In 2017, a crushing national debt, skyrocketing infla-tion, and crippling unemployment have frozen the Unit-ed States’ access to global credit. Against the backdrop of economic catastrophe, the US government finds an unexpected savior when China agrees to purchase Florida for $5 trillion. This doesn’t rest well with a radi-cal, violent insurgency holed up in the Everglades who will stop at nothing to oust the Chinese proconsul and his army. How far will this militia go to keep the States united? Hailed as one of the most daring and ingenious plays Off-Broadway last year, Jobsite offers the U.S. regional premiere of Occupation.

It all started when Delores, an unhappy housewife, and George, a shoe salesman, met at Shoe Fantasy and it was love at first shoe-fitting. The only thing standing

in the way was Delores’ doting but half-witted husband, Marvin, who would never agree to a divorce. So there was only one thing left to do – kill Marvin so they can run off together and live a carefree life of passion and

romance in a tropical paradise. The lovers come up with a crazy plan to poison Marvin over dinner. Delores invites George to din-ner and introduces him to Marvin as a new friend. While Marvin checks on dessert, they slip poison into his wine. But things get out of hand when Marvin doesn’t fall for the bait. What was supposed to be a simple foolproof murder turns into a hilarious fiasco when Esperanza, the eccentric Spanish-speaking maid, arrives on the wrong day and she, too, falls for George. Now George and Delores have to get rid of the love-sick Esperanza and carry out their plan to kill Marvin–that is without killing each other first! Their at-tempts get funnier and funnier as the lovers try again and again to finish the job only to have Esperanza and Marvin unknowingly foil their plans each time–resulting in the wacky tale of love, murder, and …shoes!

NOBLE CRUSTStory and Photos by Melissa Wolcott Martino and Al Martino

Noble Pig Pizza with sweet fennel sausage, house cured porchetta, spicy sopressata, peppers, caramelized onions, tomato and fontina.

www.AccentOnTampaBay.com 45

Noble Crust is a refreshing dining spot that, to our utter delight, opened up in our own neighborhood several months ago. The restaurant was conceived by John Mays and TJ Thielbar, former founding part-

ners in the first Bonefish Grill, and former executives at Hops Grill & Brewery. Since we love Bonefish Grill and used to love Hops before it’s untimely Tampa closing, we knew we were in for a taste treat at their newest endeavor.

Noble Crust serves what they refer to as “Seasonal Italian with Southern Soul” food, a combination of traditional Italian cooking with Southern ingredients. Because they are very in tuned to using fresh seasonal ingredients, the menu changes often to offer different palate pleasing dishes.

We had a little chat with Chef Rob Reinsmith, who is responsible for the menu choices. He informed us that everything is house made — all pastas, bread, etc. They partner with Fat Beet Farms in Tampa for their fresh herbs and vegetables.

The Noble Crust menu is very enticing with such fare as a Pimento Cheese Arancini with Missis-sippi comeback sauce (similar to a rémoulade), and rosemary-pepper jelly, which proved to be lovely, crunchy, and sweet with a little touch of heat. On the day we dined, one of the specials was a Vegetable Antipasti with three ramekins of different salads, which afforded us a wonderful

combo of unique tastes. A Sweet Potato Ravioli dish with sage-brown butter and pecans was light and extremely flavorful. We have to rave most about the exceptional Noble Pig Pizza, which is just amazing — bursting with flavor. It is made with sweet fennel sausage, house cured porchetta, spicy sopressata, peppers, caramelized onions, tomato and fontina. For dessert we had a heavenly Milk Chocolate Gelato with pistachios, salted carmel and cacao nibs.

The menu is moderately priced, but has a gourmet quality. The restaurant itself has a sleek urban chic décor with an open kitchen, and seats 160 people with available outside seating. Champagne brunch is now offered on Saturdays and Sundays, with a very attractive menu.

How fortunate we are to be able to walk to one of the best restaurants in the Tampa Bay area. But for you less fortunate, it is definitely worth the drive.

Noble Crust is located at 8300 4th St N, St Petersburg, FL 33702. Days: Tues – Sun. For hours and more information, call (727) 329-6041, or visit www.noble-crust.com/

The Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s All Pro Line-backer and Defensive Captain Lavonte Da-

vid is a humble, hardworking athlete. With a blue collar type of attitude, this NFL star has arrived at the top of the list as one of the best lineback-ers competing in the NFL. His electric style of play, football IQ, and keen instincts make him a feared linebacker. Most would find that while he is a dreaded opponent on the field, Lavonte is nothing short of a genuine, gentle giant off the field. He has a personality that media, fans, and friends gravitate to.

Accent On Tampa Bay learned more about Lavonte in this recent Q&A:

How was your offseason? Do anything in-teresting?

My offseason went really well! Even though it is “off-season,” I still was in the gym four, some-times five times a week. Aside from relaxing and enjoying some time off, in March I went jet skiing with a couple of friends after a really tough work-out – we just decided to meet up and have some fun. I am also really looking forward to a trip I am planning to Jamaica this summer. I have never been, so I am really excited about going there.

The team’s 2015 draft was almost exclu-

sively for offense...what does that say about the Buccaneer defense?

I think it says a lot. Defensively, I think every-one can see that we have come a long way from the beginning of the 2014 season until now. We can feel it – everyone has come into their own and under-stands not only their own role but even the guys’ next to them. Coach has a lot of confidence in us, and he believes we can get the job done which in return gives us even more confidence.

How has the team been looking in mini camp? Any standouts?

The team looks good! All the guys are working re-

ally hard and getting after it to leave no stone un-turned. There are a lot of things to look forward to going into training camp and to me, all of our addi-tions this off season have stood out. Once you hear that these guys will be joining the organization, you can’t wait to see what they can do on the field and in our system. When you are finally able to see the guys in action who you might not be as familiar with, it really grabs your attention when they are out there catching on to things quickly. I have been really im-pressed with what they are bringing to the field and locker room.

Bucs BitsLavonte DavidFeared All Pro Linebacker is really A Gentle Giant

www.AccentOnTampaBay.com 51

You are going into your fourth year...do you consider yourself more of a veteran, or do you see yourself as still learning?

I’m still on that learning curve; I’m not a veteran just yet. My consistent goal from year to year is to al-ways improve on the previous. I am constantly trying to learn more – whether that be by studying my op-ponents, our system, or even my own play, the more I am learning, the more I can improve and the faster I can help my team.

Going back to Nebraska days...you were there

when the team switched from Big 12 to the Big 10 conference. Which conference was more your style of football?

The Big 12 was a great, competitive conference but for me as a linebacker, I’d say the Big 10 was more my style of play. The Big 10 has more of a pro-style feel and look to it where the run game is promi-nent. When we played in the Big 12, I was the only linebacker on the field since teams would spread their offense, relying heavily on their pass game. When we made the switch to the Big 10, I was one

of three backers. What are your top charities for 2015?I currently don’t have my own foundation or

charity but I do love to give back whenever I can. At every Buccaneers home game, I sponsor a sec-tion called Lavonte’s Legends. I invite 10 members of a local non-profit organization to attend as my guests. Each person receives a ticket to the one of the first two rows in the end zone, a t-shirt and meal vouchers. It is a way to give back to someone who might not always have a chance to come out to a professional football game. I also want to start getting into back to school initiatives. I definitely learned at a young age how important my educa-tion was and the what a big part it will play in my life. This year I am thinking about doing a Back to School drive.

What’s your prediction for the Bucs’ record

in 2015?My prediction is that the win lost ratio will be way

better than the previous 2 seasons - Ha ha!

Renaissance Seaworld“Live Life to Discover”

Story and photos by Melissa and al MartinoL“Live Life to Discover” is the Renaissance Hotel group’s slogan, which seems fitting, as every hotel in the group is different. You can be pleasantly surprised by booking all Renaissance as you travel and not having any déjà vu moments.

We had the occasion to visit the beautifully renovated (to the tune of $50M and five years) Renaissance SeaWorld Resort when in Orlando, and although it takes it’s theme from SeaWorld (which is directly across the road) it is not at all “theme-parky.” This Renaissance property is sophisticated urban chic. The only real nod to SeaWorld is a large orca whale mural (with no text on it), and some lovely waterfall features. That, and an aquarium theme by the center bar. Renaissance creates a vibe to fit in with whatever locale they are in.

The Renaissance SeaWorld resort has 781 guestrooms and 65 suites, which surround a huge atrium that is sunny by day, and romantically lit by night. A lot of the hotel’s action takes place in the atrium, with the Mist Sushi & Spirits Bar taking center stage. Comfortable conversational chairs dot the floor for chatting or reading, and sections can be set aside for parties and events. This resort is an event planners dream as there are so many variables both outside and inside for large and small groups. The Renaissance has an app available to meeting planners to be in touch with every department at the hotel at the touch of a finger.

OOur very spacious king junior suite was plush and tastefully decorated with sofas and chairs in warm tones, and a most comfortable bed. A large flat screen TV dominated one wall, and was tuned to gorgeous underwater sea life film accompanied by soothing music when we arrived. There was even a work desk, which, on this trip, did not tempt us at all. Relaxation was our theme.

Although Orlando has so many restaurants to choose from, there is no need to travel past the resort’s front door, as they have many varied restaurants right on property. From the Palms Bar & Grill by the pool, to the Tradewinds in the atrium (open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to the Boardwalk, which a trendy sports bar. Food is locally sourced, even most of the fish is from Florida. All the restaurants offer gluten free menus for those that desire it. Best of all is the R Kitchen, a private dining experience set up in advance for smaller groups, that is utterly delightful. We had the privilege of enjoying this concierge-level experience on our trip. Sous Chef Michael Cutter created a special dinner for us in the intimate counter-style seating facing his gleaming stainless steel open kitchen. He pulled out all the stops with preparing our favorite foods all while our favorite music was piped in. Pampered? You betcha! The R Kitchen is unique to the Renaissance SeaWorld property, and is also used for interactive cooking classes.

Renaissance SeaWorld has a large property, beautifully landscaped with walkways through lush vegetation. You won’t be able to get the kids away from The R-Aqua Zone water park with so many fun water games.

IIf you’ve had an exhausting day and are “parked out”, head over to the Lotus Spa to relax and unwind. They have 8 treatment rooms and all the services you would expect of the Renaissance brand.

Most resorts are charging a resort fee these days to cover your amenity expenses, but the Renaissance SeaWorld’s fee also includes travel to all the major theme parks, not just SeaWorld. The International Drive Trolley (I-Ride Trolley) also comes by the hotel and can take you from one end of International Drive to the other for a small fee.

This lovely resort with everything you could want or need also comes with a super friendly and accommodating staff. Your destination doesn’t have to be SeaWorld to stay in this resort. It’s a Renaissance Resort. That’s all it needs to be.

Whether guests are seeking cool thrills on attractions, vis-iting their favorite “Frozen” pals at Disney’s Hol-lywood Studios, shopping at Downtown Disney or splashing around at Disney’s Water Parks – there are endless ways to have a ‘cool’ time.

The fun heats up daily at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guest favorites Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf are welcomed to Hollywoodland twice each day as they take part in the Frozen Royal Welcome, a festive cavalcade throughout Disney’s Hollywood Stu-dios, accompanied by the Royal Arendelle Flag Corps and a flurry of skaters, skiers and ice cutters.

During the cavalcade, Anna leads the procession in an elaborate horse-drawn sleigh, with Elsa gliding by on a stunning, ice palace float. The entire procession pauses twice along the route in tribute to these visitors from Arendelle, as guests in Hollywoodland are invited to join in singing “Let It Go!”

The popular show, For the First Time in Forever: A “Frozen” Sing-Along Celebration, welcomes guests in the beautiful Hyperion Theater, located right in the heart of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Royal Histo-rians of Arendelle host this fun and comedic retelling of the unique story of their kingdom, filled with delightful, sing-along moments from “Frozen,” plus all-new in-the-

ater effects and special appearances by Anna, Elsa and Krist-

off. Outside of the theater, there is a new merchandise location filled with all-things “Frozen”.

Fun centers around the Event Stage throughout the day, with Olaf’s Summer Cool Down — where Olaf keeps things cool several times each day. Hav-ing always dreamed of being in “snow business,” Olaf is joined by some of his summery friends to sing his famed number, “In Summer,” inviting the audience to join in. Then, Olaf sends a flurry from his personal snow cloud out over the audience in an icy blast.

Twice each hour beginning at 10 a.m. daily, guests also can view a showing of the new animated short, “Frozen Fever,” which debuted in theaters with Dis-ney’s live-action “Cinderella,” and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film inside the ABC Sound Studio.

Then once the sun goes down, DJ Chill and some favorite Disney Characters take to the stage to host the “Coolest Summer Ever” Dance Party.

As the night comes to a close, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf come together at the Event Stage for a grand finale to the day’s festivities, kicking off an awe-inspir-ing “Frozen” Fireworks display set to the music of “Fro-zen” and, of course, a flurry of snow!

on a warm September 8 in the year 1565, 800 Spaniards gathered on the shores of a Florida saltmarsh at the site of a large Native american village known as Seloy. They were soldiers, sailors and civilians.

They waited in anticipation until at last, Captain General don Pedro Menéndez de aviles stepped ashore from his longboat to a flourish of trumpets and drums. Kneeling and kissing the cross carried by Father Lopez, Menéndez and his officers swore allegiance to God and King and then proclaimed this place where they stood would henceforth be known as St. augustine.

The Spaniards who created the City of St. Augustine 450 years ago surely had no idea their fledgling town would someday become one of the nation’s premier vacation destinations. Today, St. augustine works to preserve its past while striving to create a present and future that are vibrant, new and exciting.

Celebrate 450! is a five-day, community-focused event that honors St. Augustine’s 450th Anniversary. This FREE event features a street and music festival, fireworks show, commemorative re-enactment, procession, Mass, cake cutting ceremony and many other events that honor St. augustine’s history. The street and music festival will feature five stages throughout downtown St. Augustine.

dear Mark: When playing craps, i will occasionally toss in a bet for the dealers. Normally, it is a two-way “yo,” or a horn bet if i am making the same. What are you thoughts on these two bets for the dealer, or is there another bet that dealers ap-preciate even more? Chase d.

All dealers welcome ANY wager made on their behalf, but they definite-ly prefer bets made by the player that have a low house edge, such as the Pass, Come, Don’t Pass, Don’t Come and Placing the 6 or 8. Wagers made on a “Yo” (“Yo” is craps jargon for an 11) or a Horn bet means that a signifi-cant percentage of your gratuity ends up going to the casino, and not to them.

Let’s examine both of your “tip” wa-gers.

The “Yo 11” bet is one of the most popular bets on a crap game. As its name implies, an “eleven” must roll in order for this wager to be a winner. This bet is good for only one roll. If it wins, dealers will pay you, and themselves, at 15-1 odds and leave the original bet(s) on the table.

You make this bet by tossing two low-value chips on the table, then state, “two-way Yo,” and a dealer will

www.markpilarski.com/

place two Yo bets, one for you and one for the crew. Despite the payout odds on this bet being 15-1, the true odds are 17-1. This means that the house has an 11.11% advantage on this wa-ger.

A “horn,” or “craps-eleven” bet as it is typically called, is a one-roll wager that on the next roll of the dice their sum will be 2, 3, 11, or 12. If they total anything different (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10), you lose. If 3 or 11 appears, you are paid 15:1. If 2 or 12 rolls, the pay-off is 30:1.

Horn bets are made in even dol-lar units, divisible by four, with equal amounts bet on each of the four out-comes. Horn bets are resolved as though four possible winners had been bet individually. Although the payoffs can vary between casinos, the house edge on the “horn” bet is more than 12%.

Do I recommend either of your two wagers? NO. The crap table offers two kinds of one-roll bets—bad and ugly. Your two proposition bets seemingly have lofty payoffs, but the house edge is far too high for you and the dealers to waste your hard-earned money on.

Undeniably, Chase, for the deal-ers any bet is better than no bet at all. Unfortunately, both of yours are far cries from some of the better bets on the table, like a 1.36% Pass line bet. Putting the crew on the line with you along with some booties (odds) behind a Pass line bet will get you the acco-lades and benefits of a member of the ruling class of the crap table.

This echibit extends from the late eighteenth century to an example

from the twenty-first. Ukiyo-e, or “images of the Floating World,” depict hedonistic pleasures in ancient Japan—the world of geishas, kabuki actors, and sumo wres-tlers. Woodblock prints of the eighteenth to nineteenth centuries by such celebrated artists as Utamaro, Hoku-sai, Hiroshige, and Yoshitoshi set the stage. Of special note is a portfolio, The Modern Japanese Print (1962), compiled by the legendary writer James Michener, who lived in Asia for many years. It contains 10 prints along with text by Mr. Michener, who championed contem-porary Japanese works, as well as twentieth-century American art. This exhibition takes visitors on an artis-tic and cultural journey through the centuries, spotlights

individual works of extraordinary merit, and reveals one of the strengths of the MFA collection.

tAMPA MUSEUM OF Artthe American Spirit: Painting and Sculpture from the Santa Barbara

Museum of Art - June 13 - Sept 6www.tampamuseum.org

Between the 1830s and the end of the First World War, American art came into its own. From the majestic Hudson River School paintings of Thomas Cole, John Kensett, and Albert Bierstadt to the gritty urban real-ism of Robert Henri and John Sloan, this presentation draws on the rich holdings of American paintings and sculptures in the collection of the Santa Barbara Muse-um of Art. This selection of more than 50 paintings and eight sculptures highlights the maturation of a distinctly American idiom, one informed by international currents and engaged with capturing the fluxes of modern life. Masterpieces of landscape, genre, still-life, and portrai-ture, punctuated by a selection of sculptures, trace an evolution in style from an art driven by the mandates of westward expansion to one animated by experimen-tation. In both idealized and naturalistically rendered landscapes, in scenes of everyday life, or meticulously detailed images of everyday objects, the presentation also narrates an important chapter in American cultural history that witnessed the Civil War and its aftermath, the expansion of national boundaries and the closing of the western frontier, and the transformations wrought by the emergence of new technologies at the dawn of the 20th century.

Nearly everyone remembers sleeping under a quilt made by their mother or grandmother, and many of those quilts were made from time-honored traditional quilt designs. Today’s quiltmakers take those designs as departure points for works that are often inspired by nature, personal or world events. Quilt National: 2013 is an exhibit of 22 selected works from as close as Vir-ginia and as far away as Australia. These are not your grandmother’s quilts. Many of the works hold fast to the traditional methods of piecing and patching. At the same time, however, these artists are intrigued by the challenge of expanding the boundaries of traditional quilt making by utilizing the newest materials and tech-nologies.

Designs from the minds of the two geniuses are brought to life in this exhibit.

The new exhibit features works and reproductions, includ-

The exhibit shows how these two great artists shared an ambition to use the tools of art to explore the whole of the human experience, including math, anatomy, motion devices, religion, and visual perspective. They both imagined fantastical devices and inventions, some of which became reality, while others remained sealed in sketches and manuscripts. Visi-tors explore thematic groupings that dem-onstrate the range of shared themes, inter-ests, and ongoing dia-logue between the two across the centuries.

I have been advising people about at yard sales for decades. Here are my top tips for those of you who love yard

sales—as buyers and as sellers. Many of us have spent a weekend driv-

ing around your favorite neighborhoods to shop on other people’s lawns. Typically you end up buying a few things that you really don’t need but you just can’t leave on a neigh-bor’s lawn without a watering can, vintage poster, and bunch of napkins. You spend $17 and call it a day.

As a well-seasoned Ph.D. art, antiques, and collect-ibles appraiser, there are many things that people don’t know about yard sales. The first thing that most people don’t know about yard sales is that it is big business. You think it is just small time stuff with neighbors clean-ing out the basement of old junk, but in reality, yard sales are the source of objects that command six figure price tags in other markets… markets far away from the front yard. That’s right, the high priced auction and internet markets for art, antiques, and collectibles use yard sales as a major source for inventory. And, many of the major auction houses and smaller estate auc-tion houses regularly send out people known as pickers to get some of their auction inventory from yard sales. These people are sent to neighborhoods where the homes have reached the 50 year mark assuming that their original owners are ready to move on to assisted living facilities or downsized residences.

Most unknowing yard sale hosts just think that you are just offering your items to naïve shoppers and fel-low neighbors, well, be warned. You are competing with the pros out there. These buyers know what you’ve got, what it is really worth, where to sell it for top dollar, and they are not in the game to tell you that you just made a big mistake putting out that Eastlake table or vintage Guerlain perfume bottle on the front lawn. And your price is all wrong too! These guys are going to get you down on the asking price and take away something very valuable that was once in your house and was once a treasured family heirloom. Know what you’ve got before you schlep it out to the front lawn. At my mo-bile website www.DrLoriV.com, you can send a photo

of an object from a yard sale and I will tell you its value be-fore you buy it. This is how technology will help you cash in.

Here is an ex-ample that will have you thinking twice before you have that yard sale. Recently, a $425,000 floral still life painting that now hangs in the

Houston Art Museum was originally sold at a Califor-nia yard sale for $18. Yep, the original owner’s family didn’t know that they had a priceless piece of fine art, so they unknowingly sold it at a yard sale for $20. The picker working for the auction house got them down to $18 and the auction house later sold it to the Texas museum for a whopping $425,000. That could happen to you. Find out first.

TiPS FoR BuyeRSOk, so you get my point but you aren’t hosting a yard

sale. You want to know about buying at yard sales. Here are my tips for buyers.

Bring cash as it will help your negotiating power.Establish a budget and stick to it.Be polite but always negotiate. This isn’t friendship,

this is business. Celebrity items bring big value. If it is in poor condition, leave it on the lawn.If there is a box of old jewelry that looks like junk,

there is probably something overlooked in that box like a piece of 14k gold or sterling silver.

Bring a magnifying glass, lupe, or at least your read-ing glasses.

Big Cat Rescue is the largest ac-

credited sanctuary in the world dedi-cated entirely to abused and abandoned big cats. It is home to over 100 lions, tigers, bobcats, cougars and other spe-cies most of whom have been abandoned, abused, orphaned, saved from being turned into fur coats, or retired from performing acts.

The sanctuary began rescuing exotic cats in 1992. BCR has 14 species of cats, many of whom are threat-ened, endangered or extinct now in the wild. Their dual mission is to provide the best home they can for the cats in their care and educate the public about the plight of these majestic animals, both in captivity and in the wild, to end abuse and avoid extinction.

BCR has built enclosures in a natural habitat with foliage and shelter on 55 acres in the Citrus Park area of north Tampa. They provide the best nutritional and medical care possible, and have conditioning and en-richment programs to provide the cats physical and psychological well being. The sanctuary is primarily supported by donation.
