Start Your Own Swap Meet BusinessIn these tough economic times people are looking for alterna-tives ways to raise income. Now is a great time to start a swap meet business whether to sell new products or used items. Swap meets work well for small business because of the low space rent and the large crowds they attract. Depending on your product or service, you will need to obtain all applicable licenses. Vendors selling new or hand-crafted merchandise must obtain a Cali-fornia Seller’s Permit, free to state residents. Those selling used merchandise more than twice in a calendar year must also obtain this permit. Items such as furniture and bulk food require additional permits.

All vendors conducting business within the city of San Diego must also obtain a Business Tax Certificate after selling six times in a calendar year.
