very frightened of the height of the rappel. Even though he didn’t complete the rappel, our guide calmed him down and really made him feel like it was ok. We all had a blast! ”

bridge walk, Atv trail riding & paintball warsOn first blush, it wouldn’t seem like a stroll under the New River Gorge Bridge, paintball wars and ATV trail riding would have much in common. These are live action adventures sure to get you addicted to the great outdoors.

Whatever your preference, we promise it will be an action-packed day with a whole lot of goose bumps thrown in for good measure.

team challenge coursesACE’s Adventure-Based Teambuilding program is an exciting, creative and fun way to enhance your group’s motivation and camaraderie through shared experiences. All of our programs can be adapted as necessary to meet your group’s needs and goals - to offer appropriate opportunities for learning, personal growth and positive change.

Activities are based on individual skill levels, physical abilities and psychological or emotional readiness. We follow a philosophy of “challenge by choice” that empowers participants to set personal goals and allows them to build upon their own comfort zones. As facilitators, we hope that every time a participant tries an activity, they will take one step further, eventually completing the activity in its entirety. It is this commitment to each and every individual of your group that has distinguished our programs from other similar efforts.
