ABSTRACT

Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406) had personal visions and theories concerning epistemology and

education. He had a role in building societies and defining the role of education in civilization,

thus influencing history. His contributions to educational curriculum predate educational

scholars. The aim of this study is to examine Ibn Khaldūn’s Epistemological Curriculum and

the influence of induction on the curriculum, based on his book ‘Muqaddimah Ibn Khaldūn.’

This study adopts the analytical textual method to analyze the Muqaddimah and deduce the role

played by induction in the formation of his theories.The paper begins by presenting Ibn

Khaldūn’s notion of epistemology. This is followed by a discussion of his classification of

knowledge, his educational pedagogy, and the influence of induction on his epistemological

and educational theories. The research concludes by examining selected excerpts from the

Muqaddimah which assist in determining the role of the inductive method in Ibn Khaldūn’s

epistemology. This research is very new and original in nature contributing in building a bridge

between the philosophy, education, and social sciences.

Congratulations!!! The organisers of AIMC 2017 wish to write and congratulate you for your participation in the just concluded Conference. Itwas an unprecedented conference in many respects. The successes recorded couldn’t have been possible without you. It may interest you to know that we had about 800 presentations in the 5M5S, normal presentations, and posterpresentations. All these were concluded in one day (1st May 2017). Additionally, we had 139 virtual presentations the nextday, i.e., 2nd May 2017. We are happy to inform you that all these presentations were conducted successfully, but not without hitches andchallenges. AIMC 2017 was initially planned to accommodate 600 presentations, but so many walk‐in participants who werenot captured on the presentation schedule (but who had earlier submitted their abstract without payment) organisers to be given the opportunity to make cash payment and participate. Considering most of the walk‐in participantswere from other countries, and have not paid to register earlier due to overseas payment difficulties, the organisers decidedto give them the opportunity to be part of AIMC 2017. This resulted to a number of issues including shortage of kits andcertificates. We are therefore sorry for all inconveniences caused to our highly esteemed participants. Arrangements are on course tosend to you all items you have not received during the conference.
