Anderson's book inspired by his years in

Clyde, "Winesburg, Ohio".

Anderson, 13 Sept.1876 came here with his

parents in 1884, stepping into Clyde at the Depot

which stood between two railroads. His book was

unpopular here as he set a new style of writing.

Positive! By JOHN BREWER

The Victorian-replica tower rises from the Municipal

Building which is 40 years old this fall. The Bike Trail is

lined with planters filled by Clyde in Bloom. Three

writers praised the profusion of flowers around the City

and recalled the America In Bloom judges' compliments

last year. One writer said the judges could have said

more. Another referred to the City as 'incredible.'

"It seems the only Clyde 'crisis'

is that Doug Boyer and Council

do not see what's all around."

That comment came last week

after a reader saw the articles

about 'trouble' spots in the City.

One email came from a nearby

town where the writer - like so

many - passes through on 20.

The Driver turned on Vine

Street and spent two hours

driving around. "Clyde blends

history with industry and beau-

tiful large and small homes,"

she noted. She wondered why

Hurd Park "is so empty right in

the middle of town".

Ramping UP in Fremont

FREMONT - Workers are moving apace on a

ramp into the Sandusky County Courthouse,

replacing a lift that was too small for some

wheelchairs and limited access to the county

seat. County Commissioners used a CDBG grant

to finance the project.

"Big city on the Prairie"

The comment was from a

Fremont friend I met while running

errands. We often met in our

favorite store to buy our favorite

gluten-free frozen waffles. It's

been awhile since I"ve been able to

get to Fremont.

"Hey! What's up with your

Council wanting to find another

way to spend tax dollars?

"I've always been impressed how

Clyde has respected its history

while building its industrial base.

"Whirlpool has been there almost 7

decades, but its not a 'company

town'. There are other industries

as well as small businesses," he

added.

"There are so many beautiful

homes of many sizes. Yards are

mowed and many are full of

flowers."

And then he talked about the

fields and farm markets thus

prompting his "Prairie" comment.

Rec Board delays

Rec Center planning

In its regular meeting

August 12, Clyde

Recreation Board and the

Community Center

Committee decided "to

table the Community

Center progression at this

time".

The decision came after

members presented their

planning process to City

Council at its July 15

meeting when Council

voted to have the

Committee work with CM

Paul Fiser to discuss costs

and taxing options.

The original plan would

have put the Center on the

March ballot. Now they will

await C-GS levy results in

November 2019.

The North Softball Diamond was once considered as the best

site for a recreation center for several reasons after the Men's

Softball League left for Green Springs and C-GS built Joe

Wilson Field for softball at Clyde High School. The site

seemed ideal located at Community Park within walking

distance of several neighborhoods, had room to expand

parking, and would return other activities to the park.

Perhaps now the City, the Parks Department, and the Rec

Board can be positive on upgrading the existing 'rec centers'

around the City to make them more fully accessible and 'family

friendly' by the December 31 Federal deadline?
