Program Objectives ( From Delphi Study)

• Vision Statement. The BGSU Engineering Technology Program aspires to be a preferred option of students seeking careers in technology and to be a prime source for corporate recruiters seeking highly qualified and motivated graduates.



Objective 1. The Engineering Technology Program at Bowling Green State University aspires to prepare professionals who are proficient in the knowledge and skills of engineering technology and are able to demonstrate these in the corporate environment.

Bowling Green State University aspires to prepare professionals who are adept at working in teams and are proficient in social skills to perform effectively in the global technological corporate environment and community.

Draft Program Outcomes • Learning Outcome 1: ENGT graduates from BGSU will be capable of

applying principles of mathematics and applied science to perform technical calculations and solve technical problems of the types commonly encountered in engineering technology professional experiences. (Consistent with TAC/ABET Outcomes a, b, f);

• Learning Outcome 2: ENGT graduates from BGSU will be capable of identifying, formulating, and presenting creative solutions to technical problems within the engineering technology profession. (Consistent with TAC/ABET Outcome d, f);

• Learning Outcome 3: ENGT graduates from BGSU will be capable of performing analytical measurements in a laboratory setting through the use of scientific instrumentation, analyze acquired data using state-of-the-art statistical software, and write technical reports based on experimental results explaining the significance of the findings. (Consistent with TAC/ABET Outcomes a, b, c, f, g);


Draft Program Outcomes • Learning Outcome 4: ENGT graduates from BGSU will achieve

ethical and professional standards of behavior based on knowledge of contemporary issues and demonstrate expertise in critical thinking and decision making relative to a global society. (Consistent with TAC/ABET Outcomes i, j, k);

• Learning Outcome 5: ENGT graduates from BGSU will understand the need for maintaining and improving professional and technical skills throughout their careers. (Consistent with TAC/ABET Outcome h, k) (Certification)

• Learning Outcome 6: ENGT graduates from BGSU will be able to communicate and function effectively in diverse, multi-disciplinary teams and others to achieve the goals of the organization. (Consistent with TAC/ABET Outcomes e, g, j, k).


Next Steps

1. Fine tune the outcomes based on the objectives (Fall 2009)

2. Start modifying our syllabi to reflect these student learning outcomes

3. Create a system of assessing these outcomes ( 2009 – 2010)

4. Create a system of translating the course outcomes into program outcomes. (Fall 2009)

5. Meet with coop program to set-up a system for assessment of outcomes 4, 5 and 6. (Fall 2009 or spring 2010)

6. This may require change in our coop reporting and will require survey work.

7. We will also need help from the advisory committee. (Spring 2010)
