Profile for this Growing Profession Accounting is a language of business and finance, and an essential foundation of managerial success. The regulatory changes implemented by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, together with a wide range of new opportunities, have turned accounting into one of today’s fastest-growing career paths.

Accounting and finance professionals find themselves vying for lucrative career positions and high-level opportunities with companies of all sizes, in virtually every industry. To help make your credentials stand out – and move your career ahead – DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management offers a choice of master’s degree programs in the accounting and finance fields.

Overview of Roles and Responsibilities As an accounting or financial management professional, your job duties will encompass a wide range of traditional responsibilities, such as working with data and information technology services, financial reporting, budget preparation, and regulatory compliance or may take you into new and exciting areas like forensic accounting and security risk analysis.

As an accountant, you will typically be involved in accounting, auditing and consulting for corporations, governments, nonprofit organizations or even individuals. Responsibilities include domestic and international accounting; internal auditing; environmental accounting including compliance claims and disputes; forensic accounting; and computer fraud identification and tracking, especially in e-commerce.

As a financial manager, your traditional activities will include analyzing information and making recommendations to businesses and individuals to help them with investment decisions. Responsibilities include financial planning, insurance and retirement planning, commercial banking, capital finance and real estate planning. Other opportunities include portfolio management, investor relations and pension fund management and analysis.

Discover the Keller Advantage Whether you are looking for a way to enter the world of accounting and finance or are preparing for the CPA or CFA® exam, a master’s degree from Keller can give you the professional edge.
