DESCRIPTION
Report issued following an explosion in a home in Woodbridge, Va., on Feb. 7 2016. The accident was traced to a leaky gas pipe. As a result, Washington Gas will be replacing 800 gas lines in the area.TRANSCRIPT

The Division of Utility and Railroad Safety assists the SCC's three Commissioners in administering safety programs involving natural gas, and hazardous liquid pipeline facilities, railroads, and underground utility damage prevention.

CORROSION
Soon after the accident, corrosion was discovered on the abandoned copper service line to the accident location. Two other service lines in the area were also found with leaks.

INVESTIGATION• SCC Staff monitored Washington Gas’ response and their work
during the initial make safe activities.
• I interviewed witnesses and homeowners in the immediate area.
• Staff has requested and received numerous records from Washington Gas including but not limited to cathodic protection inspections, leak records, leak repair data, mapping, construction records, work orders, etc.
• Staff has requested records and reports from Prince William
County Fire Marshal and Development Services.
• Our investigation is ongoing and our inspections of Washington Gas and their contractors continue in the area.
