GLASS FIBER FILTERSGlass Fiber Filters are most commonly used filters for particulate sampling. All of the glass fiber filters are binder free and exhibit at least 99.9% efficiency for 0.3 micron dioctyl phthalate (DOP) smoke particles. Not recommended for metals analysis.

Grade E FIBER FILTERSIdeally suited for suspended solids analysis and high volume air monitoring applications. Softening point of glass fiber is 500°C, therefore upper limit temperature in use is 475°C. Low fiber shedding improves quality assurance of test results. High loading capacity. This media meets requirements for standard method 2540D and EPA Method 160.2 for establishing water quality in suspended solids content.

934-AH® FIBER FILTERSIdeally suited for suspended solids analysis. Temperature usage up to 550°C. Low fiber shedding improves quality assurance of test results. High loading capacity. This media is specified in standard method 2540D and EPA Method 160.2 for establishing water quality in suspended solids content. Widely used in air pollution monitoring. Also used in Cell harvesting and Liquid scintillation counting.

ACCESSORIES

IN-STACK THIMBLES AND ACCESSORIES Apex Instruments stocks a variety of Fiber Thimbles for in-stack particulate sampling. The thimbles are seamless, high purity filters and available from a choice of two different types of fibers: Borosilicate glass and quartz. Borosilicate glass fiber thimbles are acid washed to reduce the trace metal content to an absolute minimum. Quartz fiber thimbles are strengthened with alumina and are prefired at 900°C for 2 hours during manufacturing to stabilize the weight prior to use. The gas collection efficiency of the thimbles is 99.9% (0.3 micron DOP). The 25 x 90mm thimbles are specifically manufactured for stack sampling and tapered for ease in loading. Cellulose thimbles are available upon request.

ALUNDUM® THIMBLES (CERAMIC)Alundum® Thimbles are used for in-stack filtration for process engineering studies when a large sample is needed for analyses. These thimbles are made from fused alumina oxide and remain very constant in weight and can be re-used an infinite number of times. There are two different porosity thimbles that can be used in the SFA-300 thimble holder. The medium porosity retain par-ticles 5 micron and larger and the coarse retain particles 20 micron and larger.

PTFE COATED GLASS FIBER FILTERS PTFE Coated Glass Fiber Filters are constructed from borosilicate microfibers and bonded with PTFE. The filters can be folded and handled without loss of fibers. Great for especially low loading rates. Specifically recommended for Method 26 and PM10 sampling.

oriFice FloW meTerS

The OFM-Series Orifice Flow Meters all feature a calibrated, stainless steel critical orifice with two liquid-filled vacuum gauges and stainless steel inline filter. All fittings, including the orifice and filter, are made of stainless steel and include 1/4” tube fitting end connections. These adapters are used with vacuum pumps to provide constant sample flow rates. Orifice sizes range from 4 to 35 providing flow rates from 0.076 Lpm to 6.1 Lpm.

The VUA-Series Low Flow Orifice Adapters feature a calibrated, critical sapphire orifice with liquid filled vacuum gauge, brass fittings and inline filter to adapt to Apex Instruments’ isokinetic source samplers for methods requiring low flow sampling. The adapters are used for VOST and Method 6-type sampling. Adapters include 1/2” male and 1/4” female brass quick connects to attach the isokinetic source sampler to the VOST VU-cords. Three adapters are offered to provide approximately 1/2, 1 and 2 liters per minute flow rates. The VUA-575 is used for Method 7C to provide the required flowrate between 400-500cc/min.

Product description

TPFA-o/ o PFA (Perfluoralkoxy) combines the attributes of PTFE and FEP. The working temperature is 500ºF (260ºC). Color is Clear with a light blue tint. Highest resistance to chemical; pharmeceutical grade; less likely to kink.

PTFE-o/ o PTFE (Tetrafluoroethylne) possess the lowest coefficient of friction of any known solid and is used widely because of its anti-stick properties which allows easy cleaning. PTFE has chemical resistant qualities and is unaffected. Working temperature is 500ºF (260ºC), Color is milky white.

PTFE TubingPTFE Resin is supplied in powdered form, which is extruded into a paste and then finally tubing. It is translucent white in color. The minimum and maximum temperature ranges are <-170°C to 260°C (-275°F to 500°F). Tensile strength is 3200 psi.

Special Purpose HoseThe Apex Instrumens Air hose is constructed of a PVC/Poly-urethane alloy, this hose has a high tensile strength yarn. The core tube has an excellent cut resistance. It also has a highly abrasion-resistant alloy jacket and has good flexibility over a wide temperature range of -20°C to 85°C (0°F to 185°F).

POLYSPRINg HOSEApex Instruments Polyspring hose is constructed of a clear PVC which allows the visual confirmation of product flow. The hose is resistant to chemicals and has a spiral wire reinforcement to prevent kinking or collapsing. The hose diameter will not expand under normal rated working pressures. The unique design of the Apex Modular Pitot Tip reduces amount of water droplets collected in the pitot lines. The lower tube is self-draining while the offset in the upper tube acts as a water trap. The water can be easily cleared tilting tip down or back. Replacement tips for standard Method 5 probes are MPT-6-181, and MPT-6-133 for probes with optional over-sheath. Longer tips are available for in-stack filtration. See Flow, Pressure and Temperature Section of this catalogue for additional pitots plus pipe flanges and inclinometers.

Peristaltic Pumps are useful in a variety of applications. The material to be pumped only comes in contact with the tubing. This is ideal for applications where the product to be moved or pumped should not touch any foreign materials. Also, peristaltic pumps are precision flow rate devices with each revolution of the roller assembly delivering a precise amount of gas. Finally, peristaltic pumps are self-priming and can handle a wide variety of viscosities, from air to gases to heavy slurries. Economically priced fixed-flow peristaltic pumps are available for a wide range of flows. The single head pump PP907-049 comes with a tube kit consisting of four different pump tubes for adjusting the flow from 0.21 to 3.5 ccm per revolution. Different motor speeds are available from 2 to 203 rpm. The pump head and enclosure are made of polypropylene. Dual head model also available PP927-049 which is pre-set for 98 ccm per head.

WinciDrS

Windows-based Cascade Impactor Data Reduction System (WINCIDRS) calculates particle size distribution of stack particulate matter (PM) taken with the Cascade Impactor, as well as particle-sizing cyclones. Developed by stack particle analysis experts, this software reduces the time and chances of error involved with reducing particle sizing data. The PM10/2.5 Software Program (PM-2.5-10C) is extracted from WinCIDRS and simplified for use only with PM10 and PM2.5 cyclones. The calculations are similar to the WinCIDRS, scaled-down specifically for cyclone data reduction. The calculations are still intensive enough to demand computer software.

This includes gas meters, orifices and pitot tubes to help keep all your calibration equipment up-to-date. Our trained staff will utilize the reliable calibration equipment and tools such as NIST Certified Bell Prover wet test meters, electronic flow calibrators and wind tunnels. We offer a certification of calibration when requested.

cuSTom FaBricaTion anD aSSemBlYApex Instruments’ custom-designed facility was built in 2005. The warehouse layout provides a smooth flow for the assembly and fabrication departments. We can design, build and expedite all equipment orders quickly through our in-house engineering, production and welding departments. Apex continues with their steady commitment to quality in compliance testing, by consistently designing and developing reliable source sampling equipment. We folllow guidlines set by U.S. EPA Reference Methods and always keeping the genuine needs of the stack samplers in mind.
